Pinewood Cottage is a one-bedroom barn conversion which sleeps two (+2 inc sofa bed), adjoining Thorpegate Cottage. Recently renovated and decorated to a high standard, it provides modern coordinated accommodation within a traditional setting. All rooms have beamed and vaulted ceilings and the living area has wood flooring with rugs. The shower room is ¾ tiled, with a modern suite, ceramic tiled floor, electric power shower and shaver point.
Once forming part of the historic Gunton Hall Estate, the grounds of Nursery Farm include eight acres of woodland that visitors are free to explore. The owners live in the grade two listed brick and flint thatched farmhouse close to the holiday cottages.
This delightful corner of rural Norfolk is only five miles from the traditional seaside town of Cromer, famous for its delicious crabs and the end of the pier shows. Also within easy reach are the Norfolk Broads, the fascinating network of waterways where day boats are available for hire.

The area is ideal for cycling with many designated ‘quiet lanes’. Close by is a cycle track along a disused railway line that gives a unique opportunity to explore unspoilt Norfolk with its abundance of wildlife. The more ambitious cyclist may like to attempt the full route into Norwich.
Easily accessible too, are the picturesque villages of the North Norfolk coast, much loved by sailors and offering a number of RSPB reserves, lovely coastal footpath walks and seal-watching trips. Good fishing and a choice of golf courses can be found within 5 miles.
Norfolk is very rich in terms of heritage with several National Trust properties to visit including nearby Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall.
The owners, Paula and Keith Barr live in an adjacent thatched farmhouse and are always available to assist with any of your requirements.
A deposit of £50.00 per cottage is payable at the time of booking. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Thorpewood Cottages.’ If the booking is less than 30 days before your holiday the full amount is payable. In the event of cancellation your deposit is non-refundable unless we are able to re-let the cottage. Any balance is payable not less than four weeks before the arrival
The East Anglia / Norfolk region

The Bure Valley Railway
Norfolk’s longest narrow gauge railway runs through beautiful countryside between Aylsham and Wroxham.
Felbrigg Hall and gardens
Spectacular 17th-century hall with fine furniture and paintings. The park is renowned for its fine and aged trees. The former deer park is being restored to woodland pasture. There are way-marked walks to the church and lake, and through the woods.
The team of glassmakers can be seen working with molten glass, using blowing irons and hand tools. Buy beautiful glassware as a souvenir of your visit.
The Muckleburgh Collection
Famous collection of tanks, artillery and military vehicles. Take a bone shaking ride along the cliff tops on the Gama Goat or even learn to drive a tank! Voted North Norfolk’s top attraction twice.
Britain’s largest protected wetland has similar status to a national park, mixing wildlife and natural beauty with leisure. The inland waterways of the broads cover a huge area, much of which can be explored by hired boats.
Norfolk Shire Horse Centre
Collection of heavy working horses with displays and activities for all ages.
North Norfolk Railway (The Poppy Line)
Steam engines of a bygone age haul carriages along the poppy line from Sheringham to Holt through an area officially designated as being of outstanding natural beauty.
A fine historic city with many interesting places to visit, including cathedral, castle and museum and excellent traditional and modern shops, including an impressive mall. The city is listed amongst the top ten places for shopping in the UK. The state of the art Millennium Library at the city’s forum building is a must. The cosmopolitan city of Norwich has a lively mix of nightlife, a good variety of restaurants and a range of clubs catering for all tastes.
Sandringham House and Estate
The country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. Well worth a visit.
Landscape park contains of mature woodlands. The large woodland garden is particularly famous for its spectacular show of rhododendrons and azaleas flowering from mid May to June.
Craft Centre situated just outside Wroxham. If you have an interest in seeing craftsmen and women producing top quality items, this is the place to visit.
Sports and Leisure
There are golf courses at Cromer and Sheringham, a leisure pool at Sheringham and an indoor pool available to non-residents at Pinewoods caravan park, Wells. Tennis courts are available in Cromer, Sheringham and North Walsham. Good fishing can be found at a number of beaches close by, with coarse fishing at Letheringsett lakes near Holt and the lake within Gunton park just 2 miles away.
Nature reserves and bird watching
There are nature reserves at Titchwell, Cley, Minsmere, Hickling and Ranworth Broad.
Art and Theatre
Theatres can be found in Cromer, Sheringham, Great Yarmouth and Norwich. Art galleries include the widely acclaimed Sainsbury Centre of the UEA and Norwich Castle Museum’s gallery. There are a number of a number of private galleries in Norwich and towns close by.

