Location description from owner

The South Wales region

The South Wales Valleys and upland mountain ridges were once a very rural area of great natural beauty, noted for its river valleys and ancient forests and lauded by romantic poets such as William Wordsworth as well as poets in the Welsh language, although the interests of the latter lay more in society and culture than in the evocation of natural scenery.

On the Taff's Trail (walking trail which leads to Brecon) and a national cycle route; within walking distance of Castell Coch. Mountain biking, St Fagan's Museum of Welsh Life, 2 miles to a multiplex cinema & bowling. 30 mins drive to Heritage Coast with sandy beaches at Southerndown and Porthcawl.

Taffs Well boasts a number of beautiful rustic eating and drinking establishments. Two of its pubs have won CAMRA awards for their real ale - for those enthusiasts. The village has Wales' only thermal spring and has beautiful parks, hill walks and flat trails that suit holiday makers looking for different things.

The Cottage is very close to a train station where trains leave every 10-15 minutes and take 15 minutes to arrive in Cardiff City Centre. You reall can have the best of both worlds on this holiday in a very short space of time i.e. idyllic country scenery versus the buzz and excitement of city life.

“My feedback to Sharonne and Hugh”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2015

A really comfortable cottage with excellent access to Cardiff City Centre. Nice and cosy and very comfortable sleeping. A 10 minute walk to the local pubs with great weekend entertainment and local store and the fresh air upto the Welsh valleys ;-). Staying in Taffs well at the cottage of Sharonn and Hugh was a nice experience. Sharonne was a great host and very welcoming and accommodating. Without hesitation we would stay again. Regards, Marc

“not a cottage and more suitable for weekend stays only”

A bit disappointing i know the description said adjacent to owners house but i didnt realise we could hear them and of course they could hear us .my son said it was difficult to sleep in the 2nd bedroom due to a dripping noise from the roof. Their kitchen overlooked our living area and to maintain privacy we kept curtains closed.however the location is good be aware no trains on a sunday and The hosts were polite and provided more towels on request, the place was very clean and neat and the kitchen well equipped. I have used trip advisor for 15 yrs and this is the only negative feedback i have given , On the downside wifi was impossible and we had to go into cardiff to organise the next part of our trip

Owner's reply: Dear Guest We are very sorry that your trip wasnt as positive as you hoped. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service. We would have been only too happy to respond to any concerns you had about the facilities at the time and certainly would have remedied the dripping noise if we'd known and WIFI problem if we had known you couldn't connect. I checked trains the week you stayed just in case there was a problem with the line that day and there didn't appear to be any issue. The trains go into Cardiff every 10-15 mins during the week and every 45-60 mins on a Sunday. We cannot see into the cottage at all during the day - it's only possible at night if the light is on curtains not drawn which is pretty normal. I can assure you that privacy is of upmost importance to our guests and ourselves and our development is designed to block out any disturbing noise between the two properties so apologies if this didn't work for you. I can assure you we couldn't and didn't hear you or your family. I hope your experience didn't put too much of a dampner on your visit to Wales. Kind regards Hugh & Sharon

We found the cottage to be very clean and tidy, easy to find. it's location to the local rail service couldn't have been more perfect. We found the owners, Hugh and Sharon, to be very welcoming upon our arrival and when we left.
