“Excellent Gite, friendly and attentive owners” The Gite was excellent, spotlessly clean, homely with lovely welcome pack bread, cheese butter, tea, coffee, sugar and wine.
Sarah and Des were very friendly and offered very useful advice on places to see etc.
Sarah and Des's dogs are lovely. Good wi-fi access but might need to sit close to Sarah and Des's house at times, Good free sat TV if you want to keep in touch with news or favourite prog. The location is very tranquil. Saw owl in barn next to Gite, and during our stay on several occasions saw birds of prey. Definitely excellent place for a quiet retreat, we found sat nav very useful since we visited lots of towns and villages during our stay. Would recommend this Gite for a lovely getaway.
“The place was perfect for our large family gathering, suitable for all ages and tastes.” We wanted to rent somewhere peaceful for a large family celebration, where we would have space to come together yet be quiet if necessary. Grand Augue more than fulfilled our expectations and the group of 30, from 3 continents and ranging in age from 1 - 67 years old, were all very happy. The four houses are interesting and quirky and well equipped, and the grounds large and maintained. We loved the pool, gardens, the games area and being able to eat en masse in the large kitchen or outside. Quieter members found plenty of corners to snuggle up with their book or sketch pad.
Bob, the owner, was delightful to deal with and could not have been more helpful.
The local area provided many small towns and villages to explore by car or bike and we loved the markets, shopping, eating and the vineyard especially.
“A beautiful, rural location, pretty house set in lovely grounds with a great pool” This is a four bedroomed house. The finish and feel of the house is higher spec than the pictures suggest. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The only criticism would be that there is no genuine double bed - they are all singles pushed together, which meant my partner and I kept falling down the gap in the middle! The upstairs bedrooms are very pretty but have sloping ceilings so you can only stand up in part of the room. They are really pretty though, with all sorts of lovely, arty touches and beams which give them a nice feel. The fourth bedroom is a pretty, good sized single which is downstairs, next to a separate shower room and loo. The bedroom has doors straight out onto the courtyard. The downstairs is spacious with an open plan kitchen area, large dining area and lounge and is bigger than it seems from the pictures. You have a private courtyard with a pond where you can eat and enjoy the sun. The house is joined onto the owners' property on one side and another, smaller rental house on the other. The garden is huge and absolutely stunning with fruit treas and flowers and a beautiful view. The pool is gorgeous and a good size for the property. Matthew and Jillian are unintrusive but warm and friendly (we were welcomed with wine and home made bread and invited to help ourselves to veg and fruit from their garden) and we felt completely able to relax in the garden and pool. They offered us an opportunity to join in activities locally - we tried horseriding and archery - and were very helpful and informative about the local area. There are several very pretty towns and villages nearby as well as a health spa. The only other criticism would be that there was no washing machine working in the house (it had apparently broken shortly before our visit) so we had to ask our hosts to do washing for us, which was not ideal. It may be worth checking that this has been resolved if it was important to you. I have already recommended this rental to a friend - it is excellent value. Their smaller, two bedroomed property next door is also stunning. The area is easy to navigate and the drive from the airport (we drove from Bordeaux) was straightforward. We were a party of six, two seniors, my two kids and my partner and me. It worked really well for everyone.
“Relaxing Break” We were looking for somewhere to stay in the countryside to relax and chill for a few days and could not have asked for a better place to stay. My husband said “listen” once we unpacked the car, and I said “to what” and he said “nothing” it was so quiet all you could hear were the birds, the odd cow and a donkey which was somewhere around. The weather was not that kind to us the first couple of days so we just jumped in the car and drove round a few of the villages and took in the stunning countryside. The last two day the weather was very hot and if you did not like direct sun there were plenty of shaded areas under trees. Vicky and Barry make us very welcome and once they showed us where everything was left us to our own devises. The Cottage was very clean and comfortable with all utensils and cooking facilities required and if we needed anything that was not there we just had to ask. We got all our provisions from the local intermarche which had a good range of produce. Lovely Break thank you Vicky & Barry
“Excellent family farmhouse” We travelled with extended family and had a fabulous time. kids loved the den. Monique and Jean-claude who live next door are always there to help , They will even cook a meal for you ( we had a fab paella). Would recommend to famillies with children. The kids loved the pool. Can't wait to go back

“Quiet location - great pool!” We stayed for 2 weeks in June 2014 and had great weather throughout. The main attraction for us was the pool, which is solely for the use of the guests, and is a good size and in full sun all day. The property itself is quite small, but as it was just the two of us, this was not really a problem. The owners live next door and were available most of the time if we had any questions. We had a very relaxing break in a lovely quiet area of France.
“Thank you Barry, Sharon and of course Angus for a peaceful and refreshing stay.”

There were 12 of us in our group (some couples and some singles) and the chateau provided ample areas for us all to be together, plenty of space for smaller group gatherings and lots of little nooks for some alone time if desired.
Our group really likes food. We like everything about food! So how fortunate were we to be at this chateau in this incredible part of France? The people of this region live off the land and their products at the various open markets reflect their love of and pride in the food and products of their region.
The great kitchens at the chateau were spacious and well laid out and provided some of our best times. I say kitchens because there are 2 kitchens - one in the house and one at the pool/BBQ area. There are also 3 eating areas that easily accommodated the entire group - the dining room right across from the kitchen, the outside patio area just outside the kitchen and the fabulous arbor covered dining area in the pool/BBQ area. Needless to say our meals were fantastic and most of all ... FUN!
I know it sounds like we were totally immersed in "food" … well, maybe we were but we all took enough time to enjoy other wonderful aspects of the chateau: the pool - my personal favorite (I swam almost every day); the stable of bikes; the fruit trees - the plums were delicious; plenty of outside open area for games large and small; and, the Lot River with all it has to offer. Chateau Caillac truly offers something for everyone.
We found the chateau an its grounds to be a true reflection of the pictures on the website - all beautifully kept up. The house itself is clean, comfortable and well appointed, the pool is clean and inviting (even in October!) and the grounds are so well cared for.
I would be remiss if I ended this without giving a nod to Kim, "the housekeeper". Kim was at the chateau to welcome us and continued to be a wonderful resource throughout our stay. She was always just a phone call away. Thanks, Kim.
So, now I will end this review just the way I started … "Expectations Exceeded"
