“Amazing location, beautiful views, proper beach holiday”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2016

First of all I would like to thank the owner for letting us stay in this amazing holiday home. We could not have been happier here for the week. The location attracted us in an instant to book this and we were not disappointed. If you want to be 1 minute walk from the beach, and wake up to a stunning sea view every day, this is the place to stay. This chalet style bungalow is all on one floor, you have a very large living room/dining room with big patio doors overlooking the beach and sea. This room has been decorated recently and gives the impression of a seaside chalet inside, very nice. There is also one large double bedroom also facing the sea, again with patio doors, Both these rooms lead onto a small veranda which you can sit on the bench and just watch the sea, or watch the sun go down over the cliffs to the West. Amazing. There is a good size family bathroom. The shower is plenty powerful enough. There is also a bath. There is a second separate toilet. There is an adequately sized twin room. All beds are comfy and there is plenty of wardrobe space in both rooms. The kitchen is a good size. Well equipped to cook a good meal. We cooked here a lot because we enjoyed being in this house and eating with a perfect sea view!! There is also a dishwasher and a washing machine. There is a back garden which is also a good enough size. It has a picnic table which is placed where you can just see the sea, and also has a comfy swing seat. The garden was big enough for my children to happily play bat and ball. You can also access the front of the property to the veranda from the back garden. There are 36 steps up to the house, so i would not recommend this property if you are slightly immobile. This did not put us off, it was a good work out everyday!!! We were lucky whilst we were here that the annual torch light procession was on Sunday night, which also has a bonfire on the car park below the house and finishes with a lovely firework display on the beach, we were able to sit on the veranda and watch the fireworks. We also took our dog, and due to the wooden floors in the property it was easy to hoover dog hair up every day and maintain the cleanliness of the property. We were extremely lucky with the weather and had really sunny and warm week, West Bay is a lovely seaside town if you just want to enjoy relaxing on the beach, walks along the stunning cliffs and finding nice places to eat and drink. It is a totally unspoilt/untacky seaside town. I cannot recommend this property enough. We will return. And if you are Broadchurch fans this property is the white chalet on the cliff that you see a lot!!!! Cannot wait to see it in the next series.

“Views to die for....”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2016

If you google West Bay, the white house you see on the views over West Bay Cliffs, is this house. It's a unique building probably of some years that has been loved and characterised by the current owners. On booking I saw some reviews that said it's tired - sure it has been here for a while, but it's clean, cared for and has been modernised in part and probably still in progress. The house is in good order, everything works, the shower gushes hot water, the kitchen works, utensils are good, furnishing is functional and clean, beds are comfy enough - nothing to complain about unless you are a grumbler. Then you add the location and views and you will struggle to find a more incredible view and setting. West Bay is a small village, probably of fishing origins, with a modern pier, a scattering of fish and chip painted sheds on the harbor edge and some small pubs/restaurants. If you like hill walking and coastal views this is the place for you. I've given 5 stars as I think this place has some qualities that are rare to find and I will come back again and again. Never met the owners but can't help but feel they love, continue to care for and nuture it.

“Beautiful location”

Reviewed 6 May 2012

We stayed at The Steps for a week with our two dogs in April and had a fabulous time even though the weather was pretty poor. The view from the house is stunning, the house itself is fairly basic but had everything we needed and was clean and warm. West Bay is a lovely place and the West Bay Hotel is great for food. Booked again for Sept hoping the weather might be a little kinder! The house has 36 steps up to it but you soon get used to it.

“Very pleasant retreat”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2012

We stayed in at "The Steps" for the week before Easter and thouroughly enjoyed the location. West Bay and the surrounding coastal area (Weymouth to Lyme Regis) is very quiet during this period which makes the experience even more fun. The cottage is well maintained with all the gadgets and untensils you can think of. The high situation is great and surprisingly private considering the constant walking traffic up and down the cliff path just 30 yards away. Lovely overview of West Bay beach and harbour (the beach & the cliff mentioned above is where the 1970's sitcom titles for "The fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" was filmed). Only reason did not rate as excellent is that the beach-side patio grass area had an old angle iron fence post protruding from the bank at ground level which my 10 year old discovered with his left buttock. Only minor injury luckily and I have informed owner that it must be removed or at least angle ground well below ground level as a matter of urgency which he has assured me will be done. Next occupants were left a note and I marked the post for the time being so don't be put off. Just be aware. Overall - a lovely visit.
