Location description from owner
The England region
West Dorset is the perfect holiday location with uncrowded beaches, miles of unspoilt Heritage Coast, pretty harbours and little villages seemingly untouched by time. Lovely old houses, museums and houses to explore, excellent sea fishing off the long expanse of Chesil Beach or from nearby fishing lakes. There are countless places of interest to visit in West Dorset – the sub-tropical gardens or swannery at Abbotsbury, for instance, or Hardy's Cottage. Lyme Regis, with its famous Cobb, immortalised in "The French Lieutenant's Woman". Weymouth, Portland Bill and Bournemouth are conveniently placed for a day out. If you wish to venture further afield, there is Brownsea Island or other National Trust properties to visit, or even a day trip from Weymouth to the Channel Islands.Nearby, the local Palmers brewery, is the only brewery to have a thatched roof and offers tours (and samples) which you will not want to miss. West Bay, the pretty harbour of Bridport, was once used as the setting for "Harbour Lights", with Nick Berry portraying the Harbour Master, whilst television celebrity chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was filmed near Binghams Farm in "Return to River Cottage". Bridport market is held Saturdays and Wednesdays in the town and there is an annual Carnival and Show.
Located in the West of Dorset and yet on the dramatic Jurassic coast Bridport is a thriving market town with food and arts events all year round. Market days are Wednesdays and Saturday with something to entice everyone.Supermarkets include Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-op and Lidl with Tesco delievery service available. - Very Good
“Spacious, comfortable and quiet.”
Roe Barn is ideally situated for exploring the Dorset coast and countryside. Very peaceful with lovely views. Our grandchildren enjoyed the play area especially the trampoline and we all loved the walk down to the river with the banks of primroses. Us grandparents had the privilege of sleeping in the upstairs bedroom and found it magical to lie there looking at the stars through the Velux windows. On a couple of nights we saw the space station go over! The barn is a great size with all mod cons. Ideal for our family. The welcoming flowers and scrummy cakes were a really nice touch. Will definitely go back. We need to find more fossils on Charmouth beach!
“Fantastic home from home in a brilliant location”
We enjoyed a very relaxing week, everything you need is there for your stay, a true home from home. When we arrived waiting for us was tea, coffee and a home baked cake, a lovely touch to help you settle in. The property is spacious, well designed and brilliant for two couples each with a large dog. We found everything we needed to cook some great meals, and the dishwasher took care of all the washing up. The wood burner is a joy, we went for some lovely walks and then relaxed in front of the lovely fire. The wood basket was full and plenty more in the wood store. The WiFi worked really well, and it was nice having smart TVs in the bedrooms as well as the living room. No shortage of hot water in the lovely bathrooms. The garden is nicely enclosed and plenty of room for dogs or children to run around, a real bonus being able to enjoy the further grounds, lovely woodland area and the river. Lisa and Alistair are very friendly and make you very welcome, they balance being around if needed but letting you enjoy your peace and quiet as well, perfect hosts. Only five minutes away from Bridport which has all the shops you need and some good takeaways as well. We visited Charmouth, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Portland, all within a 30 miles radius, love the road along the coast through Burton Bradstock, lovely walks from the car park and the Hive beach cafe is well worth a visit. Fantastic stay we will be back again, we don't often return to the same holiday cottage but this is a real gem. We stayed in Bluebell cottage on our first visit in 2015, which is equally lovely but wanted the extra space that Roe Barn offers. Looking forward to going back in 2017.
“It was just perfect for our requirements”
We stayed at Roe Barn and we found the cottage exceeding our expectations. The cottage is very well situated at the end of a long drive, so very quiet and with large car parking space. The cottage was very spacious for our need, 4 adults and 2 dogs and very well equipped as well as very friendly. I would most definitely recommend the cottage for dog’s lovers, as the garden was very safely enclosed and walks start near the cottage, (no need to take the car). There was ample space in the cottage entrance to leave all our coats/shoes/rucksacks and dog paraphernalia, which was extremely practical. We found Lisa & Alistair very helpful and accommodating and their knowledge of the area was very much appreciated.
We had a really wonderful time at the barn. We relaxed very quickly in the comfort and warmth of the barn, and the beautiful surroundings. The children loved the space, and we all slept soundly. We have really enjoyed the local area; walking, fossil hunting, picnicking, and exploring the landscape and its history. My husband and I had a bit of a debate about whether to leave the blinds open in the upstairs bedroom, but having won the debate one night, I was ecstatic to see the space station (Tim Peake, et al) fly over us in the early hours of the morning! We got to see the stars overhead for the rest of the week – absolutely fabulous!! We were so lucky with the weather too; clear frosty mornings and cold, but brilliant sunny days. Happy days!
Roe Barn is beautiful, warm and cosy. The setting is quiet and peaceful with lovely views and within easy reach of the sea and many of the local towns - it's perfectly placed. The weather was awful when we stayed so the log burner (with free logs) was a blessing. Lisa braved the rain and wind to come over and welcome us on the first night and very kindly left us some home made muffins which were greatly appreciated by all of us! We will be back when hopefully the weather will be kind enough to allow us to appreciate the wonderful views and to take advantage of the lovely large garden.
Stayed for a week in Roe Barn with my wife, our 2 children aged 2 and 8 months and my parents. The barn is exceptionally well appointed with all the mod-cons you need to make it feel like home. We had one chilly evening which I used as an excuse to fire up the log burner - need to work on the wife to try and get one at home! Would highly recommend Roe Barn for anyone looking for a quiet place to stay.
Roe barn was a great place to stay, perfect for exploring surrounding coastline/villages. Extremely dog friendly, ours had a great time. Will defiantly stay again!! :))
“The Greatest Christmas ever !”
A wonderful place to spend Christmas, Roe barn was beautiful, very warm with everything provided ! great :)
“A really good holiday”
We loved this place, it was very clean, well equipped and the owners were approachable and helpful. The property was particularly good for people wishing to let their dogs have space to run. lots of information and plenty of places to visit.
“5* accommodation and doggy holiday heaven”
Lisa & Alistair made us so welcome and gave us advice on where to visit and recommended pubs etc. We were looking for somewhere which was good quality accommodation that we could take our dog Bert, with a wood burner and near the sea wow we weren't disappointed!! Roe barn is beautiful with a spacious safe garden for the dog to round around. Look forward to going back in the future.
