Location description from owner

The Sicily region

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, rich in history, culture, art and natural beauty. Riposto is located in the province of Catania, near the volcano Etna and the Ionian coast. Beautiful beaches on the coast and rocky beaches await you in the spring and summer, the slopes of the mountain for skiing await you.

The Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is in the center of the Mediterranean Sea and was in the history always be named desired because of its strategic position and the comfortable climate. Sicily possesses a base of 26,500 km² and harbors ca. 5 million inhabitants. The island is subdivided in 9 provinces, the capital city is named Palermo and lies at the west coast of Sicily. The city has ca. 750000 inhabitants, and offers really pretty buildings out of old times. The second largest city is Catania with 420000 inhabitants. There is a little Italian proverb that said:" Palermo grandeza, Catania belleza." This proverb purported that Palermo have the larger City, but Catania the beauty of Sicily.

The area around Catania posses a large variety of flowers and the sincerity of its habitans is impressing. Also Goehte knew about the beauty of this Island, Taormina and the area around that vulcano etna to appreciate.
The volcano itself is the largest throughout Europe. and one of the most active fire mountains of the world. It is ca. 3450 meters high and impressed 2002 on 2003 entirely Catania and the remainder of the world. It was altogether four months especially active and appeared of a new side. The 7 most important cities and provinces after Catania and Palermo are Messina (270000 inhabitants), Siracusa or Syrakus (110000 inhabitants), Trapani (110000 inhabitants), Caltanisetta (80000 inhabitants), Agrigento (60000 inhabitants), Ragusa (60000 inhabitants), Marsala (50000 inhabitants)

Riposto

RipostoRiposto is a town of nearly 14,000 located on the coast, only 6 m a.s.l., the Etna Volcano rising behind it.

The name of the town means depot or storehouse, as it was a place where goods were deposited nearthe port prior to being shipped.

The province of Catania comprises fifty-eight cities totalling an extension of 3,552 square kilometres and over a million inhabitants. Catania is most renowned for its neighboring, European’s highest, and still active, volcano, that has played a decisive role in the city’s history. Catania has survived numerous disasters – as were several eruptions and at least three big earthquakes numbering victims in the thousands – always regaining its former splendor.

Also renowned is the city’s devotion to its patron Sant’Agata, celebrated on 3 February by a procession of “Candelore”, huge candles carried by the devotees, preceded by a wooden chandelier where are portrayed scenes of the saint’s martyrdom. Other processions take place on the following days.

Catania is renowned for being the birth-place of illustrious figures, such as musician Vincenzo Bellini and writer Giovanni Verga (born at Vizzini), and boasts an important culinary tradition that much owes to the province’s thriving agriculture. Much appreciated are the “pizze” and the “scacciate” (kinds of local pastries) and the seafood and fish cuisine, notably along the seaside

“Ideal for families”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2016

The apartment was in Riposto in a quiet village setting close to the waterfront,( you will need to wear water shoes to go into the sea as its quiet rocky) with a well equipped shop nearby and restaurants. The apartment itself is ideal for families we are a family of six and the children all slept upstairs , where there were children's books , toys and games (also toilet) There is also good sized bedroom downstairs. The owners had thought about everything you could possibly need in the apartment. The kitchen was well equipped , large balcony with dining table and outdoor seating. A great base for a family holiday to explore Sicily.

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure to host this family. We hope meet them again! Thanks for all :-) Grazia, Claudia e Aldo

“Excellent accomodation near the sea and Etna Volcano”

Reviewed 3 Apr 2013

Excellent hub to discover the cultural riches and the awsome landscapes of eastern Sicily, as well as its very friendly inhabitants. We really had a great time @ this apartment, its nice & cosy and some great restaurants just a few steps away and was great to have our minds at rest that the car was safe in the garage! Very warm welcome from the owners!

“Everything you need and kindest owners”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2012

In October, we had a most peaceful time, The house has everything you need and more, very well stocked up. We arrived late and owners welcomed us, even fridge had food and drink. The terrase all round the flat, very pleasant. Riposto has lovely market, the bikes were great to cycle along sea front. Very happy with this rental. Great for family with children, or friends.

“Well equipped Sicilian apartment”

Reviewed 21 Oct 2012

Very welcoming and generous hosts. Very clean with wonderful terrace which we lived on. Unseasonably hot weather in late September so mosquitos were active!! Neighbours and local shops were friendly and we were the only Brits around which was great. Using the bikes available cycling to Riposto for morning coffee was a pleasant experience. There was a slightly out of season feel to the immediate area but towns were bustling. Car essential but be prepared for narrow escapes on the local roads!!

“Close to the sea with Mt Etna views”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2012

Treed and lush 2nd storey location close to Riposto, beaches, and one street away from seaside promenade and bicycle path in Torre Archirafi. Great balcony with spacious outdoor seating and eating areas. Fully-stocked as a home should be with many extras and a charming owner who greeted us warmly. Especially good for a couple - large master bedroom across from modern bathroom. Winding staircase to upper level (don't be tall!) with 2nd bathroom and lots of sleeping space. Would be perfect if the neighbourhood dogs stopped barking!

“Great apartment”

Reviewed 27 May 2012

We spent 3 days in this apartment, it's very nice, in a quiet place with all the comfort you can ask. Great hospitality!!! We had 4 bikes to ride around the near towns. we're very happy in this place, hope to come back to the same apartment but more time.

“Wonderful Apartment”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2011

We spent 4 nights in Casa dei Gerani, and it is a lovely apartment, with everything we could ask for: good facilities, a quiet location, a great welcome from the owners, and easy access to Mount Etna, Giardini Naxos, and Acireale.
