Location description from owner

The North Wales region

The cottage is situated in the peaceful Cywarch Valley (Cwm Cywarch in Welsh) near Dinas Mawddwy in Southern Snowdonia. Situated 15 minutes from both the market towns of Dolgellau and Machynlleth, it is an ideal location to explore Snowdonia and Mid Wales.

Surrounded by fields, streams, wildlife and farm animals, the cottage is just 2 miles from the nearest village pub (with good food) in Dinas Mawddwy and just 2.5 miles from the nearest garage and grocery store. Dinas Mawddwy is also home to Meirion Mill craft shop and café.

There are many activities that can be enjoyed during your stay at Troed yr Aran. Snowdonia’s very own Aran Fawddwy (2971ft) provides a great challenge for walkers and there are plenty of good valley walks to try out as well. There is also a world renowned mountain biking centre just north of Dolgellau at Coed-y-Brenin. Salmon and trout fishing are available on the river Dyfi. Pony trekking is also available locally. 3 miles north of the cottage, Bwlch y Groes (the highest pass in Wales) leads to Vyrnwy and Bala lakes with their wide range of watersports.

Popular attractions in the area include the Centre for Alternative Technology, Corris Craft Centre, King Arthur's Labyrinth, RSPB Nature Reserves (including Lake Vyrnwy), and Mari Eluned Jewellery Gallery. Or you can take a trip on one of the nearby narrow gauge railways. The nearest sandy beaches can be found in Fairbourne (20 miles) and Barmouth (21 miles).
