KEA is an attractive destination, a paradise for the Athenians ,with natural beauties and long rich history. Mountainous, with green valleys, vineyards, with nice beaches ,with a slow and comfortable pace of living. It attracts mainly Greeks and especially Athenians who build elegant villas or restore old farms or wind mills. It combines natural beauty and tradition and at the end, the stranger who's visited the place finds himself in love with it. In love with a vision that embraces past and present, a vision that makes the place alive throughout the past, the myths and the history. The island is full of myths, ancient ruins and statues, fine ancient temples very well preserved (temples of Apollo and Athena ) ,nicely restored wind mills, monasteries and old churches, beautiful Chora and villages with impressive architecture. Relaxing taverns everywhere around the island, cafe, bars, restaurants guarantee that the visitor will mostly enjoy his stay. Night life seems very promising and offers a vast variety of choices.
One hour away of port Lavrio, with up to 4/5 boats per day the high season, two hours away from Athens and Athens international airport, Kea is a hidden paradise.
The Katoikia Spathi is 16km away from the port, via a nice road of which the last 2km before reaching the house, is unpaved. The beach of Spathi is another 2km away from the house, via an also unpaved road and sometimes poorly maintained. It should be noted that many roads are still unpaved in Kea and the access to the beaches, mostly to the south ones, demand a car.
So, we strongly recommend our guests during the stay in Katoikia Spathi to rent a car in order to enjoy more their holidays and circulate around the island. For access to Katoikia Spathi and for visiting around the island,
a car type of jeep/cross/4x4 is mostly appropriate and needed.. For July/August it is necessary to make a car rent reservation.
There is no need to book in advance passengers seats for the boat, from port Lavrio. It is highly recommended though to do so for a car, especially during high season period (July/August).Ticket fair is about 12 Euro/person and 32/45Euro/car, according to the type of vehicle. The price of a taxi to Katoikia Spathi is around 30 Euro from the port, one way, whereas to rent a car will cost around 35 to 45 Euro per day, depending upon the season and the type of the car.
