No.3,The Old Convent is a 1st floor apartment which is situated in the picturesque village of Fort Augustus on the southern tip of Loch Ness, which is virtually the geographical center of the Highlands. A perfect base for exploring the spectacular scenery and amenities that the area has to offer.
We, Felicity & Chris are local and live in one end of the convent and are able to suggest many wonderful day trips combining superb scenic drives and walks, with castles, brochs and ruins that you probably won't find in any guide book.
Fort Augustus is the perfect place to relax with a short walk to the center of the village where you can find grocery shops, butcher, post office, ATM, petrol station and several pubs and restaurants. You can take a boat trip up Loch Ness or simply chill on the canal side watching the boats negotiate the locks!
Chris is able to offer both guitar (beginner/intermediate) & fiddle (beginner) lessons to anyone who fancies a go.
The Old Convent was originally built as a church in 1842, then converted into a convent 'St Scholastica's Priory' in 1891, the nun's took residence in 1892 until 1922 when the remaining nun's were moved to Holme Eden Abbey. Some of the nun's are buried in the graveyard at Fort Augustus Abbey, half a mile from the convent on the shores of Loch Ness.
We are close to main road with the convent woods to rear giving you privacy, and a fantastic view of golf course and Ben Tee to front.
The property is ready for guests arrival from 4pm unless otherwise arranged, we ask that guests leave by 10am on day of departure as we need time to clean for next guests.

The Scottish Highlands region
Fort Augustus is central to the highlands and is a great location for hill walkers with plenty of Munro's and Corbett's to choose from. Fort William has Ben Nevis and the fantastic mountain bike tracks/skiing in winter of Aonach Mor , the steam train used in a Harry Potter film to Mallaig is well worth taking, the road to the Isle of Skye passing Eilean Donan castle is just breathtaking!
You can take a guided wildlife boat trip on Loch Sheil from Glenfinnan where you can spot otters, eagles, seals and many more wild creatures! If you take the boat trip on Loch Ness...you never know, Nessie might pop her head up for you or if you go to Loch Morar you might get a glimse of the monster Morag. Then of course the dramatic Glencoe, well worth a visit.

The Old Convent is a beautiful old building and our apartment was spacious, spotless and very well equipped. It's a short walk into Fort Augustus and its well located to visit the Loch Ness area, Skye, Fort William etc. Our special thanks to Chris and Felicity who were wonderful and helpful hosts and we wish them all the best for their amazing job renovating the building.

"A pearl in a wonderfully beautiful, scenic part of the highlands of Scotland"
It was worth the hours spent searching for the right accommodation to suit our needs on our first holiday in Scotland. The comments made by previous visitors to No 3 indicated we had made a good choice.
On arrival we were greeted by Felicity and Chris, who showed us to our home for the next two weeks. What a truly comfortable, cosy, tidy and very clean place it was. It included all the equipment one would wish for, and the views from the windows delightful.
Our hosts were very hospitable and advised us on the places of interest to visit and the very best scenic tours to take, to witness the best of this beautiful part of Scotland. To be made aware of the musical talents of our hosts, and to attend one of their 'gigs' at a local hotel was
a real joy.
Our final joy was to meet Harvey, a newly acquired pet dog. What a lovely animal and obviously well loved by his new owners.
Thank you Chris and Felicity for letting us into your home.
Thank you very much for you lovely comments. We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday here with us. Felicity, Chris & Harvey!

"Very Comfortable Convent"
We stayed 4 nights at the Old Convent. Felicity & Chris have really made a fantastic place to stay. Perfectly clean, very spacious rooms, extremely comfortable, and every possible kitchen utensil you could ever need. A truly wonderful place, quiet, close to town, but away from the day-trippers on buses, lots a beautiful drives nearby, walks from the door. Very well stocked grocery shop in town and a butcher with excellent quality meat. Next time we'll stay longer.
Thank you very much for your lovely comments, we are so glad your enjoyed your stay with us. Felicity & Chris.

