This 70s house in the center of Athens has been transformed with respect to its original character into a retreat-style home with indoor spaces that merge for year-round enjoyment. It’s a 50 sq. m. flat capturing the essence of the current trend in home décor totally leaning towards a 70s and 80s vibe.

The desired contemporary ‘open concept’ was achieved with a complete redesign of the interior connecting the expanded kitchen with the living area. Dealing with various issues of the original kitchen, there are more cupboards with self-closing drawers, granite tiles and brand new inox built in electric devices. In a neat trick, it manages to be completely functional without sacrificing its free-flowing space aesthetic. An unexpected pop of a look-at-me floor lamp on the corner updates the style with casual retro factory-chic design taking center stage! It is certainly a bold remodel!

Bathroom went also from boring to glam. All the old plumbing lines were replaced and it was reconfigured to allow for a custom made shower cabin; a perfect partner for the retro bronze geometric tiles. And there's just something so luxurious about its rainfall shower-head: it is softer and less grating, making each shower feel like a special occasion, not an obligation. Dramatic colors and flashy fixtures spice things up to have you feeling like you are on location at a five-star resort. It's the perfect place to go lux!

A contemporary smoky grey hued bedroom features the main character of a classic bed with a fabric headboard and a striped bedspread. The queen-size bed commands attention in a space designed as a romantic getaway. The inspiration for this fabulous headboard was sleek sophistication with a healthy dose of comfort. Not only creates a wonderfully comfortable surface for reading in bed, but the pattern repetition adds purpose and style to its decoration. Morocco gold-brass round side tables double as nightstands while on their mirrored top eclectic lamps with soft lighting add simple lines to the room. These little sculptural tables although eye catching do not take up all that much visual space and they have such a unique shape and color adding just the right amount of glint. Their damask pattern lends drama and continues the room's focus on romantic design. Fuzzy pillows and plenty of white bed linens ensure this bedroom is always nice and cozy. The original wood floor has been refinished and a wall of streamlined built-ins provides an adequate storage solution.

Living room is accented with beautiful wheat and grey hues and natural light. Both eclectic and modern, this living area features multiple spots to take a seat. Patterns combine with clean-lined furniture to create a dynamic living space. With varying styles and materials, chairs and lounge become an artistic expression in the room. The animal-print rugs along with the patterned decorative throw pillows add a little funk while the TV occupies an unobtrusive space on the back wall. Framed black and white illustrations add a classic touch, while white porcelains help maintain eclectic feeling. Elegant furnishings and eye-catching lighting accents create a welcoming ambiance for socializing or relaxing.

Getting around

During the 19th century Ampelokipoi was dotted in the maps only for some cottages of rich Athenians built within olive groves, citrus trees and vineyards. Because of the benign climate and the mild weather conditions many hospitals were built in the late 19th century as well as in the beginning of 20th. Nowadays Red Cross is based in Ampelokipoi among many public and private hospitals which make the place ideal for Medical Tourism. A great part of the area was also occupied by military camps and, particularly the district of Goudi has been repeatedly associated with military coups attempting interference in the local political scene.
