Pisa with its world famous Leaning Tower and Lucca with its immaculate medieval centre and exquisite boutiques are both a 20 min drive away. The coast with a choice of either beautiful, wild and broad sandy beaches or rocks and stone beaches are a 30 min drive. Florence is no more than an hour away and the nearest supermarket is a 10 min drive.
We offer guests free access to seasonal organic fruit and veg. This, combined with the use of the pool, the wood fired pizza oven, walks in the grove and proximity to the art cities of Pisa, Lucca and Florence makes La Lucertola a wonderful location to enjoy a memorable, relaxing and stress-free holiday.
The accommodation is a genuine eco conscious choice. It is powered by the sun via photo voltaic solar panels generating the entire electricity supply. It is natural spring water fed – one washes in it, bathes in it and swims in it – wonderful ! Rainwater is collected for the plants and allotments. With many other green initiatives this is a destination to feel good about. There are no additional charges for cleaning.
The combination of hills, sea and proximity to places of cultural interest make this a holiday location to suit and inspire all moods and fancies.
There are countless and special things to do and see. Here are just a few ideas:
A little further down the coast near Livorno is a diving centre where top quality equipment can be rented. It is sufficient to show that you are PADI qualified (or equivalent)
If you are not qualified then snorkeling in the same place is fantastic. We go regularly and have a 7 year old boy who loves it there. You can dive straight off the rocks into crystal clear water.
Kayaking, we have a good friend who is a very keen canoer/kayaker and he often uses the nearby River Serchio for this. Outings on the river or further afield into the 'Garfagnana' (about a 1.5 hour drive away) can be organised if notified in advance.
Horse riding: Ride in the maritime wooded nature reserve of San Rossore and go bird watching on the lake of nearby Torre del Lago. Here the composer Puccini wrote his most famous works and every summer there is an open air lakeside opera festival held in his honour.
Relaxation: Spend a restful and peaceful time at home taking in the views and listening to the birdsong.
Swimming pool: On hot days you can cool off in the pool which enjoys a spectacular and uninterrupted view of Pisa and the hills across the plain below. There is a comfortable surrounding area, furnished with sun loungers and a small table, which is ideal for sunbathing by day and for gentle basking as the sun gradually sets in the evening. Shade is provided by a large umbrella and olive trees.
Walking: Walk well-maintained and extensive forest trails. The views are simply breathtaking and the flora and fauna are glorious.
Cycling: The Giro D’Italia (the equivalent of the Tour de France) comes through this area. It is great road and off road cycling country. We can organise bikes with local cycle companies if required.
Extra features include a shared swimming pool in a secure fenced off area with sun loungers , shade gazebo, table and chairs. There is a large terrace outside the houses for relaxing, sunbathing and dining. There is a bbq area and wood fired oven. Wood is provided free. Children are most welcome. Cots, high chairs, stair gates and extra foldaway beds can be provided at no extra charge.
