Location description from owner

The England region

The Brambles Cottage is situated in West Dorset close to the seaside town of Weymouth, a region full of things to do with a beautiful array of beaches, the Jurassic Coastline (World Heritage status) and miles of unspoilt countryside to enjoy. Dorset has some excellent family attractions such as Monkey World, the Tank Museum, Abbotsbury Gardens and Swannery, the Fleet Air Arm Museum and some stunning country houses such as Athlehampton House and Minterne House, famous for its gardens.
Some of the landscape may well look familiar as West Bay area was the setting for the BAFTA winning crime series Broadchurch. Far From the Madding Crowd starring Carey Mulligan is shortly due to be released and some of the scenes were filmed on our farm overlooking Chesil Beach.

Upwey

There is plenty to do in the local area. The cottage is surrounded by open farmland which you are able to roam on - ideal if you bring a four legged friend- and the Coastal Footpath literally runs through our farm, Weymouth is a couple of miles to the east of us and has a lovely sandy beach with clean shallow water, ideal for little ones. To the west you find the village of Abbotsbury, famous for its historic Swannery and sub-tropical gardens. During Easter time you can visit the Swannery and watch the birds hatching! A little further on is Westbay with its dramatic Jurassic cliffs which featured heavily in the crime series Broadchurch. Lyme Regis is worth a visit and you are almost guaranteed to find a fossil.
We are spoilt for good pubs in the area and some excellent local fish restaurants.

“Cosy cottage with a blazing log fire.”

Reviewed 25 Feb 2016

We rented The Brambles over February half term and enjoyed its ambience greatly, especially the log fire. It's perfect for a couple. Open plan, nicely furnished and very peacefully situated. Abbotsbury is only four miles away on a scenically stunning route with the sea on one side and the Dorset Hills on the other. there's lots to do in the area and lots of great walks from the house.
