The Valais region
Situated on the slopes above Sion, Veysonnaz is a mountain village typical of the Valais canton. Enjoying stunning panoramic views over the Rhône valley and Bernese Alps, Veysonnaz makes for an unforgettable place to vacation. The small resort of Veysonnaz is located at around 1,233m above sea level and 13 kilometres from Sion, the capital of the canton of Valais. Beneath Veysonnaz lies the broad Rhône valley and the northern chain of the Valais Alps with the wide glaciers of the Plaine Morte. To the west of Veysonnaz, lies the French-speaking district of Martigny.
Veysonnaz isn't the biggest resort in the 4 Vallées but it is one of the most attractive. Unlike Verbier, with its boisterous nightlife, Veysonnaz is great for a quiet winter sports vacation. The village has successfully retained its traditional character while developing excellent summer and winter vacation facilities.
As soon as the snow comes, Veysonnaz becomes a winter sports paradise. World Cup races take place on the "Piste de l'Ours" above Veysonnaz. The huge "Four Valleys" skiing area stretches from Veysonnaz and the adjacent Les Collons / Thyon 2000, taking in Nendaz and Mont Fort (3330m), and extending as far as Verbier and La Tzoumaz, opening up no fewer than 410km of slopes and 95 lifts for skiers of all abilities. Naturally, there are winter sports schools for children and adults, as well as lots of alternative winter activities for non-skiers such as snowshoeing, tobogganing to snow tubing. The ski school in Veysonnaz is great for learners of all ages, and the Swiss Snow Kids Village is a fantastic place for your little ones to learn. For freestyle antics the 1936 Neypark in La Choux is one of the best snow parks in the area, and renowned for its skate-style pyramid.
There are approximately 300km of footpath in the area around Veysonnaz, and there are also opportunities for more challenging tours in the high mountains. The walks take you through unspoilt nature: in Veysonnaz, the flora and fauna and grazed pastureland are all protected. The "Bisse de Vex", a traditional open irrigation channel ("Suone") typical of the Valais and dating from the 15th century, has been extensively restored for 12km of its length and now the water is flowing again. These "Suonen" give some idea of the concerns local people had about water, and nowadays provide pleasant walks with no great differences in altitude, but mostly with fantastic views. For families with children aged between 4 and 8, in the peak summer season there is a children's entertainment programme provided every day in the "Bears' Club". Older children can meet up in the "Sun + Fun Club" where they can enjoy activities such as beach volley, football, tennis, wall climbing, beach parties, archery, mountain bike tours, cable car tours and guided walks.

"Home from Home"
The apartment is situated up the mountain virtually on the slope. The views are amazing, and everything you could possibly need is in the apartment. We stayed in each night and relaxed, but the village is only 5 minutes away, [ snow chains would be required after snow fall - we were lucky didn't need them ]. We used the lift at MEYENS DE L'OURS as we found it easier to park, the apartment access road is between this lift and the village lift. We drove so we shopped in France stocking up for the week, the fridge in the apartment is amply big enough to do this, we definitely saved on food and alcohol. Food up the mountain was good, we probably spent £10 each and ate well. Our son used the ski school and it was excellent, meeting at the TI PI a short ski or walk down from the gondolas. I didn't ski on one day and found plenty of easy walking up the mountain on the edges of the slope without snow blades. We had a brilliant holiday and would recommend to anyone. the reason I have not given 5 stars is due to the number of t bars and button lifts at the resort, I am not a lover of them, lazy I guess and the apartment was not easy to find a map would of been helpful especially if arriving in the dark, we knew where the apartment was from the photos on the website but there are a few roads in that area servicing other buildings, it may be that the owner thought VIP would provide that and VIP thought the owner had? That said the resort suited our purpose this year to get our son on skis which was a great success and we couldn't of stayed in a better apartment.
