The Andalucia region

Monda is situated only 20 min from Marbella, Costa del Sol and its numerous well-kept beaches many of which have been awarded the European Blue Flag.

The Costa del Sol stretches along just over 150 kilometres of Málaga province and is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations. The mild climate makes the Costa Del Sol a very sort after location all year round.

Monda its self is situated in the natural park of the Sierra Las Nieves. Therefore attracting many visitors who enjoy Bird watching, Hiking, Mountain Biking and over all "Seeing Nature at its Best".

Gourmets and epicures cannot fail to be delighted with the wide range of restaurants and culinary styles Monda has to offer. From tapas with the locals to a gourmet dinner at the Castle, Monda has it all!!

There are plenty of things to enjoy and you dont have to travel to far.

The nearest Golf Course is 20 minutes away.

The old town of Marbella is well worth a visit, its old town wall and little sleepy backstreets, a visit to Orange Square is a must.

Other Interesting places to visit from Monda are El Chorro and the Lakes, Ronda with the oldest bullring in Spain and El Tajo across the gorge. Cordoba with its Mosque, Sevilla with its famous cathedral and La Giralda the golden tower and Granada with the famous Alhambra Palace and splendid General life Gardens and Gibraltar only 50 minutes away.

Only a 20 min drive from Monda is Istan with its Lake Concepcion which is now a reservoir supplying the coast with its water supply. Monda

Monda Pueblo

Monda is a typical Spanish Village situated in the mountains of the Las Nieves. If you want to experience the true feel of Spanish life you will find it in Monda. The landscape and scenery is always inspiring and never boring.

You have entire life cycles taking place in front of you. Small children playing, senoritas gossiping at their front doors or shouting from their blooming balconies.

You can see local businessmen having important meetings alongside the good old boys of the pueblo having their daily game of dominoes and sipping the local “fino”.

You still see old farmers crossing the square with their loaded donkeys on their way to their olive and orange groves.

The streets between the old white houses are narrow, curved and more designed for humans and donkeys than cars.

The design of the houses are typically Spanish with there beautiful flower boxes cascading over the windowsills.

Monda has several small squares. The Church Square is the main one dominated by the old church since 1505. It is surrounded by orange trees, and is the central hub for local Fiesta’s of which there are many.

Monda has many Bars & Restaurants and Discos. If you enjoy good food you can get an excellent meal for a small amount of money or try one of the many Tapas for only 1 euro. Monda has plenty of shops, for your everyday needs.

Monda Castle

Situated high above Village, looking out from the Castle you can see Monda and the countryside around with the natural forest which covers a huge area all the way to Ronda 60 km away.

In the background you can see the Mediterranean Sea at Malaga and the snow covered top of the Sierra Nevada, a popular ski resort only 2 hours drive away.

The Oil Mill

The oldest oil mill is in the centre of town and is 200 years old. An amazing place to visit, the olive mill is powered by a steam machine heated by burning wood from old olive trees. The huge cone shaped granite stone that presses the olives for their juice is the same one that must have been used for generations. The farmers still come in from the countryside to sell their olives to the mill. They transport their olives in big canvas sacks, loaded on exhausted donkeys.

The Cheese Factory

The goat’s cheese produced at the old factory in Monda is very famous and eaten fresh on toasted bread with honey. The goats walk around in the mountains in huge numbers with bells around their necks followed by the goat man and his dog.

La Casita is such a peaceful place I wondered what was happening when I first met “The Goat Man” walking up the lane!

“Lovely, relaxing log cabin with amazing views”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2015

We stayed at the log cabin for nine nights during September 2015. We primarily wanted to use the trip to unwind, catchup on sleep and relax in the sun, Casita Bonita was perfect for this! The log cabin is brilliantly equipped, with little extras like an Italian coffee maker, juicer and plenty of pots and pans to make anything you like and a dishwasher to save on washing up! The TV had a few odd English channels so it was nice to unwind before bed watching these. The outside area was our favourite part, with plenty of seating and sun beds. The pool was also a perfect size and heated up very well especially on the hotter days and we loved soaking up the sun on our lilos. The thing that really stands out about Casita Bonita is the tranquility. we loved sitting outside and hearing nothing but a few animals or Heli's lovely wind chimes. There is also plenty to do in the surrounding areas. We would reccommend a trip to the historic town of Ronda which is about 1 1/2 hours away but worth it! We frequently went into Coin to eat and have tapas in the evening. Coin is about a ten minute drive from the cabin. The locals are very friendly! we would highly recommend Bohemia and La Cruz de piedra Restaurants! They do great fish dishes and iberico ribs! Finally, Heli and Garry were fab hosts. They were so welcoming and always happy to help us if we needed anything. Heli gave us some oranges to make freshly squeezed juice and it's touches like this that make Casita Bonita so very special! We would highly recommend it!

