There are many flights now into Heraklion Airport from most UK Airports - April to November. We have found that Skyscanner is an excellent way to compare prices and times.
Most European Airports fly to Heraklion and Sitia Aiports. Sitia is a 35 minute drive to the Villa.
Car Hire - we have found Motorplan to be very accommodating. They have an office at Heraklion and also one in Makrygialos making life very easy should you wish to change vehicles.
The Lassithi Prefecture region
This is a tourist spot that is hardly touched by the package holiday trade as the aim is to protect the local culture and prevent large scale development. It is unpretentious, charming and close to nature with a special 'feel'. There are only a couple of large hotels in Makrigialos. Guests at the villa have full access to all the organised water sports, gym and spa facilities at the Mikrio Poli Hotel.
Some of the best weather in Crete is in this area due to its own micro-climate. Beaches are unspoiled. Take a drive round the nearby coast. There is a seemingly never ending succession of beautiful secluded bays and coves. Drive up into the mountains to see breath taking views of deserted sandy beaches with crystal clear water
Situated on the south east coast of Crete, Makrigialos is only 30 minutes from the local working towns of Lerapatra (south east coast) and Sitea (north west coast).
Some of the best beaches in Crete all gently lapped by crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean sea.
A mountain range runs West to East across the island which gives the fantastic climate, possibly the best in the Med.
Makrigialos produces the best olive oil and has a very high specific gravity and is treasured by restaurants worldwide. The local produce is all of the highest quality and is available in all local restaurants, particularly lamb, fish, chicken, fruit, feat cheese, vegetables, wine and the world famous olive oil.
Makrigialos is surrounded by thousands of acres of raw, majestic, Cretan countryside and mountains.
On your doorstep:
Pervolakia Gorge - scenic walk with smells of the herbs
Mona Kapsa Monastery
Dragons Cave - 2 km east along the coast road, looking back towards Makrigialos and the mountain backdrop
Diaskari Taverna - on the waters edge, shaded by trees with wonderful simple fresh food.
Porphyra - Great Greek Meze and traditional Cretan food
Remains of a Roman villa and the Minoan Villa is within easy walking distance from the village
Island of Koufonissi is a small uninhabited island a few miles away in the Libyan sea
The Makrigialos Music Festival takes place over the last weekend in June-includes modern sax to early italian lut music. Opera to a children's concert.

"Fantastic villa with spacious pool area and beautiful views"
Villa Lagada is a lovely, modern, well-equipped villa with plenty of sun loungers to lie on by the pool and ample places to sit in the shade with a book. It is situated in a quiet, unspoilt part of Crete where the people are very friendly, and you are welcomed in shops and restaurants with open arms! We journeyed out to Vai beach one day - lovely sand, palm trees, warm sea and crazy inflatable sofa rides! There are also numerous hidden coves and beaches along the coast nearer the villa, some of which you have to scramble down to. We drove up to Elounda to catch a boat to Spinalonga, which was definitely worth a visit having read Victoria Hislop's book and also walked up a couple of nearby gorges. Eating out in Makrigialos at the water's edge and watching the sun set behind the mountains at the Dragon's Cave was fantastic. The food was delicious and the service was always excellent. All in all, a wonderful holiday. We hope to come back again soon.
Thank you so much for your review, they mean a great deal to us. Hope yo hear from you again soon

"A well equipped, spacious and comfortable villa"
The villa is well equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay, especially in the kitchen. The barbeque at the side of the house was a great success, as was the swimming pool and the pleasant outside seating areas. We had some strong winds during our stay which blew debris into the pool and knocked out the satellite TV, but the agents at the nearby Bay View Hotel were extremely helpful and obliging in getting it all put right as quickly as they could. The local town, Makrigialos, has some very agreeable restaurants and a good beach for toddlers. For those who want something more remote and rugged, that is available too. There are some excellent walks for those who are energetic.
What a lovely review of villa Lagada, thank you so much. As you can imagine we rely on TripAdvisor so much these days so thank you again

"great weather; friendly local village, fantastic villa"
11 days at the villa in Makrigiapoulos with my family was just about right. The layout of the villa and the pool and garden was excellent. The walk to the village was half an hour but by way of a great beachside bar. The ocean was clear and cool and our day charter to the island with Michaelis a great experience
Many thanks for your review and we hope to see you again at Villa Lagada

