Location description from owner

The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region

The beautiful fishing village of Kalkan nestles at the foot of the Taurus Mountains within easy reach of many historical places of interest including Xanthos, Thlos and the ancient city of Patara. The famous Patara Beach is nearby with 18 miles of golden sand which is home to the loggerhead turtles. Nearby towns include Kas and Fethiye.

Kalkan

Kalkan has a unique cosmopolitan feel about it that draws back discerning British visitors as well as guests from other parts of Turkey and the rest of the world.

White washed buildings surrounding the picturesque harbour. It's narrow cobbled streets are lined with craft shops, boutiques and restaurants. Restaurants (many of them with roof top terraces) specialize in everything from traditional Ottoman/Turkish fare to sophisticated fine dining. The quality is excellent with plenty of fresh produce and varied menus. The very favourable exchange rates make it very reasonably priced, giving plenty of opportunities to try a different array of dining experiences. There are several stylish bars dotted around for those who wish to relax with a drink, listening to all kinds of music from jazz, pop, blues to traditional Turkish.

Whilst the gentlemen are having themselves a hair cut and shave in a traditional Turkish barber shop, the ladies can browse the many boutiques, jewellery and craft shops. Whether it's ceramics, glassware, carpets or merely cushions, the choices are endless. The locals love to barter and their natural hospitable nature will usually mean that they will offer a cup of turkish or apple tea to refresh you during the negotiation experience. The Turks just love to see the tourists happy and make friends.

For the sun worshippers, Kalkan has it's own small pebble beach but the beach clubs around the town are a firm favourite with the tourists. These have bathing platforms with sun loungers and parasols and the advantage of restaurants and bars. There is an entry fee which includes sun loungers and parasols and transport to and from the club by water taxi. Some offer water sports at an extra charge.

Scuba diving is available locally with PADI certified schools. The area is excellent for fishing, snorkelling or just exploring the surrounding area by sea on a gulet day cruise. You can go as part of a tour, or charter your own private gulet with skipper and plan your own adventure. There is no end of things to do to make for a relaxing and varied vacation.

“Everything we needed for a most enjoyable break.”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2016

The apartment is very well equipped with a superb ambiance. There were only two of us but I would have no hesitation in returning with friends or family another time to make use of the other two beds. There's more than enough well appointed space for four people with each bedroom having its own en suite bathroom. The kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook for yourselves and there is plenty of fresh local produce available a short walk into town. Much as I enjoy cooking the lure of the many excellent restaurants in Kalkan proved too much and we ate out most of the time. The pool is fine for a cooling dip and there were always loungers and umbrellas available. Most days we headed for the nearby Palm Beach Club. A short but steeply sloping walk from the apartments. This provided everything, apart from sand, you could want for a relaxing day beside the sea. The club also runs a free boat transfer to and from town. In summary a very comfortable apartment close enough to the lovely town of Kalkan to give you all you need for a most enjoyable break.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. I hope we can welcome you back again with friends and family. Best wishes Caroline and Chris - Owners

“Superb apartment. Amazing views. Fantastic location”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2015

This immaculate apartment really suited our needs for a week in the lovely town of Kalkan. It is well equipped, spacious and beautifully decorated. It is in an an elevated location, so the views over the bay from the balcony are outstanding. A staircase leads down to the pool and there is a very helpful manager/concierge on site. The owner is also exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable about the area. It is 10 minutes walk to town and very close to a beach club. We'd definitely recommend this apartment and hope to return to it ourselves very soon.

“Idyllic location in Kalkan”

Reviewed 13 Sep 2014

This apartment is ideally located with stunning views over the bay and is equally beautiful at night, when you can see the whole town lit up. It is just a 10 minute walk into town and close to Palm Beach Club but bear in mind all of Kalkan is hilly, often steep and uneven. Taxis are cheap and readily available or you can take a water taxi to get to the beach clubs. The apartment itself is tastefully furnished; has a relaxing ambiance about it and is clean and well appointed. The kitchen is well equipped so you can eat in if you prefer, but you will almost certainly want to try some of the many superb restaurants. There is also a second shady side balcony which was very welcome in the heat of August and of course the pool. We took several dips a day and when we were there there was a friendly atmosphere poolside and plenty of sun-loungers. In summary, the sort of apartment that you are likely to want to come back to again and again.

“Really Superb - totally relaxing holiday!”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2014

Very impressed both with Kalkan and also the apartment. We have several criteria that makes a good holiday for us ... the quality of the accomodation, quiet and sandy beaches and good local food - this trip ticked all of the above. The apartment was really lovely, clean and spacious, very nicely furnished and with outstanding views. The owners went to great lengths to ensure that our stay was really excellent. Only a 20 minute drive from the apartment to 17 km of sandy and clean beaches - bliss! We also used a really good beach club which was a 5 minute downhill walk from the apartment. Kalkan itself is a 10 minute walk away from the apartment and is gorgeous with narrow cobbled streets and fabulous shops. The restaurants offer excellent local cuisine at reasonable prices and we can definately recommend the local rose wine. A gem of a holiday!

