Further details indoors

La Nique is a venerable old house which appears in the Napoleonic maps, the oldest parts of which are believed to be 400 years old. It has been restored to maintain the old oak beams and, in parts, the wattle and daub walls (suitably treated!), and has a great deal of character. It has, though, been restored and modernised to the highest standard, and is now both a comfortable and charming house in which to spend a holiday. The accommodation comprises a fully equipped kitchen (gas cooker, fridge, dish washer, full range of cooking equipment including a microwave oven) living area with a large and glorious cast iron traditional wood stove, which gives off incredible heat, and a dining area with a large pine table, benches and traditional chairs

Further details outdoors

If the house is comfortable and charming inside, it is glorious out. Neither the garden nor the fields round about are enclosed, and there is a great feeling of openness and freedom. It really is very beautiful. The front veranda has a pub style picnic table, screened against the midday sun by a curtain of Virginia creeper. On one side of the house there is a patio which leads to the very private and large (40 foot) swimming pool, with ample poolside furniture (sun loungers, deck chairs and a poolside table which seats 12, with chairs to match). There is also a barbecue on the patio, just outside the patio which can be used as an extension of the kitchen. On the other side is another patio which has a fountain, and which gets the early morning sun and is lovely for breakfasts; this also provides welcome shade during the afternoon of a hot and sunny day.For much of the year the veranda, patios and poolside must be counted as part of the living area. Except in the very worst weather we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner outside, amid wonderful views and birdsong.

“A taste of French heaven”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2013

La Nique was perfect in every sense of the word. We were able to find the location with ease from Bordeaux airport. Once we arrived at La Nique we were met by well-manicured grounds and a clean and welcoming house. The directions (fire place, kitchen, etc.) were clear and allowed us to settle in quickly. As the pool had heating we were able to swim regularly throughout our stay. After a couple of grueling tennis matches on the well-looked after court the pool was exactly what we needed. The quiet lane allowed us to take leisurely and safe strolls with our children to the church down the road. The supermarket was relatively close to the house and driving directions were perfect The whole trip was an absolute joy. Sitting out back eating breakfast on the patio, or having a picnic on a blanket on the grass. We had a great time and cannot wait to go back!

“Perfect holiday retreat”

Reviewed 4 Dec 2012

Have stayed here on 3 occassions and couldn't recommend it enough. The property is beautiful, set deep in the beautiful french countryside it is the ideal setting for a relaxing break. The house offers the perfect base if you want to explore the surrounding countryside, take a trip to the vineyards or just sit by the pool and relax. Definitely plan to go back.

“Fantastic for couples, families or groups!”

Reviewed 3 Dec 2012

This is not the first time I have stayed at La Nique and it certianly won't be the last. It is a drive away from anywhere so driving and some knowledge of maps is essential but once you get there you will be in relaxation heaven. beautiful pool, tennis court (for those who want to play) and a croquet set for early evening fun are just some of the things to do. I went with a big group of friends this time around and had a brilliant time. After a big shop at the supermarket (stocked up on v cheap and tasty wine plus lovely fresh food) we had barbecues outside but they have all the facilities in the kitchen to do some home cooking too. So much land around and wonderful views of the countryside... I could go again and again.

“Great little getaway cottage”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2012

Beautiful property with loads of character in the French countryside. If you're looking for a getaway with friends for a chilled few days then this is it - plenty of games and pool/tennis court to keep you all amused and within a convenient distance to get your daily dose of French baguettes/cheese/pate/wine. BBQ area area and outdoor seating was perfect and luckily the weather was great. Spent a lovely 5 days here with a group of seven and would definitely go back.

“La Nique's a great place for a family holiday!”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2012

We found La Nique a wonderful place for a peaceful family holiday. The house is roomy and comfortable; the kitchen extremely well provided for and efficient; the situation secluded, though within easy striking distance of shops. The beautiful and spacious swimming pool and the well maintained tennis court provide plenty of opportunities for activities suitable for all ages.

“Best holiday ever.”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2012

La Nique is in a stunning and private location, wooded on one side with rolling countryside on the other three. The house is well equipped and the extensive grounds have a swimming pool and a tennis court. It is on a rise and not overlooked. We had a delightful time exploring the area which is quite unspoiled. A car is essential. A perfect place for a family holiday or for staying with friends. We shall be back for sure.

“Delightful place in wonderful setting”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2012

If you like a calm relaxing holiday in a lovely environment, this is the place. It's a great setting in the heart of countryside, a short drive to the nearest village. We loved the swimming pool which we used every day. There are two terraces so it is possible to sit in the sun morning and evening. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked with pans and utensils (not always the case in rented properties) and inside the rooms are comfortable and spacious. There is plenty of room for family and friends. It has the feel of a family home. There is a tennis court too for the more sporty. We will definitely return.
