Very Good

“What a Gem!”

Reviewed 28 Oct 2016

This little cottage has everything you need for a lovely relaxing holiday. There are two patios both furnished with table and chairs and sun loungers in the private garden. There is sun or shade, whichever you prefer, throughout the day The pool is superb, it's a good size, heated, extremely clean and the views from the terrace are just beautiful. The pool terrace has a variety of seating/loungers and again in September we were able to find shade when we needed it. The surrounding countryside is really beautiful and the views from high up in the pretty bastide towns are stunning. The owners Tony and Jane are so welcoming and friendly. They will leave you to yourselves if you prefer but if you are happy to chat, so are they.

Owner's reply: Thanks for a lovely review, so glad you enjoyed your stay here.

You are made to feel welcome the minute you arrive. This property is attached to the owners house but you have a full sense of privacy, with your own entrance and private garden. Jane and Tony have great suggestions of where to go and what to enjoy in the area. The night markets are a must. Also the golf course that is a few minutes away is a wonderful place to spend a few hours. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and felt extremely comfortable the whole time. Tony and Jane are tremendous hosts and you come away feeling like you have made lovely new friends. This Gite is excellent value for money.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely review, Kerry. We really hope that you will soon be back here in the beautiful Lot et Garonne. Regards Jane

“A fabulous relaxing week with great company.”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2016

We returned to Tony & Jane's piece of paradise after visiting the first time in 2012. This time was even better, with great accommodation, great company from the hosts, great weather and the fabulous quiet relaxing location. We spent every day of our week relaxing by the large pool, taking in the peace and quiet and hot sun. We visited some excellent restaurants recommended by Tony & Jane with La Tete D'Ail at Cancon being superb and very recommended. Do not miss this one. Also visited 3 night markets, which are also a must do for the proper French experience. A big thanks to you both for another great holiday and we will be back.

Owner's reply: Thank you both for such a great review and a most enjoyable week. It was a pleasure to have you stay at St Valentin and we are looking forward to seeing you again. Kind regards Jane & Tony

“Excellent experience”

We have just returned from our second visit to St Valentin cottage, the first being in summer and the second in November. The accommodation is beautiful with everything a couple would need and the setting has spectacular views. In November it was delightfully warm and cosy. It is ideally situated to explore this area of France. Tony and Jane are excellent hosts and are full of informative and useful suggestions of things to do and places to see. We would recommend both the area and the cottage and will be returning soon.

“Peaceful cottage in a great part of France- A perfect Honeymoon!”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2011

We had the most amazing, relaxing, gastronomic, sun filled honeymoon at St Valentin Cottage. The gite is attached to the owner's house but is wonderfully private with its own garden facing the windmill of Coulx and we witnessed daily golden sunsets whilst sipping a chilled bottle of local wine each evening. We arrived in France thinking we would put in a lot of driving and explore the Lot and Dordogne but ended up staying by the pool and relaxing more often than not! After a hard day by the pool, we explored the local night markets which were a food lover's delight. They are a set up where local food producers present their produce around long tables where you can pick and mix between duck, foie gras, snails, mussels, oysters, steak, tomatoes, breads (the list is endless!). This is all washed down with local wine and we pulled out GCSE French vocab from our memories to converse with friendly local people. Tony and Jane are the owners of the gite and live in a house next door. They were very friendly and struck exactly the right balance of being helpful and informative yet leaving us to enjoy our holiday in the cottage. The lovely pool is shared with them and they tended to use it in the early evening and so due to our laziness, we spent most of the day alone on the sun loungers. The local area is beautiful and there is a boulangerie in Tombeboeuf (5 minutes away) for fresh croissants and bread each day. We would thoroughly recommend St Valentin Cottage for a relaxing holiday and we are already planning to go back!

if you are a couple looking for peace and quiet in a wonderful location, then look no further. the cottage is extremely comfortable, clean, with everything you need to make it a home from home. it is in a wonderful spot with superb views and sunsets to die for.the owners live next door and are extremely friendly ,but not intrusive and are full of valuable information for those who want to move further than the pool. after more than 20 years of self catering holidays in France...this is definately one for re-visiting, again and again.
