The Yorkshire region

Northern England region

Yorkshire, the largest and most diverse county in England. Not without justification do Yorkshiremen call their county 'God's own country'. From the stunning countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park with it's rolling hills and valleys studded with beautiful villages and old market towns to the historic North Yorkshire coast with it's famous resorts of Whitby, Scarborough and Filey and the wild North York Moors, Yorkshire is packed with ancient castles, ruined abbeys and majestic stately homes of the aristocracy. No other county can match it for it's beauty and heritage.

York Riverside

York, the jewel in Yorkshire's crown, voted England's Favourite City, European tourism City of the Year. There is always something going on to surprise and delight the visitor. This beautiful old walled city has over 2000 years of history. York has been important to many invaders. Roman Fortress [Eboracum], home during the Roman occupation to the legendary Ninth Hispana and Sixth Victrix legions, Roman Emperors were acclaimed and died in this city. Viking Capital, [Jorvik], Viking Kings ruled from here. Norman stronghold, William The Conqueror fortified the city to subdue the rebellious North after the invasion of 1066. King George VI said 'The history of York is the history of England'.

The city is alive with history with every twist and turn of its narrow streets, York Minster, the ancient 'Shambles', Cliffords Tower, Merchant Adventurers Hall, Kings Manor, Treasurers House, Yorvik Viking Centre, the list goes on. World class horse racing, superb museums [the Yorkshire Museum, Castle Museum and National Railway Museum], old haunted Inns and pubs, year round festivals, street entertainers, ghost walks, riverboat trips, lively bars, cosy bistros all combine together to make York the city to visit whatever the season. York, a city where an ancient past feeds a vibrant present.

"Great location, beautiful house"

We stayed for 2 nights, wish we could have stayed for more! Lovely clean holiday home, absolutely perfect location, walking distance to shops, restaurants etc. A welcome pack of breakfast bits and bobs and wine waiting for us, a very nice touch! Everything you need in the house. Unfortunately it rained so we couldn't use the BBQ or the lovely outdoor area looking over the river. If we return to York we would definitely book again. Highly recommended!!

Thank you come and visit again soon

"A Friendly and Welcoming House"

The house was clean, cozy but not too cluttered -enough to make it feel very much a home. It has a rear garden with an amazing view of the river. The area is quiet, seems very safe and at the same time very close to the centre of York. All in all, if I were to go again and I needed a 5-bed, I'd definitely go again!

We appreciate your kind comments . Yes the river foss is amazing , specially this time of year with all the wildlife and baby duck, swans and gosling, it fascinating to watch them use the crossing in front of Clifford's tower too. Once thank you for your kind comments and we hope to see you again in the future.

"A great place to stay!"

Very comfortable, everything we needed to make our stay very enjoyable and relaxed. Loved the extra touches such as the wine and chocolates on the bed, which made it feel like a real treat. Really handy location to walk in to York. 10 out of 10!

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your kind comments. We hope you return to us in the near future.

"A beautiful property just a short walk from the city centre! Lovely!"

We absolutely loved this property! It felt just like home! The property is located just outside the old city walls which makes it convenient for walking into town. It sits on the River Foss and from the back garden you can see a part of the city wall. The back garden is spacious and all fenced in which was perfect for our 2 year old. The inside of the property is well decorated and was very clean on arrival. The owner left us lots of goodies including eggs, milk, OJ, bread and wine. These were much appreciated! The house was so well stocked with everything you could need from cooking utensils to soft towels. We especially enjoyed the little chocolates on all the pillows when we arrived. We will definitely stay in this property again if we even visit York and will recommend it to friends. Thank you for everything!

Thank you so much for your very kind comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again in the future. We've now had riversmead for just over a year and are guest have already stared to revisit us , With help off all our guests kind comments .
