Description from owner

Description

"Real Italian country life, very comfortable house, fantastic pool." (Guest 2018)

Al Palazz is set in a tiny hillside village, with wooded walks, rock pools, a well-rated small restaurant, and church bells that chime Ave Maria at dinner-time. It is just outside the charming medieval Tuscan town of Bagnone, with the Cinque Terre and major cities in easy reach.

Guests love the private heated salt-water pool and poolside dining area, set in extensive landscaped gardens. There are wonderful views over wooded valleys to Bagnone castle and the mountains beyond, with many different spots to relax in comfort.

Guests describe the villa as “spacious”, “comfortable”, “lovingly restored”. They highlight the well-equipped kitchen, the spectacular views, the amenities –free wifi throughout, library, DVDs, games, fresh herbs and salads in the garden, private parking.

Al Palazz sleeps up to six in great comfort. It works well for families, for up to three couples, and multi-generation groups.

The villa has two double bedrooms and two well-appointed bathrooms, two sitting areas, and a traditional Tuscan kitchen and dining room. If required, a third luxury double bedroom/bathroom, plus kitchen and dining/sitting areas, can be added in the inter-connected ground-floor apartment La Cantina. (Note: the apartment is never let separately when guests are in the villa.)

"The garden and pool area are just so beautiful we lived outdoors." (Guest 2016)

The totally secluded 11m x 4m solar-heated salt-water pool is warm from late May to late September. There are sun loungers, and fully equipped changing-rooms and shower-rooms, and WC.

A covered terrace with summer kitchen and dining facilities, including sink, fridge, all tableware, and large Weber gas BBQ - and table tennis - overlooks the pool

The acre of private landscaped gardens has three large paved terraces, furnished with comfortable LaFuma recliner chairs, a swing seat, small and large tables and chairs. There’s sun and shade and spectacular views throughout the day. The whole area can be gently lit at night for magical evenings looking out at the stars.

"We loved eating at the old farm Vecchio Podere across the street." (Guest 2018)

Al Palazz offers you a true taste of real Italian life.

The villa is historic, dating from the 14th century, with wood beams, vaulted ceilings, stone walls and terracotta floors. The ‘big house’ of the village (al palaz in dialect), it was once the summer home of a local noble family.

Just across the square is a small farm restaurant which offers traditional lunches and dinners. Just down the lane are rock pools and wooded walks. The pretty little town of Bagnone, with all services, is an easy stroll for coffee or shopping. All around are medieval castles, tiny towns and villages, with weekly markets, family-run restaurants, and seasonal food festivals.

Guests say the villa makes an excellent base for sightseeing too: the Cinque Terre and Italian Riviera are under an hour away, and Lucca, Pisa, Florence Parma, Genoa are all easy days out by train or car.

“You won’t find a more authentic Tuscany countryside experience.” (Guest 2014)

There are good train services from nearby stations in Villafranca-Bagnone, Aulla and Pontremoli. A taxi service can be booked. It's possible to spend a relaxing week at Al Palazz and walk, swim, eat and shop locally (Bagnone is just 20 minutes down the hill); but most guests do prefer to have a car so that they can explore further afield.
