Description

"Colores en el Viento" is the name of this romantic cottage, hidden away about 4 kilometres north of Frigiliana, in a forest setting. If you're looking for an escape with your lover, then we'd highly recommend this jewel where you will enjoy a stay surrounded by nature. There is a spacious garden with barbecue, a private pool and the inside is decorated with great flair by its owners. What's the story behind the name? Keep reading and we'll tell you...

When Damian, the owner, contacted us for promotion of his cottage he didn't mention anything about the name. Instead, he sent us a couple of pictures which we liked a lot and we agreed to visit the house in the autumn of 2009. That day, he picked us up in the village of Frigilana and accompanied us for a beautiful 10 minute drive through the mountains. The access has some pronounced curves but doesn't give any problems as the track is fully surfaced with concrete. Once there, we were impressed

Once there, we were impressed by the delightful location where this cortijo hides: one of the prettiest valleys in the area that borders with Sierra Tejada Natural Park. Although it may seem you are far from the sea here, the beaches of Nerja (9 kms) are only 20 minutes drive away. The cottage is set on generous grounds that belong to the family, with a few more houses that all have their own privacy. From the beginning, Damian and his wife had very clear that they wanted to respect the surrounding nature and integrate the house in the ambiance. And they did succeed: the cottage is surrounded by pine trees, aromatic plants and centennial olive trees that are cultivated ecologically. With the enchanted valley as a background, you will find the private pool (9x4m) surrounded by a charming terrace with elegant furniture. The garden and pool area are made with natural stones and wood and surrounded by trees, giving it a very Mediterranean touch. From the living room, French doors open onto the "green tiled terrace" - the perfect spot for enjoying your breakfast and dinner while you dream away with the magnificent views on the landscape. The colourful Moroccan table at the entrance of the house sets the ambiance for relaxation and it is here where the name of the house appears. Asked for the significance of "Colores en el viento", Damian answers: "if you are able to appreciate the beautiful gifts of nature and enjoy them as a moment of happiness, then you have found the "Colours in the Wind".

Location description from manager

The Andalucia region

Coming to Malaga Province and Costa del Sol is seeing beautiful landscapes, tasting delicious food, and experiencing the warmth of people. It's also discovering a rich cultural heritage, fabulous beaches and coastal sites, and charming hinterland villages. There's a place for every traveller in Malaga. Find yours!

Ancient and cosmopolitan Malaga in the past still retains its historic roots intact. In long-gone times it bore witness to the origins of man and of the Mediterranean culture, and is today the primary force in the Andalusian tourist industry, keeping alive its tradition of a welcoming and creative land.

Maritime Malaga on the coast where winter never comes; and with a mountain vocation inland, where nature is displayed in all its splendour. White villages with their attractive architecture, wrapped in romantic legend, bring points of light into secluded valleys where life goes by peacefully. And from the peaks of the mountains you can watch the horizon until it becomes lost in the immense blue of the sea.

On the Costa del Sol there are lots of discos, night clubs, and casinos set up for evening entertainment, whereas golf courses mushroomed like in no other place in Europe. Complementary products emerged too –water parks, theme parks, fun resorts– and new segments began to develop: meetings, incentives, conferences and events, cultural tourism, and hinterland travel, first in Serranía de Ronda and Axarquía, then in Antequera and Valle del Guadalhorce.

The growth of the eastern part of the Costa del Sol –most of it included in Axarquía, a region with a clear al-Andalus legacy– was less spectacular but no less important. The best known town in the area, Nerja, became popular after the discovery of a stunning, unusually big cave in the nearby district of Maro in 1959.

The cave (which hosts an international dance and music festival every year in July), adding up to the wonderful landscapes of sierras and cliffs, earned a place for Nerja and its environs in the world tourism scene. The “Cueva de Nerja” International Festival (which turned 50 in 2009) is a must-attend, drawing renowned musicians, dancers, singers, and flamenco artists.

Better connected after the development of the Mediterranean highway, the Eastern Costa del Sol is one of the most interesting places to visit in Malaga Province.

Frigiliana

As is the case with many other villages, Frigiliana dates back to Roman times but owes its urban design to the Moslem occupation.

Perched like a balcony on the slopes of the Sierra Almijara, it offers one of the prettiest and most spectacular views of the Costa del Sol.

Apart from its beauty, the village boasts places of great interest, such as Las Hoces del Higueron, and buildings such as the sugar mill, formerly the Count of Frigiliana"s Palace, where the famous sugar cane honey is made.

“Paradise!”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

We returned last week from Colores de Viento and we can't recommend it highly enough. We've stayed in the region a few times now and this was by far the best. The location was tranquil, set in the hills a short drive from the picturesque town of Frigiliana. You can't really walk here from the property so you need a car, and you need to be a confident driver to navigate the paved road down to the property and back up. However having stayed in other properties where the road was equally as challenging, but not paved, we found this one a kind of luxury! I can't rate the property highly enough. It was stylish, comfortable, well equipped, and surpassed our expectations. The kitchen was complete with everything you could need - I mean EVERYTHING. The tranquility offered by the pool side is truly unreal, as well as the picturesque terrace where we took our meals. Stunning. The owners were courteous and polite and even left us homemade olive oil and fresh "home-laid" eggs. All in all if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, breathtaking getaway then this is the place. It's my idea of Paradise.
