Location description from owner

The England region

Westward Ho! is the only place in the country to be named after a novel and to have an exclamation mark after it's name. The novel was written by Charles Kingsley and followed the adventures of Elizabethan seafarers. The village of Westward Ho! is fronted by an amazing 2 mile long sandy beach and has been a family holiday destination since the Victorian times.Ideally located to see some of the most spectacular coastal areas in Devon - Clovelly, Hartland, Croyde Bay and Illfracombe to name but a few. The town of Barnstaple is 9 miles away and Bideford, just down the road. The little fishing village of Appledore is a couple of miles away with it's quaint little streets and fishermen's cottages. The Cornish coast is about 25 miles away - Bude being the nearest large Cornish holiday town.

Westward Ho

Northam Burrows is just opposite the end of the road and the famous Links Golf Club (Royal North Devon Golf Course I'm informed is it's correct name!) a few yards away. The visitors centre gives information on the area's history and walks and talks are available. The pebble ridge separates the beach from the Burrows and in the summer the traditional Pot Walloping festival takes place there! Fabulous coastal walks along the cliffs at Westward Ho and the views are terrific. There is horse riding nearby and surfing is of course one of the most popular activities in this area.

“cosy but needs updating in some areas”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2013

The conservatory couldn't be used in the evening because there was inadequate reading lights. The glare from the lights on the wall from the neighbouring building was uncomfortable and left unnessary on all night. When you opened the oven door or when cooking the heat sensor kept going off ,very painful to your ears. The path/steps to the bungalow from the car parking area were loose, cracked and uneven. Also if you don't like the odour of dogs(as the resident dog items were left out)We used to have a dog and found this upsetting. It just needed updating and is suited for two adults only.It was a good 10-15 mins walk to the beach,so the location was ok.However we were left to discover the local walks etc as there were no location maps/ info in the bungalow.

“Westward Ho - Little Haven - Lovely!”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2012

Such a nice place to stay. the cottage was clean and had a lovely conservatory. very well located, a 10 min walk to the beach/shops. cute little shops. lovely fish and chip shop. The owners called to ensure we had settled in well. Would be lovely in the summer. some lovely places surrounding Westward ho also which are worth a visit. We would definately return.
