Villa Talea is a traditionally built country home with private pool. The villa is tucked away on a sheltered, sunny hill side of the north coast of Crete. The house is set on the outskirts of the tranquil, traditional village of Exantis with fruit orchards and olive groves all around and about ½ kilometre (0,3 miles) to the nearest neighbour.
Behind the massive stone walls of Villa Talea you'll find a fully equipped, high quality holiday home. With 2 bedrooms and the possibility of an extra bed it is the perfect holiday accommodation for up to 5 people. Available from April through October.
Easy access to beaches, the national road and airports.
The rich history and culture of Crete as well as the splendour of the nature offers a wealth of adventures for everyone. When choosing Villa Talea as your holiday home you will have easy access to both the east and west of Crete.
The local village Exantis is a very small place with only 50-60 residents. Unlike many other places on Crete's north coast tourism has not influenced Exantis a lot. Here it is primarily agriculture in the little valley that surrounds the village, which employs people. First and foremost it is olives, but also citrus fruits, wine and various vegetables.

The Rethymnon Prefecture region
Crete is the largest Greek island and (apart from the small island Gavdos) the southernmost part of Europe. It is a very popular holiday destination catering for more than two million visitors (more than 22% of all international arrivals in Greece) every year.
"Crete is a wonderful and dramatic island, a miniature continent with precipitous mountains, a hundred gorges, unique plants, extinct animals and lost civilizations, as well as the characteristic agricultural landscape of olive groves, vines and goats."
(From: Moody & Rackham: The making of the Cretan landscape).
Crete has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and warm, dry summers. The rainy season usually starts in late October or early November and lasts until March or April. But most of the year - ten months or more - the sun shines on Crete from a clear blue sky.
Flora and fauna:
People have lived on Crete for thousands of years. But despite this long history of human activity Crete's nature and the environment continues to be very varied. The rich fauna and flora of Crete is a result of the island's relative isolation from the surrounding land masses and the island's many different ecosystems.
Especially in the spring months the island is overwhelmingly lush giving the landscape a completely different look than in the parched summer months. But also at all other times of year you can enjoy the many and varied landscape types that Crete has to offer.
History and culture:
The geographical position of Crete at the intersection between Asia, Africa and Europe, has attracted the interest of many of the neighbouring peoples. Through trade and shipping, conquest and immigration over thousands of years they all left their traces on the island and even today the influence of many cultures can be felt. Crete is Greek with a little touch of the Middle East and a reminiscence of Italy.
It is a big - and a small island - at the same time. The mountains divide the island and make it appear much larger than it really is. It's not that quickly traversed as one might think. On the other hand, the hustle of the city life and the tourist areas can be replaced with the tranquillity of the small mountain village literally in a matter of minutes. Just by going a few kilometres away from the major centres. And crossing the contrast between town and village are customs, habits and ways of life that are as much an integral part of 'modern' as 'traditional' Crete.
Villa Talea lies ourside the very small village of Exantis. In the early nineties around 100 people lived in the village. Today, perhaps as few as 50-60 individuals have permanent residence here. The entire village is situated around a small crossroads. (There are really only three roads and a few smaller alleys in the village). The village center is a small square where a few mulberry trees provide shade in summer. Across the street is Taverna Maria, the gathering place for the locals.
