Just for Two. Spacious beautiful Cottage with Pool near Duras
Ideal retreat

The cottage is in the country only a short drive to Duras with its beautiful chateau, close to restaurants and places of interest, for the wine lover plenty of local producers and for chocoholics the Maison Guinguet is well worth a visit. The cottage is spacious, comfortable and clean. Outside is a gas barbecue table and chairs and round at the back is the swimming pool and sun loungers. To us the best part are the hosts Yvonne and Paul, who are friendly, welcoming and very helpful. For us the perfect place to relax or if you want to explore the region a great base. We will be returning soon.see more
The Prunerie
The perfect Gite

What a gem we found when we got in touch with David and Tina to stay at their Gite - peace quite, stunning scenery, exceptionally well equipped and comfortable Gite. Close to Duras where there are shops, restaurants and bars not to mention the Chateaux. Would definitely recommend this Gite to anyone.see more
The Grange - a 3-bed/bath house with heated pool
Home from Home

I would start by agreeing with everything that has been said in the earlier review, and in terms of description of the Gite I cannot add anything further other than to say it suited us perfectly with a young family. But would equally suit 2/3 couples. We stayed at the property for 5 weeks, the whole of September and the first week of October. We didn't want to come home. We had everything we needed and it was a veritable Home from Home. Ali the owner was very friendly and was a font of knowledge about the area, she was available if you needed anything but otherwise she did not impose. Both our girls enjoyed the company of Charlie the dog, who is very good with children, but if you are not a dog lover, then the owner would ensure that Charlie stayed away.. We travelled with our two daughters who were 2 and half and 7 months who both enjoyed their stay with the large gardens and the swimming pools. The surrounding area is wonderful and there are a great number of vineyards where you can taste the wine within a very quick drive away, many only a few minutes drive away. The supermarkets are about 20 minutes away by car and the large supermarket at St Foy Le Grande, called Le Clair. I would struggle to name something they didn't sell, however the local shop in Loubes Bernac stocks most provisions you would need, especially lovely ice cream and fresh croissants and bread. Nadine the owner also serves up lovely coffees which we unfortunately only discovered in our last week. We went to all the local markets and the local towns, Eymet and Issigieac were our favourites. Bergerac is worth a visit, it has a lovely old quarter which has some lovely buildings. We also enjoyed the boat ride down the river. The surrounding countryside is lovely with all the vines and the fields of sunflowers. They were harvesting the grapes whilst we were there which was fascinating to see. We had a trip out to the Aquarium the other side of Bergerac which the girls enjoyed especially feeding the coy carp. St Emilion was also well worth a visit and not as expensive as we thought it would be. We intend to go back next year, perhaps this time at the beginning of the season, so we can see how the countryside views have changed. We travelled from the North West of England to Portsmouth and caught the overnight ferry to St Malo, which I would recommend with young children. We stayed overnight on the way down near La Rochelle so we could take things easy and stop a few times. However on the way back we did it in a day, and it was also okay, although probably would be quicker if the children were older. In summary I would thoroughly recommend staying at this Gite and we will be returning next year, and who knows for many years to come, as we still did not get round all the vineyards.see more
Le Grand Maine
Fabulous!!!!

We have just returned from a great week at Le Grand Maine. this is the second time we have stayed and our expectations were more than realised. It is a beautiful peaceful spot which is well placed for visiting Bergerac, St Emilion or further afield. Nicola and Adrian are fantastic "owners" - friendly and helpful but certainly not "in your face". Solo the dog is a complete star ! It is also great value for money - in fact we like it so much we have already booked for next year !!!see more
The Old Pigeonnier
Perfection

My husband and I stayed in The Old Pigeonnier for 8 days in the heat of August and had the most tranquil, relaxing and peaceful stay. We could not have asked for more - it was a piece of paradise! The accommodation is delightfully renovated and has everything you could need for a holiday. There is a gorgeous swimming pool that was very well used, given that one day the temperature hit 48*!! Although on first impact, the property seems to be very remote, once you get accustomised to your surroundings, you aren't as far away from life as you think! There are some stunning places very close by including some fab local markets. Shopping is easy in a variety of supermarkets nearby and there are some gorgeous restaurants near too. The gite owners, Des and Sarah are on hand for advice and help and are great company. They also have 2 ridiculously gorgeous dogs, Ozzie and Harry, who came to see us every day. All in all, we came away from this holiday completely relaxed and rejuvenated. It was absolutely fabulous and we would have no hesitation in recommending it. We hope to return one day!see more
