Description from owner
Completed in 2007 one of three barns, Meadow View Barn has been converted to give a modern relaxing environment retaining the character of the original structure. Accommodation includes a modern open plan living space with large oak windows and French doors that open onto a courtyard garden. Upstairs are 2 characterful bedrooms with exposed beams and Velux windows, there is also a modern family bathroom with a shower over the bath.
The living area is furnished in a contemporary style. The property has a well equipped fitted kitchen, the lounge benefits from a modern Smart 4K TV, Blueray player and a Wii games console, including a small games and DVD library. There is also complementary Superfast WiFi Internet access.
The dinning area has a good sized oak table with seating for 6. The barn sleeps 4+1, upstairs are 2 bedrooms, one king size double one twin. The master bedroom can be configured with a fold out bed (suitable for a child or small adult) or space for a cot. There is a modern family bathroom with a shower over the bath.
The barn is south facing and has a gravel courtyard garden that gets sunshine all day and into the evening. There is a table and chairs on a patio with seating for 4, perfect to unwind in the evening and take advantage of the charcoal BBQ. The garden has a small picket fence with a secure latching gate. There is a dedicated off road parking space for one car.
Meadow View Barn is situated in the village of Over Compton, a delightful hamlet located just on the Dorset side of the county border with Somerset, a few miles from the towns of Yeovil to the west and Sherborne to the east. There are great walks from the village as well as many local attractions including golf, many of Dorset's beaches are only a 30-40min drive. There is a train service from the local station that can take you anywhere between Weymouth (Olympic sailing centre) and Bristol including Bath.
The cottage also includes the benefit of membership to a fantastic members only delicatessen that has a great selection of food and wine as well as some incredible ready meals produced by them on site. This is just a short walk from the cottage through the beautiful grounds of Compton House. Compton House was previously a butterfly farm and famously produced the silk for Princess Diana's Wedding dress.
Public Houses can be found in the neighbouring villages of Nether Compton, a ½ mile walk “The Griffins Head” (very traditional) and Trent 1½ miles “The Rose & Crown”, which has been recently renovated and comes highly recommended serving excellent food.
Short stays are possible depending on availability, please get in touch to check. Our normal change over day is Saturday, this can be more flexible out of peak season so please enquire.

“Outstanding Barn and Location”
This barn is in such a lovely location among country lanes but only a very short distance from the amazing village of Sherbourne which I would highly recommend visiting. The barn has everything you could wish for and level of cleanliness is second to none. It feels a real home from home with all the comforts needed. I am definitely going to be visiting again next year.
“Lovely property in a good location”
Great property in a good location.Very well maintained and clean. Close to all amenities.Highly recommend
“Perfect tranquil location for exploring beaches or towns”
We had a short break (Thursday to Sunday) to make the most of a non school day on the Friday. For us it was a great location as not too far from home but perfectly placed for us to explore more southerly areas of the South West. The Barn is beautifully decorated, excellently equipped and in a quiet village/hamlet just off the main road out of Yeovil so not at all far away from "civilisation" or access to a major route for exploring the area further. Our two teenagers (and their Dad!) appreciated the free/unlimited wifi access and I enjoyed sitting out in the courtyard reading my book in the early evening sun. We all enjoyed relaxing in the Barn after our days out which included - Weymouth; Burton Bradstock (The Hive Beach café is a must!); Sherborne and Lyme Regis. We agreed that this is a property we would love to return to again.
“Great base for relaxing and exploring”
We enjoyed a wonderful week here with our two young boys, the cottage was clean, comfortable and really well-equipped. The peacocks who visited each morning and evening amused the children and the location couldn't have been better. A fab Deli 5 mins walk away meant we could avoid the supermarkets, country walks from the door and no more than 50mins drive to beautiful beaches to keep our little ones busy. Also had a lovely day at Monkey World but apart from the stunning Dorset beaches we all agreed that our favourite day trip was Stourhead NT gardens. The boys had a trekker pack to help them explore and found plenty of trees to climb. The cottage was a wonderful haven to return to each night after a busy day out. Would definitely recommend to others.
Excellent accommodation with great attention to detail. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We particularly enjoyed seeing the peacocks nearby. Our sons were pleased to have the Wifi connection. We would be very happy to stay there again.
“The perfect family holiday”
Great location and a beautiful barn. We spent a week in this fantastic barn... It was beautiful, very children friendly and the location is great. The barn was very clean and well equipped. I would definitely recommend it... Thank you Meadow View Barn we had a fab holiday!
“Delightful, cosy & clean property”
We enjoyed a two week stay at Meadow View Barn and it suited our needs perfectly...very quickly it felt like home from home. We found it spotlessly clean, cosy but uncluttered and well equipped. We particularly appreciated the little basket of goodies we found on arrival and the thoughtful touches like some milk in the fridge. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, the bedrooms were both a good size with plenty of storage and hanging space and the whole property was lovely, warm and cosy. The barn's location makes it a perfect base for exploring the area - the Dorset coast is within easy reach as are some big attractions such as Longleat and Monkey World. There are several National Trust properties in the area and the lovely town of Sherborne is just a few minutes drive away. Would definitely recommend.
