The East Anglia / Norfolk region
Norfolk is in East Anglia, north of London and east of the Midlands. It is a predominately flat area with miles of unspoilt beautiful coastline with sandy beaches along much of it. The coastline and mud flats attract migrating and seasonal birds all through the year. It has large amounts of countryside and country roads with no motorways going into the area. The East Anglia region is known for its waterways and for providing diverse and plentiful food crops - one of the breadbaskets of England.
It can be windy due to the North Sea winds, however, it is one of the warmest and sunniest places in England. The water at the beaches often warms in the summer sun. The area is full of history with many stately homes, English Heritage sites and places of outstanding natural beauty.
Burnham Market area
There is a wide variety of local attractions and activities for families, couples and even individuals.
Children can be entertained by the local beaches, the lavender farm (the largest lavender collection in the country), Snettisham park farm and deer safari - where you can take a tour out to the deer, feed the farm animals and play on the large playground, The Hunstanton Sea life and seal sanctuary with the first shark tunnel in the country, or even take a trip out from Blakeney quay to see the Seals. There are also local swimming pools, soft play areas, ride on trains to the beach at Wells and 10 gauge electric trains and even sailing lessons are possible. There is also a Maize Maze through the summer in the local area. A babysitter can be arranged with advance warning for payment locally.
There are plenty of attractions for everyone else. These range from the stately home of Holkham Hall - with it's bygone cars exhibition, to bird watching at the many local visitors centres, out on the mud flats or even just in the fields 20yds from the cottage. There are many English Heritage, National Trust and independent stately homes in the local area including Sandringham - the British Queen's Norfolk residence. You can tour the state rooms, have tea in the grounds, buy her meat and pick her apples (in season) and attend many of the activities like the Christmas craft fair. Just a few minutes drive away is Pensthorpe Nature reserve home of BBC springwatch. It provides bug trails for kids and plenty of bird watching and wondering for adults.
For the active there are a few local sailing schools and many golf courses and a driving range nearby. The local town has a bowling alley. There is also local fishing lakes and a painting school for those who aren't as active. There is also horse riding and high trees walking for the even more adventurous.
The village itself is the hub of the local area. It has a couple of pubs with excellent restaurants, a few other local restaurants, one in the village and many within a short drive. And even the Michelin starred restaurant of Galton Blackiston 25 minutes or so away (you need to book most eateries in high season and especially this one all year around). The village has a vast array of shops including a butcher selling local game and produce, a bakery producing the famous 'blob', a chemist, a fabulous wine merchant, a general store, bookshops and many galleries and boutique clothing shops and even a hat shop. Everything you could possibly need is here, meaning that you don't have to drive if you don't want to!! The village has a produce fair in early July, Christmas lights are switched on at the end of November and many other events take place throughout the year - details in the monthly diary in the cottage.
And there is even a beauty salon providing massages for those that want a little pampering and a few tea shops for the rest to wait in while you're having your treatments.
How to get there
It is easiest to drive to Sea Lavender Cottage. It has easy access from the Midlands and the South East. The alternative is a train to Kings Lynn Station and then the coast hopper bus. This bus will easily ferry you around most of the attractions, beaches and activities in the area during your stay if you want to leave the car at home. The village also has all the provisions, shops and restaurants that you could possibly need.

The cottage was booked out solidly in its first season from June to the end of November - here is a selection of visitor comments.
Thanks for a lovely stay in your fabulous cottage. It was so clean and welcoming, with every detail thought of and we really bappreciated the tray of goodies and pint of milk - all these little touches make such a difference. We will be recommending your cottage to anyone we know who wants to saty in Norfolk. Bircham Family April 09
Had a great time. Great place to stay. It is obvious that great thought to detail has been given. The welcome pack and the other little extra bits and pieces helped to make our stay so enjoyable. This has been our first trip to Norfolk but it will certainly not be our last. Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sandringham. See you again in 2009 September 08, B and G – Doncaster, S Yorkshire
