Plus, the lifeguard patrol makes it ideal for families.

For a quieter beach experience, all you have to do is follow the sand eastwards towards the more tranquil Los Alamos where the beach-going crowds begin to thin out.

Something for everyone

If you have the kids in tow, be sure to take them the short 3km to Tivoli World, the Costa del Sol’s famous theme park. Packed full of rides, restaurants, live entertainment and even activities for the very little ones, it will accomplish that rare feat of keeping the whole family happy for the day.

The same can be said for Aqualand, with its exciting water rides, slides and even wave machines to try out. The aquarium at nearby Benalmadena is also certainly worth a visit. You’ll discover all manner of fascinating sea creatures from starfish to sharks.

If you have a taste for creatures fiercer than starfish, then Europe’s only crocodile park is a must-visit when you’re in Torremolinos. The park contains around 300 of the reptiles.

The simple life

Should you find yourself in need of a break from the undeniable buzz of Torremolinos, head west along the coast to La Carihuela. Not only does this town still retain some of its traditional charm but, with fishing boats and beautiful houses, it’s arguably the best place near Torremolinos for sample the speciality pescaíto.

Alternatively, discover the area’s cultural and historic interest by visiting the mountains just behind the resort where prehistoric human skulls were found. Or seek out the 15th century architecture of the Tower of Pimentel.
