“Amazing stay!” I thought the Fava Residence was absolutely fantastic and certainly better than I had hoped for. It's a bit of a walk to get to (about 6 minutes from the nearest car park / bus stop) although at the same time I think this is part of the charm as it creates a sense of serenity away from the hustle and bustle of the very touristy areas fifteen minutes away. The residence itself is very well-managed, with an amazing view, clean facilities all around, very comfortable and sizeable rooms at what I found to be the best prices in Santorini. The owner himself was incredibly helpful and friendly, and he provided us with all the information we needed to get around as well as advice and introduction on how to get discounted rates around town. I was also quite moved when he gifted us a bottle of what I later learned is the best local wine in town on our wedding day.
“Fabulous place, authentic village, sunset view!” Fava Residences are a lovely collection of apartments with a beautiful summer sunset view over the water. Master and Junior share a large terrace, with small private areas, while aeolos has its own private terraces one level up. They are in Finikia village, not Ia, but this is not necessarily a disadvantage. Finikia is an authentic village, without all the tourist shops of Ia, Thira and the other towns. It's a 10-minute walk from Fava to the beginning of the Ia promenade. Note that many cliff-side hotels in Ia do not have the sunset views, at least in July. Only those at the far north end of town get the view, and also the crowds of tourists who come to see it. To get to Fava Residences, you walk through the village paths (no cars!), so you have to be prepared to do steps, both up and down. It's about a five-minute walk from the parking lot (you will want to have a car). Also, the terrace wall is only about a foot high, with a one-storey drop-off on the other side, so not really safe for small children (or drunk adults!) There are no shops in the village, but there is a very nice taverna, where we had a good meal, and there's another near the entrance to the village called Santorini Mou, where we had a wonderful evening of Greek music and dancing (we did not eat there). The owner of Fava, Atonis, is a wonderful host. He provided someone to help with our bags and guide us to the place, and loads of useful information, tailored to our specific interests. All of his recommendations were great. The apartments are beautifully decorated and kept. Master Suite, where we stayed, is spacious and lovely, and easily large enough for two adults and our grown son. It has a small kitchen and its own bathroom with shower. This place lives up to its photos. If you're looking for a laid-back and authentic Greek experience, still convenient to whatever you want to do and with a great host, you will love it!