"gorgeous villa in a fabulous part of Crete"
7 of us stayed here including a teenager. The villa was fantastic with everything you could need. The location is lovely but I recommend a car as its worth travelling around the east side of Crete. I hope to return in the near future.
Many thanks for you kind words and we are so glad you and your family had a wonderful time at Villa Lagada. We look forward to hearing from you again sometime in the future

"Five Star facilities in a beautiful location"
Villa Lagada is a truely magical villa located off the beaten track. The standard and facilities at the villa were five star. We have never seen such a clear night sky so spent many evenings on the roof terrace looking at the stars. Everyone in Makrigialos was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We would recommend learning about the owls before staying - it may save a sleepness night!
Thank you for your lovely comments, I can confirm that we have now made the chimney owl proof! As lovely as they are I too would like them to have babies somewhere else

"Every-thing we dreamed of, more than we hoped for"
The villa lives up to its reputation as being the perfect venue for a large family getaway. Ric and Marion have added many extra features that make it a luxury dream home with the added bonus of spectacular scenery and guaranteed weather. We arrived in darkness and once the track was negotiated we were greeted by the advance party who had been in the pool all afternoon and were flashing torches to guide us in. It was a truly special experience. The locals couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and part of the community. There was no need to venture further than a 10 minute car drive to access amazing food, beaches and shops. The round trip to the airport was as described and adds to the feeling of seclusion. A truly special experience.
Many thanks for your kind words they mean a lot to us and potential guests. I have already asked for an estimate to have the lights fitted along the drive. Not only will this look spectacular but assist the driving.

"Fantastic, Realxing, Friendly, what more can you ask for"
This new villa is out of this world. Set on a hill a few minutes drive from a great family freindly town and beach it has everything a 5 star villa should. The view is fantastic the peace and quite is ideal for a relaxing holiday with friends and family and with everything you need within a few minutes drive (did not walk as was too relaxed and the little one was only 6 months old - buty you could walk if you wanted too) The owners cant do enough for you prior to you going out there and then the mangement company are the same - helpful, friendly and wishing you a great holiday. The villa has everything you need and all at a high standard - the pool is brilliant and a really good size. The drive from the airport is slightly longer than other resorts but well worth it to get away from the crowds. If you have a family the beach is great and the sea is shallow for a a good 50m so very safe. We will be back i am sure.

I came out to the Villa for the first time last august but simply forgot to write a review! Last year i travelled with 10 others (including my friend, my family and another family) the youngest person was around 14 and the villa had everything we needed to provide us with a comfortable, relaxing, enjoyable stay! I was younger than most of the adults (by a long way, not that they will admit it) and even i was impressed with the sheer volume of space and equipment that the villa had. Including a Wii and a play station the boys were content while all the girls soaked up the rays. The wide variety of DVDs to play on the fab telly resulted in some cosy nights in watching Bridget Jones! We were so impressed with the villa we returned back to the villa this July for two weeks, this time travelling with a completely different group of people. My family were of course still there but this time my auntie and uncle accompanied us there for the second week. The transformation was outstanding: the first week there was just four of us in the villa allowing us to sprawl out in all the space provided and basque in the complete tranquility of the silent villa, with the only noise being the gentle breeze. We used the BBQ a few times that week but mainly ventured out into the tavernas which are just a 5 minute drive away, i must recommend the fish restaurant at the end of the main street ( i cant quite remember the name of it. But if you get to Gustos [another fab place to eat] or coukos bar- just keep walking), it has shells on hanging down and the guy is a small chubby man called Mimis. He is a great host who will sit and talk to you for hours over several rakis! The second week could not have been more different! With cousins aged 8 and 3 the atmosphere was less tranquil and more fun. I had several portions of "soup" served to me (water in a frisbee) and was cooled down numerous times a day, as the 8 year old drizzled cool water on me. We had many more BBQs that week as the atmosphere was perfect for it, we sat round the comfy chairs and played hundreds of games of monopoly deal [which you must play, the cards are provided in the villa] The villa is able to cope with whatever holiday you are plannning... whether it be a holiday amongst friends, family, or with little children serving soup, the villa has all that you could possibly want, and much more than you would expect from your standard villa. I am definitely planning to return for my third year running!
