The apartment "The ladies retreat" is on the first floor. It is given admittance through the astonishing monumental stairs and trough a delicious parlour where the frescoes on the walls and the ceiling simulate an open air terrace with country landscapes all around.
This apartment is named after the use it had in the past centuries: this was the part of the house where the ladies relaxed while talking, reading and playing music after their morning toilet. The remarkable and absolutely unique neoclassical frescoes in the delicate nuances of ivory colour which are featured in the living room create a seductive atmosphere of great serenity. The apartment is very smart and bright: beside the wide and beautiful living room it features a romantic double bedroom, a trendy kitchen and a large bathroom.

The Tuscany region
Tuscany is the heart of Italian art. Thousands of years of history and culture are witnessed by the most extraordinary monuments you can find in Italy: churches, museums, castles, palaces, ancient towns and villages. But Tuscany is also renowned for its good climate and beautiful landscapes: green hills, blue sea, and sunshine. Why don't try also the thermal spa in Tuscany, which are famous all over the world? As for food, excellent olive oil and superb wines, as well as plenty of tempting traditional dishes with local produce.
Pisa is wellknown for its leaning tower and the amazing Piazza dei Miracoli, which don't need any further description. But there are many other monuments and places which are well worth seeing while walking through the city centre, after having a drink in a stylish café or tasting a real Italian homemade ice cream. Not far from Pisa visit Calci, a nice old town in the country with its beautiful Certosa, S. Miniato (a medieval town with landscapes on Arno valley and countryside), S. Piero a Grado (basilica). In June a festival is held in Pisa, called "Giugno Pisano" with music, traditonal games, exhibitions. On June 16th at night "Luminaria di S. Ranieri": thousands of candles adorn all the buildings along the river Arno and reflect their shapes on the water; unforgettable!Classical music festival "Anima Mundi" in the monumental cathedral in Pisa (September-October).Walk on the hills around Pisa among picturesque villages with a superb view over the country up to the sea and the isles. Cycle lane along the river Arno, many tennis courts and swimming pools available.Beach, boat rent, surfing and sailing in Tirrenia.Good fish restaurants in Marina di Pisa. Lots of cosy restaurants also in the city centre and in the country, where it is not easy to choose between traditional or innovative offerings! Wide range of high quality red and white wines. Taste the Italian food and don't miss the famous white truffles in S. Miniato, only 30 minutes driving from the villa. In November an important food festival is held, which features plenty of delicious dishes with truffles as well as the excellent red wines of the area.Traditional "sagre" everywhere in the countryside in Summer, which are outdoors gastronomic festivals, each offering food and wine inspired by a particular theme or ingredient, depending on the typical produce of the place. Excellent chocolate from local producers.Antique market on the second Suturday and Sunday of each month in Pisa; on the third in Lucca. Beauty treatments at the famous thermal spas S. Giuliano and Casciana.

"Lovely apartment in a wonderful villa near Pisa"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a pristine apartment in this ancient villa which is undergoing renovation in stages, and is a remarkable tribute to the owners. It was a delight to be there. The owners were kindness itself. As a small tip we would perhaps suggest taking or hiring a car. The buses and trains are not too far away; there were bikes available for our use; the owners kindly took us to and from the airport, and were very kind in driving us on other occasions; but it would be an advantage to have one's own vehicle to get around, perhaps to explore the hills. Having said that we had no trouble going to Florence, Pisa, Casina, and Lucca, all by public transport, which we found very convenient when visiting these lovely cities.

"A warm welcome, ideal location and quintessentially Italian villa - buonissima!"
Donatella and Antonio were very generous hosts; welcoming us into their home and always happy to put themselves out to help. The location was perfect for exploring Tuscony, either by car or by train from the nearby station. This was our first visit to this part of Italy and it has everything that one could want in a holiday - culture, beautiful beaches, excellent cuisine... Both Pisa and Florence are wonderful. The villa is so typical of the houses in Italy - lots of space with most beautiful frescoes on the walls and ceilings - but the appartment was modern and well equipped.
Thank you very much for your kind review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your holiday in Tuscany and your stay in our property. We are sorry to learn that you found the bed somewhat uncomfortable, nobody had ever complained before. Our aim is to make our guests feel well with us: we will check the bed immediately and change the mattresses; your tip has been appreciated, thank you again.

"A beautiful place to stay - totally different"
The attention to detail that Antonio and Donatella have given to the appartment was excellent. We both enjoyed admiring the frescos on the wall whilst having breakfast. The stone wall structure of the building ensured that it was always cool within the appartment which was great when trying to sleep. We had a bike ride around the local area, which we both enjoyed. Trains into Pisa depart every 50-80 minutes, into the main train station, then its a very pleasent stroll through the old streets of Pisa to the main sights.