My husband and I recently stayed for 4 nights. The flat is so charming and very clean. We really enjoyed our stay. It has beautiful views of the mountains and has everything you need. They even had milk in the fridge and cookies for us. There was tea and coffee in the pantry which was great because we didn't feel like going to the store the day we arrived so that allowed us to get through until next morning.
Thanks to the owners for allowing us to stay in their flat. It really is beautifully restored.
Thank you for your lovely comments, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Felicity & Chris.

"Lovely, lovely, lovely!!!!"
This place was fabulous! The building is being lovingly restored and it was so refreshing to see that such a nice job was done to this flat. The unit was spotless, (and I mean spotless-I am a clean freak!) and completely updated. The bathroom had an amazing tub and the bedroom was wonderfully romantic! Everything you need for cooking is in the kitchen and looked to be new. Large windows were in every room making it cheerful even during the cloudy weather. In the chilly winter climate, it was cozy and toasty warm. After all of the self catering cottages I have rented, this place was my favorite. The town is only a 5-8 minute walk down a sidewalk and is very charming. There are hiking trails everywhere and on both sides of the loch. I would recommend this to anyone because it is so clean, cheerful, and has all of the modern comforts of a new build. The owners are terrifically friendly and knowledgable as well. My only complaint is that I didn't find it sooner and spend more time there.
As a final note, people often "remodel" with no effort to maintain the integrity of the building but this was a restoration....you can see that the owners, Felicity and Chris, love this building. It is always nice to stay in a "home" that is loved.
Thank you for your lovely comments. It is so rewarding for us that our guests appreciate all the time/work and love that we have put into this lovely old building. It was lovely to meet you and we really enjoyed our chats. Felicity & Chris.

"A warmer welcome you could not wish to find"
The Old Convent is a fabulous place to stay. Extremely comfortable bedroom and sitting room. A super fully fitted kitchen with lovely wooden dining table and chairs. Plenty of storage space and everything you could possibly need (and more) is provided for your comfort and convenience. The bathroom is fitted with deep corner bath and shower attachment with lashings of very hot water on demand. Lovely! Everywhere is beautifully and tastefully decorated and immaculately clean and tidy. The owners Felicity and Chris live next door and receive you with a very warm welcome and are always available to help in any way they can to ensure your stay is enjoyable. Fort Augustus itself is a lovely place to visit with plenty to see and do. My husband and I stayed for our first wedding anniversary on 22 December 2013 until the following Saturday 28th. We enjoyed Christmas day dinner at the Lovat Hotel which was delicious and again a very warm welcome. We also liked our more casual suppers in the Lock Inn which is a terrific local pub and again very friendly!
The weather wasn't kind to us as it was very wet and extremely windy but we were very warm and cosy snuggling up on the sofa with the Christmas tree lights twinkling on the real tree thoughtfully provided and decorated by Felicity and Chris. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely apartment. The only slight downside is that the apartment is on the first floor and is accessed by two small flights of exterior stone steps.
Thank you for your lovely comments, we are glad you enjoyed your Christmas here despite the weather which was particularly bad that week!Felicity & Chris.

"A Perfect Holiday Apartment"
I have never written a review before but felt it would be a crime not to share our experience. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived to this beautifully restored apartment set in the old convent just a stone's throw from Fort Augustus centre. The peace and tranquility of the surrounding area was perfectly complimented by the comfort and function of the flat. The rooms have all been tastefully and sympathetically restored using the original features of the existing building and materials from the monastery in Fort Augustus itself. Modern amenities included wifi, a full range of free view channels and a DVD player. Felicity and Chris even supplied DVDs for our 5 year old daughter when they realised she would be staying. Chris & Felicity play in a Scottish band which we went along to see & the apartment hosts some paintings of Felicitys. I think it is very fitting that these two talented people will be the last chapter in this buildings history, they have dedicated so much of their lives to its cause. We plan to go back next year & are very much looking forward to seeing the developments. Cannot recommend highly enough!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments about the convent, the building is very dear to us. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to seeing you all again. Felicity & Chris.