Popular Victorian seaside town with fine church and a pier.
Sheringham (10 miles)
Upmarket seaside town with a good range of local shops, pubs and restaurants. Attractions include the North Norfolk Railway and Splash (fun / swimming pool).
Mundesley (6 miles)
Small cliff top town with range of local shops and restaurants.
Holt (12 miles)
Pleasant Georgian market town, with the renowned Baker’s and Larner’s departmental store, established over 200 years ago. Many antique shops and a good selection of cafes and restaurants.
Aylsham (10 miles)
Small market town with well-known weekly auction and market on Mondays.
Wroxham (12 miles)
Popular broads town with marina for boat hire and river trips. Home of Roy’s of Wroxham, reputed to be the biggest village store in England.
The Cromer / Thorpe Market area
Thorpe Market Village
Nursery Farm stands on the edge of Thorpe Market, a pleasant North Norfolk village, which has a number of pretty cottages surrounding the green. These include the historic Green Farm with its Tudor chimney stacks, now run as a restaurant and hotel with a bar open to non-residents.
Shops, pubs & restaurants
Within two miles there is an excellent farm shop, which includes own-grown vegetables and fruit, a delicatessen, butchers and restaurant. A traditional country pub serving food can be found at Gunton station, approximately one mile distant. At Roughton village (2 miles) there is a general store, post office and petrol station, pub serving food and an excellent fish and chip shop. For more extensive shopping, Cromer and North Walsham, both 5 miles away, have a number of supermarkets, pubs and restaurants.

How to find us ( O.S ref 241356, sheet 133)
From Norwich, take the A140 Cromer Road, bypass Aylsham still heading for Cromer, ignore the first sign for Thorpe Market as this is a single track road with passing places, continue into Roughton village, take the first right in the village centre, B1436. direction North Walsham and Thorpe Market, after 1½ miles, turn right at crossroad on A149 direction North Walsham, continue into Thorpe Market village, as you are leaving village there is a sharp right hand bend, with Nursery farm house standing end on to the road, turn right immediately after the farm house into entrance driveway, please take care when turning into driveway, due to restricted vision.
From Kings Lynn Take the A148 to Cromer, bypassing Fakenham and Holt, approx one and a half miles after passing the Roman Camp hotel on your right turn right onto the B1436 direction of Norwich and North Walsham, continue into Roughton Village, at the crossroads with the A140, turn right then immediately left continuing on the B1436 direction of North Walsham and Thorpe Market, Directions then as above from Roughton.
From Great Yarmouth. Take A 149 direction of Cromer, bypass North Walsham, after approx four miles pass village sign for Thorpe Market, and then pass right turning for Gunton railway station, after approx 200 yards turn left into drive way
There is a bus stop in the village just 500m walk away with direct services to Cromer and North Walsham, with connections to Norwich and Great Yarmouth.
Gunton railway station is one mile away, providing a regular service to Norwich, with ongoing connections to London, Cambridge and Ipswich.
The service also runs to Cromer and Sheringham, where connections can be made to the North Norfolk Railway that runs steam trains into Holt. On the Norwich line, connections can be made at Wroxham to the Bure Valley Narrow Gauge Railway that runs between Wroxham and Aylsham.
Norwich International Airport is 12 miles away and Stansted Airport approximately 70 miles.
