There are numerous reasons why holidaymakers return to Kalkan time and time again. If you want to 'chill out' you can dine on your apartment balcony, swim in the apartment pool or enjoy being pampered at one of the many beach clubs and then wander down to town in the evening to eat at your chosen restaurant. However If you want to be more active there are numerous things to do and interesting places to visit:-

Places to Visit

Kas - Catch the regular bus or dolmus and enjoy the magnificent 29k coast road scenery

Fethiye - a one hour car journey will get you to this large town with its scenic waterfront, casbah shopping area in the old town, ancient rock tombs and modern supermarkets and famous market on Tuesdays

Sakilikent Gorge - the second largest gorge in Europe - magnificent, wade through the icy cold water at the head of the gorge

The markets - buy your excellent fake copy Tshirts, watches, shoes, handbags etc from the markets at Fethiye ( Tuesday ) Kalkan ( Thursday ) or Kas ( Friday )

Olu Deniz and Karakoy ( The 'Dead City' )

Ephesus and Pammukale - two day trips run from Kalkan

Trout Farms are a good idea for lunch. Drive up the hill towards Yesilkoy carry on towards Isclamar where the temperature is cooler and you will find many restaurants with good reputations however Mehmets has a great view - travel back via Berzigan for wonderful scenery.

You will be spoilt for choice with the many boat trips on offer from the harbour. Apart from the glorious scenery to admire as you sail around the many bays and islands, you will be served with the most delicious restaurant-quality food. You can swim, snorkel and even have a mud bath if you wish. Sunset cruises are also great fun.

The Kalkan / Komurluk area

Once an old Greek fishing village Kalkan is now a friendly, sophisticated resort rich in traditional charm and character. A network of narrow streets and alleyways winding down to the harbour make Kalkan the prettiest resort along the Lycian coast.

Quiet by day the resort comes to life after dusk. For many, visitors dining out in the evening is the highlight of the holiday - with a large number of excellent roof top and other restaurants, cafes and bars catering for all tastes and pockets. After your meal try shopping at the numerous boutiques and small shops which litter the alleyways. The resort has several mini supermarkets, banks, chemists, a Turkish Bath and a post office.

Personally I found the La Sera Turkish Bath and massage on Kalamar Road very relaxing and loved the clothes at Bellma Boutique. The males in my family can certainly recommend the men's hairdressing and the local dentist, both of these services being much cheaper than Uk

The Kalkan / Komurluk area

Komurluk has developed as the most select area of Kalkan, boasting a relatively small number of expensive properties. The Komurluk apartments have superb sea views which are neither distant nor partially obstructed and Manzarali, which is Turkish for 'with a view', allows guests a wonderful panoramic sea and sunset view plus a view of the picturesque Kalkan Harbour which is just a 10 mins pleasant coastal walk from Komurluk.

Once an old Greek fishing village Kalkan is now a friendly, sophisticated resort rich in traditional charm and character. A network of narrow streets and alleyways, many adorned with Bougainvillea, wind down to the harbour making Kalkan the prettiest resort along the Lycian coast.

Quiet by day the resort comes to life after dusk. For many visitors dining out in the evening, in a rooftop restaurant, under the stars, or on the sea front is the highlight of the holiday - There are a large number of excellent roof top and other restaurants, cafes and bars catering for all tastes and pockets. After your meal try shopping at the numerous boutiques and small colourful shops which litter the alleyways. The resort has several mini supermarkets, banks, chemists, and Turkish Bath. and a post office. On your short walk into town you will pass the Supermarket, they will deliver your shopping to Manzarali.(saves carrying heavy bottles of water)

From the the post office ( PTT ) you can telephone England very cheaply from their desk phone, just dial, speak & pay cashier at the end of your call, cheaper than a mobile phone!

I find when changing money from GBP to TL you get a much better rate in Kalkan than you would in England. Usually I get the best rate at The Tukish Banks or shops.

Free unlimited WIFI is available at Manzarali both in the apartment and by the pool also almost every cafe, restaurant, bar and beach club.offer free wifi Just ask for the code and they are happy to give it to you.

Fener Cafe (Lighthouse Cafe) in the harbour has free WIFI and apart from Manzarali's sunset balcony, if I am in town the Lighthouse Cafe is my 2nd favourite place to sit and watch the boats come back in from their day trips at 5.30pm. The food is very reasonably priced here too or you can just enjoy one of their delicious pancakes, waffles and or a three flavoured ice cream!

I can certainly recommend La Sera traditional Turkish Bath and massage on Kalamar Road (Ilhan will even pick you up from Manzarali to save you the walk) , Belma Boutique has fabulous inexpensive summer clothes and Just Silver has a huge selection of jewellery; If you are looking for something unique, you can even design your own jewellery, Ladies will be spoilt for choice with the many reasonably priced, good quality, fabulous handbag shops in the town.

