Bulgaria is the cheapest holiday destination in Europe. Pamporovo is in the heart of the Rhodope mountains in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Resort altitude is 1650M with the Snejhanka peak at 1950M. Temperatures average a pleasant -3C, and the ski season generally lasts from mid December until early April. Average winter sunshine is 120 days. There is virtually no risk of avalanche. Pamporovo is one of the best resorts in the world for beginners and is good for intermediates although advanced skiers may find the challenges a bit lacking. It is a superb
resort for catering for families and children. Excellent tuition is available at inexpensive prices for beginners/children/snowboarding. For those wishing to use the nearby middle ski station of Studenets, we recommend the Aspen Ski School where the equipment is very up to date. For views and huge BBQ food we recommend The Black Horse at Studenets.
Apres ski action is excellent with all tastes catered for. We recommend the nightclubs at Forest Nook 3 - loud underground disco, Night Flight at Hotel Rosen. There is a casino and disco at the rear of the Hotel Murgavets. Superb Pub Grub at the White Hart Pub. Dave's Bar and BJ's Bar.
For extra special spa experiences try the Hotel Orlovetz and The Grand Monastery.
The nearby town of Smolyan has a cholice of excellent and inexpensive restaurants, such as the Rhodopsi Kat. You could also have a traditional Bulgarian evening out with staff dressed in Bulgarian national costume at the Bacchus restaurant.
The summer weather is superb around July, August and beginning of September with hardly any dull days and pleasant temperatures 19-24C.
The ski lifts run in summer and you can visit places such as the Smolyan Lakes by chair lift and can admire the fantastic scenery on the way. The chair lifts run at nearby Chepelare at weekends. There are plenty of places to visit such as the rock formations at The Wonderful Bridges and the karst rock formation at the Trigad Gorge. Here you will find The Devil's Throat Cave.
The Yagodina Cave has really spectacular stalagmites and stalactities and the cave is deep and miles wide and was used by Neolithic settlers. For those wanting more than rural splendor, there are many activities in which you may partake such as extreme sports, canoeing into caves, Via Ferrata, mountain biking, mountain hiking, quad biking, paintball, fishing and other excursions.
Horse riding is also available.
Bulgaria also has rare animals and rare flora and fauna. They still have wolves, brown bears and wild boars. Hunting of wild boar takes place in the autumn. Guides and excursions can be arranged.
There are places of historical interest nearby. Plovidv still has roman ruins and a Roman Amphitheatre still in use today, and a restored nineteeneth century
old town. The Bachkovo Monastery is a must see. There is a museum in nearby Smolyan - also a good place to buy leather boots/bags.
The nearest airport is Plovdiv 85km away. Ryanair and Charter flights fly into Plovidiv. Try the Charter flight Centre. Some people obtain flights to Sofia which is 250km. EasyJet fly into Sofia from London Gatwick, Glasgow and Manchester. Ryanair fly into Sofia from London Stansted, Birmingham and Dublin.
We recommend car hire. We can recommend psi-bg a firm which is reliable and very inexpensive with a good selection of cars, and will also do airport transfers but leave you with the car during your stay in Pamporovo. For larger groups wanting large 4x4, or minibus you could try Bulgaria Car Rent.
We have an Adventure Center at Pamporovo Village and this is an area of outstanding natural beauty and
history.
