Location description from owner
The Ross and Cromarty region
Enjoy the spectacular views from the comfort of the house or venture out - this wonderful corner of Scotland has something for everyone:
Wildlife lovers can take a boat trip to the Summer Isles from Achiltibuie and see many species of sea birds, a seal colony and a chance to see dolphins swim in your wake. Otters are often seen along the shoreline and the hills are home to eagles, lizards and hares.
Walkers - take a short - or long walk in the Inverpolly National Nature Reserve. At nearly eleven thousand hectares it is the second largest reserve in Britain and is home to some of Scotland's most stunning mountain landscapes. Stac Pollaidh, Canisp and Suilven are among the dramatic peaks here.
To the north the John Muir Trust owned Quinag estate provides superb wilderness walking, while the peninsula's own Ben Mor Coigach and surrounding mountains offer challenging mountain terrain and unsurpassed views of the Summer Isles.
Rock enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to Knockan Crag where the history of geology and the more ancient history of the landscape meet, or a boat trip from Kylesku down Loch Glencoul to view Britain's highest waterfall taking in the sea and bird life along with the spectacular geological features.
Further activities nearby include golf at Ullapool, sea kayaking or sailing at the Summer Isles sailing school, caving at Inchnadamph, rock climbing at Reiff sea cliffs, fly-fishing, sea-angling, scuba-diving...
....and of course the beaches....
Badentarbet beach is a 10 minute walk from the house with the large expanse of Achnahaird beach a 5 minute drive.
Further afield near Lochinver, the white sands of Achmelvich beaches repay the drive along the "wee mad road" and are fantastic for swimming on a summer day.
In the village of Achiltibuie within walking distance of the house you will find Achiltibuie Stores (& fuel pumps) where you can also order locally caught seafood; the post office; a craft shop; the Piping school cafe, Achiltibuie Garden selling locally grown produce, and the renowned Sumer Isles Hotel with bar, bistro and formal restaurant providing a gourmet dining experience!
At Altandhu there is another excellent bar with great food at Am Fuaran. Both restaurants offer fantastic locally sourced seafood and garden produce.
Further afield the ferry port of Ullapool has many shops, cafes and restaurants; a tourist office; indoor swimming pool and climbing wall; cinema and large supermarket.
A trip to this delightful corner of Scotland would not be complete without visits to Lochinver and the beaches at Achmelvich, and Kylesku Hotel (for the food and views).

“Spacious, comfortable accommodation surrounded by spectacular Scottish scenery”
The property was wonderfully equipped, It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into making Quinag comfortable for guests. There was plenty of space for 6 adults and the mezzanine was an added bonus, space to escape and enjoy the views. My sister and her partner brought along Ben the dog who enjoyed frequent walks around the area as there was so much to explore. We also spent an enjoyable day at Achnahaird beach and went on the summer Isle cruise which I would recommend if you are in the area. I would also recommend visiting the Fuaran Bar if you fancy eating out, cakes at the Piping school cafe are also worth stopping for. There is a handy wee shop a couple of doors down from the house incase you forget anything. All in all everything you need for an enjoyable holiday
“Safety concern of locked front door”
Our holiday was not as we expected due to having to contact the owner several times, our main reason was due to the front door of this house being locked with no key available, the owner told us that she did not allow access to this door to any rental, but that she would arrange for a key to be delivered on this occassion, this she did BUT the key would not open this door !! The arrangement of the house with all bedrooms at the rear of the house and only access via the back door by the bedrooms caused problems with noise to those of the family that retired early ! Overall we were did not have the stress free holiday we had all antisipated.. Linda Custerson & family
Owner's reply: We do our utmost to ensure that all our guests have as enjoyable a stay as possible at Quinag. We recently trialled a policy of giving guests only a key to the side door as we were finding that the walls inside the front door were being damaged by luggage coming in and out. However in the light of feedback we are once again providing guests with keys to both doors.
“Fantastic accommodation in stunning highland location”
What a great find. The holiday starts with the fantastic scenery on the journey there. The modern house has large bright beautifully furnished rooms all with wonderful views. We ate out a couple of nights, both very welcoming and great value - a short stroll to the Summer Isles Hotel and a short drive to the Am Fuaran Bar at Polbain. We had some great walks all with breath-taking scenery and even had a dip in the sea in October! Highly recommended.
“Superbly equipped house in wonderful location”
For our mixed party (retired couple plus brother with learning difficulties, son and partner, other son) the house provided large comfortable rooms with, crucially, two seating areas with TVs. This meant that not everyone had to do the same thing. Beds were comfortable and the beautiful pictures around the house made it very homely and relaxing. The kitchen was small but reasonably well equipped and all instructions had been provided and were clear. We would have welcomed more large pans we self-catered most of the week). The house is close to the well stocked village shop, the post office and pub. The area has fantastic hill-walking, rock climbing and beaches, and the flora, fauna and geology are wonderful - what more could a person want?!
Owner's reply: Thankyou kindly for your review. I will certainly provide more large pots as per your recommendation!
“Superb location if you want to just get away from it all”
Excellent location for a crowd of folk who are interested in getting to know some remoter parts of Scotland. Brilliant for walking with dogs, enjoying fantastic scenery and eating great seafood. Weather was pretty inclement (very windy and quite a lot of rain) but it didn't stop us getting out and exploring the landscape.
Amazing, clean and very well equipped house. For 6 adults and one 15 month old the house was just perfect. Plenty of space inside and out and a short walk from the local pub/hotel. The bedrooms are very spacious and beds exceptionally comfortable. Although I thought the kitchen might be a little too small, the website actually doesn't do it justice - more than enough space to cook for all the guests. The garden provides great views of the Summer Isles and the snug upstairs was great for sitting with a whiskey while watching the sun go down. Shop nearby for essentials and the beach a 5 minute walk. Will certainly return. Never saw one midge till the day we left but plenty of otters down by the water. Head along the road to the cafe (10 max) for cake or a great bacon roll.
