The Yorkshire region
The north yorkshire moors and coast is a huge area of great national interest - the coastal villages are a fascinating mix of cobbled streets and curio shops with outstanding sea views. Of particular reknown is Runswick Bay, a 'cornish' type of ancient fishing village perched on the cliff side. Whitby is probably one of the most well known towns in the area with something to suit everyone and a 'must' for all to visit.
The area is a walkers paradise, along the cliffs, across the moors, along ancient drovers roads and if a cosy tea shop or an ancient inn is your forte, then you will be spoiled for choice.
Further afield, but within easy reach is the fascinating Victorian spa town of Scarborough - hitch a ride on a donkey along the beautiful beach in Scarborough Bay.
Visit the charismatic al fresco tea room a few miles from Whitby for a gorgeous cream tea, to be found in the garden of a tiny ancient hall in the forest by a waterfall (Falling Foss Tea Rooms) and on the way back play poo sticks from the bridge over the beck.
Visit Goathland - 'Heartbeat' country , or hop on the ancient steam railway at Grosmont to travel around in comfort and see the heart of the Yorkshire Moors.
Visit Port Mulgrave, a National Trust fossil beach which fascinates children and adults alike, a lovely spot on a sunny day
The choices are quite endless and all quite fascinating
Moorsholm is ideally situated and within easy reach of all the fascinating features and towns in the area. We have a large number of books, maps and leaflets which will guide you through and make sure that you have lots to see and do during your stay. The area has a fascinating history and Kirkleatham Museum (free entrance) houses an exhibition of items and jewellery of an Anglo Saxon princess which was found in a farmers field a few miles from the cottage.
