Anchor Barn
About the home
Anchor Barn is located in the beautiful North Norfolk village of Morston - a few quiet lanes, a cluster of flint cottages and a 12th century church. It is just half a mile from the larger village of Blakeney which has a mini-supermarket, delicatessen, fishmonger and other amenities. The world famous beaches of Wells and Holkham, seen in Shakespeare in Love are just 15 mins west, while the stunning reed marshes and beaches of Cley and Salthouse, home to a great variety of birds and seen recently in The Duchess, are just 5 minutes East. There are many excellent places to eat including a great village pub, and the Michelin starred Morston Hall.
The barn benefits from a large fully equipped bespoke kitchen which leads through into the sitting room with three sofas and log burning stove. It has huge sliding doors opening out onto a lovely sun trap courtyard garden which is an ideal place to relax all year round. All the bedrooms are extremely comfortable, attractively furnished, light and airy.

The East Anglia / Norfolk region

The North Norfolk coast is one of the hidden gems of England. Designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. This beautiful corner of the country is known for its open spaces, pine forests, acres of unspoilt countryside, wild salt marshes, mudflats and last but not least its miles of white, sandy beaches.
The area boasts an unusually large number of stately homes. You can visit the spectacular Holkham Hall with it's summer concerts, farm shops and lakes, or the imposing Houghton Hall with it's white deer and stunning interiors or Blickling Hall with it's famous tapestries, paintings and gardens.
For wild life lovers there is a large seal colony on Blakeney Point and ornithologists will delight at the great flocks of migrating birds that swoop down to feed in the salt marshes, the RSPB observatory at Cley with its hides and look out points is a perfect place to spot rare breeds. The Peddars Way and North Norfolk coastal path offer 90 miles of stunning trails along the entire coast.
Children will love riding the steam railways at Sheringham, Great Walsingham and Wells or visiting Dinosaur Land for it's giant sculptures of dinosaurs, Bewilderwood for its tree top rope bridges and slides and the indoor steam fair in Thursford.
Many of the villages on the coast have hardly changed since Nelson played in the creeks of Burnham Overy Staithe. Distinctive brick and flint cottages, period churches and traditional pubs look out on to marshes and creeks with the sea beyond.
And with Norfolk being the bread basket of Britain you can be sure to find wonderful restaurants offering locally grown produce and fresh seafood.
It is a little known fact that North Norfolk is 30% drier on average than the rest of England.
The Blakeney / Morston area
Morston is a delightful brick and flint village that happens to boast two fantastic eateries, the Michelin starred Morston Hall and the popular Anchor gastro-pub. It is home to a bustling quay which swells with people at high tide who come to take one of the many boat trips out to Blakeney point to see the seals or with yachtsmen tacking down the creeks in to the harbour in their Norfolk Oysters. From here you can hire a boat or take lessons from Norkolk etc..sailing school or wander out over wooden bridges towards the natural harbour or simply sit and taste the local crab and mussels on offer.
A mile east along the coastal path you arrive at the village of Blakeney which boasts a deli, a spar, three pubs and a couple of shops offering local handmade goods. Blakeney has surely one of the prettiest quaysides on the entire coast and is a crabbing hotspot. Tiny unspoilt lanes, a green and a duck pond are among the many attractions of this charming village.

We really liked the pub who were very tolerant and welcoming to our exuberant brood - an even managed a plated take away meal for the 'baby sitter' when the rest of us went for lunch." C Summerfield
