About the home

Beautiful newly renovated farmhouse with private pool, set in a rural position with wonderful views of the Apuane mountains, yet less than a 5 minute drive from the popular market town of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, and within walking distance of a good restaurant.

This spacious, light & airy 3 storey detached property with its traditional arch style windows, chestnut beamed ceilings exposed stonework, and working open fire, is offered as one private house, but is in fact split into two independent units to give larger groups extra privacy. In total there are 6 bedrooms (one with private balcony) and 5 bathrooms.

The main house has 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms (2 en-suite) along with a very large open plan kitchen/diner; living area; dining area (for 12); and second living area/quiet room. The second unit (in the same house but with independent entrance) hosts the remaining 2 bedrooms and one bathroom along with a further fully equipped living/kitchen/diner. This farmhouse is an ideal choice for two families holidaying together. Outside there is a private pool and large garden, with mountain views.

Cot and highchair available on request.
Pool towels can be provided on request.
Wireless Internet access available at extra cost. Guest to bring own computer.
Babysitting can be arranged (this must be arranged in advance of stay and is subject to availability)
Cook can be arranged on request for evenings when one wishes to dine at home 9 (notice required)

The Tuscany / Lucca Province region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with medieval architecture…

The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its ‘Green Lung’ is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism.
The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turn…And, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping…
The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mind…The local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable!

The pace of life is slow and peaceful – spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or ‘cheese throwing’. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery.

For ‘townie’ days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach too…This is Olde Worlde Italy.

The Castelnuovo di Garfagnana area

The farmhouse is situated in the heart of the Garfagnana, with stunning 360 views of the Appenines, Apuane Alps and the famous 'Uomo Morto'. Whilst ideal for a peaceful, rural away from it all holiday, this property offers the convenience of town too, with the famous market town of Castelnuovo less than a 5 minute drive away.

Indeed the beautiful fortress, with commanding views over the valley and the mountains beyond, and noted for its classical music events, is 10 minutes on foot & here one will find a good quality restaurant serving excellent local food.. The town itself has a famous weekly market, bars, restaurants, shops, and train station for easy exploring. Drive times are: Castelnuovo 3 mins or so Mediaeval town of Barga - 15 minutes Lucca - 45 minutes Pisa - 1 hour 15 minutes Florence - 90 minutes National Park of Orrechiella - 30 mins Walking, horseriding, and picnic opportunities straight from the door!

“A Family Celebration at Orbaci” Orbaci was the perfect villa for a relaxing celebration for our large family. The villa itself is fitted out to a very high standard and very well equiped. It's situation is beautiful, with stunning views over to the distant mountain range. The swimming pool is idyllic. Alan and Mel, the owners who don't live on site, are very nice. Never obtrusive, but willing to help if required. Mel made a meal (at a reasonable extra cost) for our arrival, which was extremely tasty. All in all, the holiday was worth every penny.

“Fantastic villa in beautiful position” We had a party of 9 staying 2 weeks in this wonderfully converted and updated villa. It was spacious and very comfortable. Everything you would have wanted was available in the villa. The surroundings are simply stunning. Forested mountain sides, quietness it was a joy getting up every morning. It is locatecd only 5 mins drive from the area's main town so convenient for provisions etc. it is also accessible to the coast (1hr), Lucca (1hr), Pisa (1.5 hrs) and Florence (2hrs) so good days out are also practical as well. The owners Mel and Alan and very knowledgeable and given provided presents of home grown vegetables and honey! Thoroughly enjoyable stay.
