The North Wales / Snowdonia / Gwynedd region
Imagine a land, with almost 100 miles of spectacular coastline, bounded in the east by stunning mountains and to the west by a magical, mystical island, a land of superb beaches, tiny coves, cliffs, coastal villages and ancient monuments.
Add in to the mix superb watersports, great golfing and fantastic walking and you have the Lleyn Peninsula, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which stretches out into the Irish Sea from the Northwest of Wales.
Pwllheli / Lleyn Peninsula area
The LLeyn Peninsula is the part of North Wales that is bounded by Caernarfon in the North, Porthmadog in the South and Bardsey Island to the West (a Bardsey trip is well worth the effort telephone Colin on 07817 944063, about £20).
The peninsula is approximately 35 miles in length by about 8 miles wide, with much of the coastline being designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Rocky coves, long sandy beaches, hidden valleys, mountains and Snowdonia close by. If you get the chance, head for Uchmynydd on a fine evening for the spectacular sunset – don’t forget your camera.
Pwllheli is the market town of the beautiful Lleyn Peninsula, lying on the Southern side of the peninsula at the Northern end of Cardigan Bay and benefitting from the effects of the Gulf Stream. Pwllheli boasts an array of shops, weekly market and an internationally renowned marina.
Pwllheli has 2 beaches, West End beach is directly to the front of the apartment and stretches from Gimlet Rock (about half mile to the east of the apartment), and past the golf course towards Llanbedrog headland. Glan y Don beach stretches from the harbour for a couple of miles towards Hafan y Mor Holiday Park. Pwllheli is a good base for exploring the peninsula:
Within 15 minutes you can get to Criccieth for the castle and Cadwalladers ice cream, also Abersoch for the ‘buzz’ and Llanbedrog – great walk around the headland to the Tin Man then down to the bistro on the beach and then up to the Art gallery.
Within 30 minutes you can get to Aberdaron and try a trip to Bardsey or across to Porth Dinllaen for everybody’s favourite walk around the golf links, past the lifeboat station and to the ‘pub on the beach’ - the Ty Coch. Also Porthmadog for the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog railways.
Within about 45 minutes you could be in Caernarfon or up in Snowdonia.
For golfers, Pwllheli golf course is a few minutes walk from the apartment, with further golf courses at nearby Abersoch and Porth Dinllaen (with stunning views).
For walkers the Lleyn Coastal Path passes to the front of the apartment, this path is 146 km or 84 miles long, extending from Caernarfon along the north Lleyn coast to Uwchmynydd and then along the southern coast to Porthmadog. The area also has many other fine walks with spectacular views, please contact the owner for details.
For watersports, surfing is available at Port Neigwl (Hell's Mouth), Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) and Porth Ceiriad with surfing and wakeboarding lessons available from Abersoch (about 6 miles). The whole area is great for sailing. For sea fishing please contact the owner for details.
