A two villa property with a pool and plenty of terrace space to relax and enjoy the stunning views. Each villa sleeps six and during the summer we rent them as one block, perfect for two families. Each villa is well equipped, and private - and rents alone in the cooler months - the other villa will then be closed - giving you access to the pool and terrace just for yourselves. The villas are well appointed, with a homely feel. There's plenty of space inside to kick back; while on the terrace there is a 15 seat table under our grape vines - a fantastic spot for a long lazy lunch or the evening barbecue.
Surrounded by olive and almond trees it is the perfect place to relax and soak up the charm of one of Andalusia's most uncrowded white hilltop villages which commands the property from on high. Comares is a twenty minute walk uphill and has restaurants, bars, a supermarket for daily necessities and a couple of banks. In spring, the wildflowers carpet the hillsides and it is a perfect time to hike or cycle through the wonderful Axarquia comarca. Winter is cool but generally dry and our log burners will keep you toasty. The ski slopes of Sierra Nevada - open until April are under 2 hours away. Ski for the morning and sunbathe the afternoon. So if you think Spain is only for the summer, think again - there is so much to do around the village; and at any time of year it sparkles in the sunshine.
We can arrange spa treatments, horseback riding and a host of other activities. If you need catering for that family party please let us know. There's plenty of information in the villas and the housekeeper can provide some local advice.
Velez Malaga is a 30 minute drive away and the kids can enjoy the waterpark while you stock up on everything you could need for your stay in the malls located just over the motorway. Just a little further on are the beaches of the Mediterranean, but they can get pretty crowded in the summer, and down on the coast it is blistering hot. Enjoy the cool breezes, 700m up in the hills that surround La Zahurda - and enjoy the tranquility.
If it is a little of Andalusian culture you are after, drive through the stunning pueblos blancos dotted throughout this region, and head on to the world famous Alhambra; a ninety minute drive away in Granada, and Sevilla is two hours. You can also get to Cordoba on the AVE from Antequera, and if you fancy on to Madrid.
It is just an hour's drive from Malaga Airport through spectacular scenery to reach La Zahurda; you really do need a car but if that is not possible, we can organise for you to be picked up from the airport. There are flights to all sorts of destinations in Europe.
We hope you are tempted; read on for more details:
Each villa as a double room with an en suite, and two other bedrooms. In the casa - the main house, another double and a single of two twins share a large shower room. In the casita, there are two other bedrooms which both have twins which share the shower. So the complex will comfortably sleep 12. We have cots if necessary.
There is a fully equipped kitchen in each villa; a washing machine and wood burning stoves to use in the cooler months. We will ensure you have a reasonable stock of wood for your stay if needed. There are fans to cool you in the summer.
The casa has a large lounge room downstairs with an open fire; it opens out onto the terrace which has spectacular views down the valley. Here we have a large outdoor table; which is shaded by vines which produce plump sweet grapes. A few steps away is the pool; warmed by the sun and there are loungers and pool towels to use. The casita is on the other side of the pool and has its own private terrace above our boule court which nestles in the garden. Inside the casita, there is a more intimate lounge area which like the other villa has a TV and DVD player. The entire property has wifi which we provide free for reasonable - and legal - activities!
In the immediate surrounds of the villas are local plants, which depending on the season might be in full flower. We tend these gardens but are seeking to have the surrounding orchards grow naturally. We have an almond orchard which in spring perfumes the air with scent and litters the area with pink blossom. Olives make up the bulk of our trees on the easterly terrace. Please feel free to roam about the orchards. You may spot figs, lemons, limes and the odd avocado if the rain gods have been good to us.
This is a fantastic place at any time of the year - overseeing as it does the near valley across to Cutar and down the valleys to the Mediterranean. It is supremely comfortable and we are sure you will have a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
