Set amongst ancient oak woodland, Acorn Cottage has been described by our repeat guests as 'home from home'. This charming, modern, architect designed semi detached property is perfectly situated to allow you to relax in the tranquility of the highlands.

Panoramic upstairs lounge windows look out across the Caledonian Canal, Aonach Mor and Nevis Range ski centre. The imposing north face of Ben Nevis itself is visible beyond from the garden where Woodpeckers, Jays, Goldfinches, Nuthatches and Siskins are among the numerous species who visit the garden feeders. Buzzards and eagles soar overhead, deer peer through the rhododendrons and pine martens hide in the shadows. All this even before leaving the comfort of this spacious well presented accommodation.

Acorn Cottage is ideal for families and couples alike and offers the perfect base for exploring Lochaber, Isle of Skye, Glencoe, Loch Ness and the West Coast. The comfort of two bedrooms offered by Acorn Cottage is ideal if you are a party of four or like a little bit extra space for your holiday, however, we can now offer Little Oaks (property ID 8768828) as a one bedroom apartment with king size bed within our grounds for couples or single travellers who want the same quality accommodation on a slightly smaller scale.

Whether you enjoy the white beaches of Morar Sands, Sea Kayaking around the idyllic seclusion of Arisaig, or high adrenalin pursuits of white water rafting near Ballachulish, Fort William the 'Outdoor Capital of the UK has something to offer guests of all ages.

Take an unforgettable trip on the Jacobite steam train made famous in the Harry Potter films or take a short ferry crossing to Mull, Iona, Ardnamurchan and Skye. Spot eagles on Loch Shiel or try your luck at whale/dolphin watching near Oban, For more active visitors, the area is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise, with world cup mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding and high ropes adventure only a short drive and cable car ride away.

Fort William boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland, with walking, climbing and cycling all year round. Walks are available to suit all abilities. Whether it be the long distance upon the West Highland Way or Great Glen Way, or the highest mountain in Scotland. We offer bike storage, an option to connect the two single beds together to make a second double bed and seasonal decoration of the cottage at Christmas.

Guests are advised that the downstairs bedroom has an ensuite, whilst the upstairs open plan plan living area provides access to both the master bedroom and adjacent bathroom.

Getting around

As we are about 6 miles away from the centre of Fort William, a car is essential. Acorn Cottage is a rural destination, so personal transport is a must to do the area justice, allowing you to explore off the beaten track and visit the nearby attractions. There are bus routes to Inverness, Skye & Oban and train links to Glasgow & Mallaig, all accessed from the bus/train station in Fort William.

Very Good

“Remembrance Weekend stay”

We chose Acorn Cottage as the base for our stay over Remembrance weekend. Ideally situated for visiting Achnacarry Castle (Commando Training base), the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge and Fort William. The cottage is finished to a high standard, is spotlessly clean and in a beautiful location. We would have no issue with coming back or recommending to others. The only observation I would make is that the Twin bedroom on the ground floor is ensuite whilst the Double Bedroom on the first floor, where the open plan kitchen/living room is, is not. The double bed was delightfully comfortable and sleep was long and deep. Bed linen was great quality (in keeping with the rest of the accommodation). The only change I would make would be to provide Bath sheets rather than the smaller towels which, along with hand towels, were provided. The views of the Nevis Range, from the living room window was amazing, as was the delicious lemon drizzle cake, home baked by the owner.

“Beautiful house great location”

The owners were very accommodating and helpful. The house is in a lovely location and it is obvious that a lot of time, thought and money has been spent on it build and the equipment provided. Could certainly recommend this location and house.

“What a wonderful cottage; amazing.”

Set in its own bit of heaven, on arrival Kate made us feel like old friends greeted with a lovely smile and a delightful lemon drizzle cake. The cottage was spotless but at the same time allowed you to feel totally relaxed. Never mind the rain, we had a fantastic time . Castles to visit , lochs to take trips on, distilleries to float around and a wonderful trip to Skye.

Our stay at Acorn cottage could not have been better, from the moment we met our host Kate we knew we had made the right choice. The location was most suitable for exploring all areas of Lochaber. The cottage and gardens were a credit to our hosts Kate & Malcolm who took a pride in looking after their guests. On arrival our tour of the delightful cottage and an insight to the immediate locality and amenities was very helpful.It is always helpful when the owner lives close by and was willing to help in any way to ensure our stay was five star in every way.We left after not only having a great time at Banavie, but also felt we had made new friends. We look forward to a return visit in the future. Well done to Kate & Malcolm for their efforts at Acorn Cottage.

Acorn Cottage is set in a peaceful rural location. We found it very clean and well equipped every thing we needed for a wonderful holiday. The lemon drizzle cake was very welcome on our arrival and the red squirrel kept us amused

“Fantastic Holiday Cottage”

This is a very spacious and well appointed holiday cottage. Just out from Fort William set in the country side. We stayed with our son and daughter in law and the accomodation was made up with two king size beds which was ideal. The cottage has all the facilities that one needs for a stay and the Internet is very good. The closest resturant is about 2 miles and is excellent and walkable for those energetic people. Kate is very helpful suggesting things to do and places to see. Overall an excellent cottage.

“Superb get away”

Accommodation was of a very high standard. the owners extremely helpful, on hand but unobtrusive. venue great for birdlife watching-buzzard in near trees, spotted woodpeckers, siskins, coaltits etc..... encouraged by the owner constantly replenishing food supply! deer also seen from the lounge! centrally placed for many places of interest and in easy reach of Skye and isles. scenery spectacular and views of Ben Nevis through the trees from the lounge. Neptunes staircase, on the caledonian canal, just 5 minutes from the house and well worth visiting. The jacobite steam train also passes nearby and well worth a day trip to Mallaig from nearby Fort William. A superb weeks holiday. three very happy visitors will certainly return.