“Glorious views in extreme comfort!”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2013

The owners of this property provided so much useful information before we travelled that we knew we would fit straight in. The transfers were seamless and very comfortable. Arrived at night and woke to the most amazing views! The apartment is very well equipped with everything we needed and more. Aircon. was a god-send, being hot in August, beds very comfortable. Everything was pristinely clean, the owners obviously love their apartment. Kalkan is beautiful with the most restaurants in a town that we have every seen. All authentic, no English fry ups or bucket and spade brigade here! Loads to do to entertain our 9 and 12 year old children. Locals are very friendly. Just far enough out of the busy evening scene and close enough to comfortably walk into the centre (took us 10-15mins with the view to enjoy along the way). Taxi's are cheep if you overindulge and can't walk back! Local supermarket offered free delivery so it was easy to stock up the kitchen. Pool is not huge but definitely big enough to swim a few lengths and for the children to play. We often had it to ourselves! No shallow end so I wouldn't recommend it for very young children. The apartment has 4 sun beds and an umbrella allocated to it by the pool. Would we go back? Absolutely yes!

“What a fantastic location”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2013

We spent two weeks in the apartment between June 20 and July 4 2013. The apartment catered for all our needs. The views from the apartment overlooking Kalkan Bay are stunning. Breathtaking! The apartment was comfortable and catered for all our needs. The side section was a must, as it was so cool in the heat of the day. The pool was clean and inviting and very peaceful.

“Amazing stunning views and apartment to die for”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2012

We have just stayed in Kalkan Breeze for 5 weeks and 3 weeks we had friends to join us and they said they have never been in anywhere like it. We have fantastic views from the apartment which look over snake and mouse island. One of the most spectacular views is sitting on the balcony watching the sunset. We are going back next year for 6 weeks. Highly recommended

“Lovely apartment - fabulous location”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2012

We stayed in 'Kalkan Breeze' for a week with our 3 teenage chlidren and couldn't have asked for a better holiday. The apartment is beautifully furnished, extremely comfortable and has the most spectacular view across the bay towards Kalkan town. Caroline's pre-holiday info was really helpful and her Information Book in the apartment explains everything very clearly with all relevant info included. We used the pool every day - hardly anyone there so most of the time we had it to ourselves. We did meet the other tenants in the apartment block, all very friendly and it was good to exchange where to eat/where to visit etc. The nearest beach is Palm Beach Club where you can hire sunbeds and the cafe there serves good food; the staff are all exceptionally friendly and the water is clear blue and warm. Heaven! There is a diving platform and a trampoline anchored about 100 yards out which provides a bit of interest. We ate out on a few occasions. There is certainly no shortage of good places to eat. Would recommend Sofra's and Authentic for excellent food and service, and Fener Cafe if you want something cheaper. The town is buzzing in the evening - our older teenagers had a few good nights at Mojitos as well as Chocolate Bar. Would highly recommend this apartment to anyone considering a holiday in Kalkan.

“Kalkan Breeze”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2012

Kalkan Breeze is a lovely, clean and well furnished apartment. It is in an ideal location, a five minute walk down to the Palm Beach Club or a ten to fifteen minute stroll down into the centre of town. The apartment is part of a small block which is managed by an English speaking local who will sort out any queries you may have or organize any excursions that take your fancy. Kalkan has fantastic restaurants which offer superb rooftop dining complimented by excellent cuisine. After dinner you can relax in any of the numerous bars in town and then catch a cab home for a few pounds if you are feeling lazy! My family and I had a fantastic time in Kalkan and would definitely recommend staying in Kalkan Breeze.

“Fab apartment in a lovely area- amazing views!”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2012

We have stayed at the apartment sevarl times over the last few years normally around May/June. caroline organises our airport transfers and its much cheaper than getting one straight from the airport! The apaartment is clean and bright and has pleanty of space- we normally go in a group of four but last year we had 5 and still had pleanty of room! it has everything you need including a list of places to go and restuarants to try. the balcony at the front is lovely and the one on the side is fab for getting out the sun for lunch. The pool area is generally quiet and normally we are the only people by it most of the day. The town is only 10mins walk but the is a shop closer who will deliver the water for you so you dont need to carry it! the locals are all so helpful and friendly and always keen to try out thier english! There are great boat trips from the harbour which we highly recomend as the island is so beautiful! It's a great apartment in a great location, you can make it as relaxing or as fun filled as you like!
