The Andalucia region
Once Spain´s poorest region, Andalucia - and specifically the provinces of Malaga, Granada and Seville - is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, thanks to its sandy beaches, beautiful countryside, spectacular mountain ranges, fabulous monuments and high-spirited people who live life to the full and are well known for their exuberance, warmth and hospitality.
Andalucia is also home of flamenco and bullfighting, which can be best enjoyed at the region´s countless ferias and romerias.
But perhaps the most unique feature of this enchanting region are the remnants of its Moorish past. The Moors were a mixture of Berbers and Arabs who crossed into Spain from North Africa by the Straits of Gibraltar and occupied the peninsula - which they called al Andalus - for more than seven centuries, dating from 710 when they first landed in Tarifa. Within a mere four years they had virtually conquered the entire country, although they soon withdrew to the southern part of the peninsula, where they established, in the towns of Cordoba, Seville and Granada, one of the most sophisticated civilisations of the Middle Ages. Each of these Andalucian capitals boasts spectacular remains of their monuments, the most unforgettable of which is, undoubtedly, Granada's Alhambra palace.
Comares is the highest village in the beautiful area of the Axarquia. The area is steeped in history and the village of Comares has been described as the hidden gem of the Axarquia. Everywhere you look the views are breathtaking, over the countryside down to the sparkling blue sea of the Mediteranean. The village is 5 minutes, by car, from the villa and here you will find lovely restaurants, shops, a bakery, 2 banks, a chemist and a doctors. Comares has recently re-introduced the Donkey taxi and these can be hired from 1 hour up to half a day to include lunch or breakfast. Watch the sunrise over the sea and the Mountains, whilst trekking in the countryside.
From Comares it is easy to visit Granada, Seville, Ronda and Cordoba. The famous caves of Nerja are one hours drive and the glitzy areas of Marbella and Puerta Banus are within reach for a day trip. The weather in this part of Spain is good all year round. We enjoy beautiful summers, spring is a joy and during Autumn and Winter it never gets very cold. The villa has a fireplace as in the winter the evenings are obviously colder. The swimming pool can also be heated so you can swim all year round.

"Wonderful point of departure to visit the whole Axarquia!"
This house is perfect to just relax in a calm village, that has everything you need (super market, pharmacy, restaurants, bars). And the village Comares is a perfect point of departure to visit the whole Axarquia, go hiking, chill at the beautiful beaches, go shopping and see the cultural sights in Malaga. May was a perfect month for travelling, because the weather was not too hot for trips, but the sea had already 20 degrees. All participants of this holiday were extremely satisfied - kids, middle-agers and also the grandparents. The house is very good value for money! We made a special BBQ and fitness work out on the roof top :) - with stunning views. We definitely recommend a car for this region. Thanks a lot!
You are very welcome. See you again,we hope. Best Wishes Linda y José