Also there are many good men's hairdressing salons to choose from and the local dentist services being much cheaper than in England.

The Turkish people are very friendly and hospitable, they can't do enough for you. Don't be surprised as you walk by the cafes and shops, they often ask you in for a free drink and it is not just to try and sell. Also in the restaurants, more often than not , you are given free starters and or coffee. They are genuinely very generous people.

“Beautiful apartment with Mazing views”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2013

Having seen the photos of the apartment and views from the balcony I was really looking forward to our stay. When we arrived the apartment, balcony and views were everything we could have hoped for. The apartment is very well equipped, extremely comfortable and we soon felt at home. The pool is just a staircase below and if you have older children you can supervise them from either the balcony or poolside. Kalkan is a special place, with wonderful views wherever you are, fantastic food and lots to explore. I'd recommend a day trip of one of the boats, they all come back in from a days sailing at 5.30pm, so wander down to the harbour then and pick a boat to go out on. We went on Sunset 2, which was great. We only went for a week, with such a comfortable base and beautiful town I wish we'd stayed longer. Thank you Mavis.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your favourable review. I am so pleased that both Manzarali Apartment and the amazing views lived up to all your expectations and that you and your family enjoyed your holiday in very special Kalkan.

“Manzarali apartment - wow what a great view”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2013

We stayed at the Manzaralli apartment from 10th June 2013 for 2 weeks and it was amazing. The apartment is beautiful but the view can only be described as breathtaking. From the moment we arrived we knew that we had made the right choice. The walk into the town is fine but very steep on the way back (Taxi’s are a great idea). I can recommend the Bodega ? Fish restaurant in the mountains, the trout is gorgeous as are the views. The road to get there is a bit hairy in place but worth the drive. The town is lovely with loads of bars & restaurants ( and plenty of shops!!), we enjoyed the Nar‘s Rooftop Restaurant for a special steak and the Bougonville for really traditional Turkish food. We were lucky to have a BBQ on our terrace so we also enjoyed sitting watching the sunset with a simple BBQ, salad and a chilled glass of wine especially after a long hot day out on the boat. If you like to go out to sea I can definitely recommend Captain’s Osman & his Brother Adem (Yildiz 2 & 3) who are brilliant as are their wives who provide fantastic food. We also went on a trip with Ramazan (the next boat along in the harbour) which was also really good. There are many choices of beach clubs but we found that the Palm Beach club, close to the apartment was great, easy to walk down to but a challenge to get back up the hill. We used to take advantage of the free water taxi across to the harbour, do a little shopping, have a drink (of course) and stroll back at a leisurely pace!!. All in all we had a really great time and would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t got restricted mobility

Owner's reply: Thank you,I could not have wished for a more complimentary and informative review. I am so glad you enjoyed staying at Manzarali and the beautiful view from the balcony where you also made good use of the BBQ.I agree Kalkan town and all it has to offer with shops, restaurants and boat trips is amazing.

“Absoulutey Fantastic”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2013

Wonderful apartment, stunning views of the sea & surrounding area from the balcony. lounge and main bedroom. Very well appointed apartment & tastefully decorated. Would book again & again. Kalkan is a bit special.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your complimentary review. I am so glad Manzarali and Kalkan lived up to all your expectations and you enjoyed your holiday.

“Amazing views, amazing apartment, amazing holiday”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2013

The apartment is very spacious and very well decorated. It has all the amenities required for a self catering holiday. The balcony is one of the largest in the building, and provides you with wonderful views of the sea and Kalkan town. A BBQ on the balcony is a welcome bonus! Also the ottoman style seating is perfect to relax in the evenings or for a break from the sun during the day. There are plenty of sunloungers by the pool, and the pool is never really busy. The apartment is located a 10 minute walk from the centre of Kalkan, or you can get a taxi there for about £5. I would recommend this apartment to all couples or families looking for a luxury, peaceful holiday. It's a gem!

Owner's reply: Thank you for such a lovely review. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed staying at Manzarali Apartment and had everything you needed including the BBQ. It is good that you also loved the front balcony with it's beautiful views and the side balcony for shade during the day and relaxation in the evening. Sounds like you also had a fabulous time in Kalkan village with all it's restaurants, shops and picturesque harbour. I look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

“Fantastic”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

Had a wonderful holiday in Kalkan, First time to Turkey and we all found Kalkan a great place. The apartment is exactly as described . The new owner Mavis was very helpful and the view is amazing . Would highly recommend and we are hoping to book again for next year. The walk in to town is a lovely 15 minute stroll but ladies dont bother taking anything other than flat shoes as it is just a rocky walkway . Highly recommended for a fantastic holiday.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to review your holiday. I am so glad that you loved Manzarali Apartment and Kalkan as much as I do. Looking forward to welcoming you back again.
