Modern Townhouse in Honfleur
About the home
The house is our family holiday home and is situated in 'Parc des Impressionnistes', a small landscaped and gated development completed in 2006, which blends perfectly with the surrounding buildings of Honfleur. The lounge and both bedrooms have stunning views of the Seine estuary with the iconic Pont de Normandie in the distance. Immediately below is the historic lighthouse 'Le Phare de l' Hospice' which was painted by many of the Impressionists including Monet, Seurat & Boudin.
We are within easy walking distance of all that Honfleur has to offer, just 5 minutes from the old harbour or 'Vieux Bassin', down the cobbled 'Rue de L'Homme de Bois'. Despite its proximity to the town it is beautifully quiet and enjoys its own small front garden, a perfect suntrap from late morning to sunset.

Enquire nowThe Normandy / Calvados region
Normandy combines a long and varied coastline with a charming countryside. There are many beautiful chateaux and market towns to be discovered and the historic cities of Caen, Bayeux and Rouen are within reach. The Pays d'Auge region produces fine cheeses, cider and of course Calvados apple brandy.
Deauville and Trouville are a short car or bus trip away. Trouville has a wonderful quayside Sunday market, pavement cafes and restaurants and a lovely sandy family-friendly beach. Just across the bridge you are in up-market Deauville with its chic shops and restaurants, the famous boardwalk along the seafront and the colourful beach parasols in summer. Deauville is famous for its annual Film festival in September and for its glamorous horse-racing course within walking distance of the town centre. Further along the coast, you can visit the D Day landing beaches and war museums.
The beautiful countryside offers both walking and cycling.
If you cross the magnificent 'Pont de Normandie' then Etretat is not far away with its beautiful cliffs and its golf course overlooking the sea. Le Havre itself should not be overlooked with its distinctive and architecturally important post-war town centre, the marvellous Musee Malraux packed full of Impressionist paintings and the adjoining seaside area of Ste. Adresse.
The Honfleur area
Honfleur is said to be the jewel of the Normandy coast. Impossibly tall, narrow 15th. Century houses line the edge of the much-photographed sheltered harbour or 'Vieux-Bessin'. Cobbled streets fan out in all directions with fascinating shops, galleries and enticing restaurants.
A bustling weekly Saturday market offers a wonderful variety of food and fresh produce as well as clothes, books and jewellery etc. and on the Wednesday there is an organic market around St. Catherine's church. This is also the location for the antiques market on the first Sunday of each month throughout the season. Honfleur is still an active fishing port and fishermen sell their catch from the quayside.
Honfleur has its own sandy beach (Plage du Butin), about 1km. away from the town. You can drive but there is a lovely walk along the side of the estuary past the beautiful gardens and the 'Parc des Personalities'. The fascinating Butterfly Farm lies below the house, close to the tennis courts and covered swimming-pool.
The town was adopted by the Impressionists in the late 19th Century and its artistic heritage is everywhere to be seen. You can browse the many interesting commercial galleries and try not to miss the Musee Eugene Boudin just two minutes walk from the house with its large and varied collection of Impressionist paintings.
The town is very much alive all year round with its many events and festivals and as with all French towns, you can get abundant information from the excellent local Tourist Office.

My wife, her adult daughter, and I spent a week here. It was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately the weather wasn't. But we still had a wonderful visit. After arriving in Paris on an early morning flight from the states, we picked up a rental car and headed to Honfleur. We arrived late morning and found Sue still cleaning. We were able to park our car in the unit's secure parking space with all our belongings, and immediately headed into town, to explore while Sue finished. She explained about the hot water problem, which was easily remedied by checking the circuit braker and re-setting it if it had switched off. We had absolutely no problem having as much hot water as we needed. Nor was the lack of wi-fi a problem for us, since Judy's daughter had a Smart phone, and could connect with it. Besids, our idea of a vacation is to get away from all that. The house, layout worked perfectly for us, and the location couldn't have been better - far enogh away from the town center to be quiet, but close enough to walk to every morning to pick up a fresh bagette, sit by the harbor for a coffee and pastry breakfast. We used the house as a base for day trips to Ruen, Etretat, and Deauville. The house was equipped nicely for cooking, although we only cooked two dinners. We recommend trying L'homme d'Bois but pass on Ill Parasole. Why eat mediocre/poor Italian food when in France? |
