Charming, rural two hundred year old house cut into a rock on a mountain ridge with pool, stunning views, aircon and home comforts.

Secluded and very peaceful. Surrounded by stunning mountains and countryside yet near to restaurants, shops, beach and the airport. Our friends run a B & B two mins walk away offering gourmet cooking, even a BBQ delivery service. So if you want a break from cooking, fancy a cocktail before dinner or have nothing in for breakfast, no problemo! Fully catered option also available.


Access is from a short, well-paved and quiet track off the main road from Riogordo. Enter the property via a private gate and short drive with parking. Walk through a cutting in the rock into the glorious pool area with shaded terrace for eating and plenty of room for sunbathing, reading and dreaming while you gaze out at the mountains.


Casa Luna is about two hundred years old (nobody is quite sure!) and unique in that it is built into a rock. You enter through a cutting in the middle of a spectacular ridge. The traditional converted Andalucian farmhouse has thick whitewashed walls, beamed ceilings in the bedrooms and an old bodega (winery) in a cave, now used as a store room.


Cosy sitting room with TV, open fire for winter and aircon for summer with double sofa-bed. Eat-in kitchen with microwave and fridge freezer.


Two spacious bedrooms, one with King Bed plus single, one with twin beds (can be triple). Family bathroom with powerful shower, toilet and sink.


This large space on the first floor landing next to the bathroom has a comfy double sofa bed and can serve as a third bedroom.


Wonderful huge terraces next to the pool. Sun and shade all day. Watch the sun and moon rise from the pool! Sun loungers and outdoor table and chairs provided.


There are two extra buildings off the terrace: a large utility room with toilet, bath, washing machine and drying space and storage for outdoor furniture etc. The second outhouse is the old wine cellar. This is dug out of the rock & has been converted into a lovely bunk room (wooden bunks crafted by local carpenter) suitable for adults or children.


Below the house we have a collection of vines (cared for by the local goat herd) and orange, lemon, almond and avocado trees.

Getting around

It's probably best to hire a car. Roads are very good and rarely busy. In fact I love driving in this area - the scenery is spectacular & you rarely have trouble with parking or traffic jams. The local village is a five minute drive away. There's a lovely bar/restaurant a few minutes drive away too and the beach is an easy and scenic 30 minute drive. There are also beautiful mountain and river walks to be had from the house in all directions.

Interaction with guest

We are always available by text/email. Our friends, Paul & Niki (who live 4 minutes walk away) run a B & B. They take care of the pool, keep the keys and can sort out any problems. They can also provide barbecue packs, local knowledge & gourmet dinners when not too busy!

Peaceful , quiet, private, great pool ,house has everything we need and more. Total relaxation . Not too far from amenities. Would definitely recommend this property.

Ideally situated between the mountains and the sea yet only 50 minutes from the airport, this rustic house is an ideal getaway. We really had a good rest.

We loved this house and this region of Andalucia and hope to return very soon. It's the perfect place to come if you want to be deep in nature but also near to airport, shops, cafes, beaches etc. The house is extremely peaceful, secluded and secure with beamed ceilings, comfy beds and a lovely kitchen. But it's the outdoor space which is really special. We spent hours just lounging by the pool and gazing at the amazing views. It was tricky to get my wife off her sun lounger but we did manage a day trip to a local beach and to Córdoba, a beautiful city. The axarquia region is stunning, easily accessible and relatively undiscovered. Much nicer than the Costa and such a joy to drive on empty roads! Eating out is very good value, despite the exchange rate! We went to Bar Ortega, a few mins drive away and there is a great B & B a few minutes away owned by friends of the owners who do very good meals, including breakfast. Communication with Craig and Mel was great from the off. All in all, highly recommended.
