Ardfyne is a large, luxury 4 bedroom/4 bathroom detached property, just opened to the rental market in the late summer of 2013. See www. lochfyneselfcatering.co .uk for more details, pictures and video.

In a tranquil setting, this large property, over 2600 sq ft, with additional covered deck areas of over 300 square feet, sits in over 1/2 acre of landscaped, enclosed garden with stunning views over Loch Fyne and surrounding mountains. Just above the village of Strachur the house is within easy walking distance of the local shop, restaurant, pub, pontoon (boat mooring available from Spring 2014) and stony beach. This home is in a perfect location for touring Argyll and the western Highlands.

Ardfyne is a spacious, light -filled property and is tastefully decorated and furnished in a contemporary style. The landscaped garden surrounds the home on all sides and is filled with flowering shrubs, bulbs and trees. Deer, red squirrels, pheasants and a great variety of bird-life can be seen from the house.

On the ground floor there is a spacious hallway and a very large, new fully fitted, well equipped, modern, cream kitchen (15 by 12 feet) with view over the back garden. Everything that you need for a self-catering holiday! Including an American style fridge freezer with huge storage capacity. Off the kitchen is a useful utility room with washing machine and sink. Wheelchair access ramp.

On the ground floor there is a large public room with beautiful views over the garden and loch. The dining room/ conservatory with huge oak table and leather seating comfortably seats 8 and gives superb views over the garden, loch and 2 patio areas.

The younger guest is catered for as well with the provision of a downstairs games room with pool table, play area, lots of toys and teddies and double sofa bed.

There is also a double bedroom with dual aspect windows and fitted wardrobe. A spacious public bathroom is also on this floor.

A huge deck area runs along the front of the house, ideal for catching the afternoon and late evening sun, even when it rains.

On the upper floor there is a stunning, open-plan viewing/seating area with patio doors on to a viewing deck. Double height with exposed wooden beams, patio doors. Watch spectacular sunsets over the bay and surrounding hills and mountains. Glass balconies (both internal and external) give uninterrupted views over Loch Fyne and Baycroft Bay Moorings in the bay below.

Upstairs there are 3 huge double bedrooms, all with en-suites and built in wardrobes.

Bedroom 1 - a beautiful double window aspect room with views across and down the loch.

Bedroom 2 - another beautiful double window aspect room with views over the garden, hills and up the loch.

Bedroom 3 - has a feature window over the rear garden and open hillside and woodland behind the house.

Tiled en-suite with shower.

The games room can be used as a double bedroom with comfortable sofa bed.

A sofa chair in the twin upstairs bedroom can sleep an extra child.

Ardfyne can accommodate up to 8 adults and 2 children.

The garden is a wonderful area to relax in and enjoy the views. There are many mature trees and spectacular displays of flowering shrubs and bulbs. There are 2 large lawn areas and many stone chip paths to wander along from one area to the other. A small stream also wanders down along one side of the garden. There are 2 patio areas to catch the early morning and evening sun.

A few minutes walk takes you down to a pebbled shore with a new public pontoon and ramp from where you can look out over the bay with its moored yachts.

Ardfyne is superb for children. Games room with pool table as well as lots of areas to play outdoors. A short walk takes you down to the pontoon from where you can fish or catch crabs and see starfish.

The Central Scotland/Strathclyde region

Argyll in the west Highlands is one of the most spectacular parts of Scotland with beautiful scenery, mountains, lochs and wildlife. The house is perfect as a base to explore the varied Argyll coast with its sandy beaches, interesting, historical villages and wonderful wildlife. This is a wonderful area for hill walking, bird watching, fishing and touring.

Loch Fyne is the 3rd largest sea-loch in Scotland with marine wildlife cruises, diving charters and fishing charters.

Dunoon is the prinipal town with excellent ferry links to the mainland.

Oban, "the Gateway to the Isles, is an hour's drive away and has sailings to many of the Hebridean islands. Oban is a busy fishing port and ferry terminal with an 18 hole golf course, cinema and a great variety of shops and restaurants.

Travel north to Fort William and visit the Nevis Range ski resort with its cable car access to the mountain.

The stunning area of Loch Lomond and National Park is just a half hour drive away.

One of the most spectacular drives is to the yachting town of Tignabruiach via the Kyles of Bute or visit Inverary with its famous castle.

The city of Glasgow can be reached in an hour and a half and offers all the attractions of a modern, vibrant city.

Strachur

The village of Strachur is a world away from the stress and bustle. It is an historically interesting village with Strachur Parish Church and Strachur House , dating back to the 18th century.The village has a shop/tearoom, the Clachan pub, a garage/shop, a museum and the Creggans Inn with great bar and restaurant. Loch Fyne is renowned for its seafood. Two miles away is Invercottage seafood restaurant and twenty minutes drive will take you to the original Loch Fyne oyster bar.

"Nice time in a nice house in a nice area"

We spent 6 days with 8 persons (4 adults, 4 children). The house was very comfortable for us 2 families.The 3 bedrooms in the first floor were great, the one in the groundfloor (bed and bathroom) average.
The Location, about 100m away from Loch Fyne, is very nice (near Loch Lomond, a lot of other Lochs around, a nice view on the see and on hills and mountains). There were a lot of prospectus available in the house with which you could plan your daily trips. The house is well equipped (e.g. two fridges, a big toaster, an electric kettle). Especially the gas barbecue is brilliant.

So pleased to hear that you really enjoyed your visit to Scotland and enjoyed the house and area. Was also interested to hear that you managed to see a lot of the surrounding area. Ardfyne is certainly in a very good location for exploring the west coast and beyond.

"House needs some TLC and is full of DIY"

I was really looking forward to staying in this house however initial impressions on driving into the property was rather disappointing, Let me first list out the positives as I do want to make this a… More

We always welcome feedback from our guests but were puzzled and shocked to read your extremely negative report.

You advised us by email immediately after returning home that you “had a great holiday”. No mention was made of any problems or dissatisfaction with the property or indeed any reference to damage that you had done.

It was therefore a shock to us to find that the glass on the ceramic hob had been shattered and the new oak coffee table had been badly marked.

When you were informed of the damage you were understandably uncomfortable. We also note in your email response that “our friends who stayed with us were going to book to stay with their family, but I don't think that this will happen now”.

It would seem to us therefore that you and your friends were very happy with the property until damage was pointed out and since then you have decided to present a radically different view.

Many of your statements are not a matter of opinion but are fundamentally wrong and misleading. For example, I would comment as follows –

 The upper storey and viewing gallery was completed only one year ago. The principal furniture was purchased new at that time and was chosen in matched sets to provide an up to date, contemporary style.

 The house is fully double glazed – there is no single glazing.

 The games room is furnished to appeal to children and the younger generation.

 There is an abundance of sockets throughout the house and, in particular, there is a double socket immediately adjacent to each dressing table & mirror.

 The extensive woodland garden is heavily landscaped and has been appreciated by former guests.

Many of your comments are in direct conflict with other guests' recent reviews on TripAdvisor, such as –

Really delighted to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your holiday at Ardfyne and that the weather was good enough for you to enjoy the views, especially from the upstairs seating area that is becoming a firm favourite with all of our guests.
Although the local shop/café/post office and pontoon are just minutes walk from the house we do recommend to all our guests that they hire a car to explore everything that this beautiful area has to offer.