“Perfect in every way”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2015

We stayed for 10 days in July 2015 with our two boys aged 7&17 and i can honestly say it was the best family holiday we have ever had We hoped for peace and quiet with stunning views an hot weather and we were not disappointed. The cabin was a perfect size with everything you need and the pool was our haven to relieve us from the heat (hard life isn't it?) Heli and Gary are the loveliest people and we look forward booking again. I have even recommended to a friend who has already booked up for next summer. One thing i would say is be careful with car hire as we had a few scratches from overgrown trees on the roads up to the cabin so make sure you take the extra insurance or some t-cut.

“Pure relaxation”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2015

We had a lovely week in the CasitaBonita. The owners Garry and Heli were perfect hosts, our welcome platter was perfect and just what we needed. Everything we wanted was in the Casita. Our 11 year old daughter loved the pool and spent most of her time in it as unfortunately it was extremely hot while we were there. I would recommend this holiday home to anyone who just wants to chill out and recharge their batteries, a great place to catch up on your reading. You will need a car as there is no where within walking distance. We visited Marbella twice it is a beautiful place. We ate mostly down in Coin which has some lovely restaurants, it also has a very good supermarket. Continued success to Garry and Heli and their beautiful place.

“Relaxing get away from it all”

Reviewed 20 Jul 2012

We have just returned to the UK after 2 weeks of unspoilt and lovely hot sunshine. La Casita was every bit as good as described and was equipped with everything you could possibly need. The swimming pool was ideal for cooling down on the hot days. Heli and Garry were the most helpful and accommodating hosts and nothing was to much trouble. During our stay we ate outside and BBQ with the gas BBQ but we would highly recommend Heli's cooking after having a fantastic 'romantic' meal which included a wonderful paella. Unfortunately we only tried Heli's cooking on our penultimate evening, if only we had tried it earlier in the holiday! The local village of Monda isn't that far away and if you like your pastries we recommend the chocolate hearts in the local bakery! We ate out mostly in Puerto Banus which is an easy half hour drive to the coast. This holiday is ideal for either just relaxing and doing nothing or if you want to do more it is the perfect base to explore Andalucia. We would definitely recommend this as a great holiday.

“A perfect relaxing holiday with literally the worlds greatest hosts!”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2012

We arrived back in England just over 2 weeks ago from our wonderful stay at La Casita Bonita! What an amazing holiday we had and what amazing hosts! It’s been hard work getting back into the swing of English life! About 4 months before we travelled to Spain I was looking on various websites to try and find some self-catering style accommodations in a less commercial part of the country. We were not interested in going on a package holiday or staying in an overcrowded hotel so an escape to the mountains was required! This holiday was to be a massive surprise for my girlfriend, not only that but I was going to propose to her… I spoke to Heli who is one of the owners of the property. She was incredibly friendly and understanding and went above and beyond to try and help me with my secret plans. I had read other reviews about La Casita Bonita and all of them had mentioned how Heli and Gary were incredibly helpful and would do anything for their guests. This was no exaggeration! With Heli’s assistance we were able to plan a mountain top proposal under 10 minutes’ walk from La Casita Bonita. Heli offered to assist me and purchase some quality champagne and also cook from scratch, a platter of delicious tapas food. She and Gary also went out of their way and snuck off up the hill before me to set up a table, tea-lights and champagne on ice. Amazing! Apart from the life changing moment of proposing to my girlfriend of 5 years on top of a mountain at night with champagne on ice, one of the things that sticks out in my memory is right at the start of our stay. We had got lost in the nearby town (which is quite lively, for anyone planning to visit) and hadn’t found our way to La Casita Bonita. After a phone call to Heli and Gary who we had not met at this point, Gary offered to get in his car and come find us to lead us up the hill. This was our first impression and we were definitely impressed. A very kind and welcoming thing to do! The accommodations were perfect. There are three main areas to relax in but we spent most of our time on the patio/porch area sitting in these incredibly comfortable outdoor armchairs. My fiancé and I drank loads of wine, beer and barbequed the night away. On our arrival Gary set about assembling a hot tub which Heli had mentioned in previous emails. This was a new thing for La Casita Bonita and I noticed on the first day it was being setup, Gary spent nearly the whole day filling it up with hot water by hand. This was extremely thoughtful and I was very impressed at how much effort went into our stay. I am so happy that I found La Casita Bonita and I really hope that anyone else reading the reviews will take good advice from me. If you want a relaxing break away from city life and you want to be treated like royal guests then look no further! We were blown away by our stay and we would definitely go back. Gary and Heli were so helpful and without them I would not have been able to propose to my girlfriend in the way that I did. Thank You
