Wander the streets of the Skiathos Town, the historic port city on the south side of the island. Then head to the north side for a scenic stroll along the high rocky coast. Look for hidden monasteries and quiet tavernas on secluded hilltops where you can sip a cool drink and enjoy the breeze from the Mediterranean Sea.

Take a boat trip to Bird Island, or visit the Papadiamandis House, one of the beautiful preserved historic structures here. You'll never run out of things to do on Skiathos, but here are a few additional suggestions as you plan your trip:

  • Go scuba diving: Come face to face with colourful marine life as you explore the surprising biodiversity of the reef system around Skiathos.
  • Hike to Kastro: Across the island from Skiathos Town lies a hiking trail to the ruined ancient village of Kastro. Prepare to see fascinating sights along the trail including old churches, ancient gardens and a secluded beach.
  • Play on Little Banaana Beach: As one of the most popular beaches on Skiathos, Little Banaana Beach is a great place to swim, surf, sunbathe or just relax and watch the boats go by.
  • Go water skiing or wake boarding: The calm waters here are perfect for water sports of all kinds, and plenty of classes are available that are ideal for beginners.
  • Take a cooking class: After you've spent a few evenings sampling the delicious local cuisine of Skiathos, learn how to bring the flavours of the Mediterranean islands home with you.

The busiest time on Skiathos is during the height of the summer months, but if you schedule your trip during the winter, you'll find quieter beaches that are just as beautiful. No matter when you visit, you'll have no trouble finding a luxurious condo in Skiathos Town. holiday rentals and apartments are widely available in town all year long. You can also easily find a condo or elegant villa closer to the north shore. If you have some extra time to explore the area, you may want to include additional trips to Santorini and Mykonos.

Aries Villas Collection - Villa Sagittarius
Excellent doesn't really do Aries Villas justice...

I spent a long time, back in early 2016, looking for the ideal location for my family and friends to stay, while in Skiathos for a wedding in May 2017. The top of our wish list was a property with four double or king size beds. My search took me to Aries Villas, whose website at the time didn't show a lot of what was on offer (it's since been updated and shows the villas in all their glory). I contacted Captain John to find out availability and from that moment we didn't lose touch for more than a month or so, as he helped me make plans for our stay and understand more about the island, including things to do like sailing and sights not to miss. In July 2016, my sister-in-law and her fiance visited Skiathos, to plan their big day. Capt. John and Evangelos made them very welcome and gave them a tour of the villas. We knew we'd chosen well when they both reported back on how idyllic the setting was, how lovely the hosts were and how luxurious the accomodation was. We could not wait. At the beginning of May, Capt. John and Evangelos were in contact with us to find out when our flight arrived and arranged to meet us. When we arrived at Skiathos airport Evangelos was waiting for us. Arriving at the villa, we were struck by the position of the three villas, but blown away by Sagittarius' pool, patio, garden, the view down to the sea, it's really special! All the rooms are spacious and finished to a very good standard. The decor, in particular, is what sets these villas apart (styled by Evangelos' mum). From the pool and patio area, to the living room and bedrooms, there are some lovely touches, it's stylish and very comfortable. Sagittarius is ideal for a large family or group of friends, like us. What we liked the most were the three levels, the living accomodation in the middle, which meant we weren't falling over each other and were able to enjoy our own space. Those upstairs were able to enjoy the huge balcony, with shade if needed. Unfortunately cases didn't arrive for two us of, but Evangelos did everything he could to help with the baggage handlers and spoke to the airport daily, until our bags arrived (which was four days later). Evangelos had already taken us shopping for essentials, but kindly drove us to the airport to collect our bags when they did finally arrive. What I didn't know when we booked, was that both Capt. John and Evangelos would drive us round the island whenever we needed them (understandably with notice, so as to acommodate all their guests). That included trips to the supermarket, the beach, Skiathos town and dropping us to the wedding hotel, which was at the other end of the island! This sets Villa Aries apart, it's the little things that count, but this isn't a little thing, it's a huge bonus and made our holiday one of the most relaxing and one of the best! Breakfast is such a treat. I love self catering for the independance you have, but the mix that Villa Aries offers, with the breakfast buffet, is like nothing we've experienced when hiring a villa before. The lovely ladies who work at the villas, cleaning and catering, prepare omlettes on request, but make sure a buffet is stocked with the best honey I've ever tasted, homemade jams (made at their family home, by mum), fruit, greek yogurt, breads, bacon, sausages, eggs, cheese pies and pastries. Nespresso coffee, teas and juices, really everything you need and more - amazing. One day we had awful rain, John and Evangelos delivered breakfast to us so we didn't have to make the short walk to the breakfast terrace. Skiathos is a place we've not visited before, but would definitely return to. Had we stayed elsewhere that would probably have been the case, but from what we saw of other hotels and accomodation, unless you're paying a ridiculous amount of money (thousands a night), I think it's very hard to beat Villa Aries. Capt. John and Evangelos recommeded some wonderful places and restaurants for us to enjoy, we didn't have one bad meal. We went to beautiful beaches, went sailing on Aeolus (arranged by John and highly recommended). 95% of the things we did, we would not have done if it hadn't been for John and Evangelos' recommendations. It's Capt. John, Evangelos and the ladies who clean and cook that make this one of the best, if not the best, places we've ever stayed. I have to admit to crying when we left, not only sad to leave everyone, but there were a couple of unexpected surprises during and at the end of our stay, which makes putting everything into words on how much we enjoyed our time really difficult. We didn't know how to say thank you. We will return and hope everyone who visits Villa Aries enjoys it just as much, it really is hard to beat and we can't recommend enough. It's by no means the cheapest, but I believe is the best value for money, with the transport, beautiful accomodation, 5* service and the best Greek hospitality there is, is what you get here. I'd encourage anyone to stretch the budget to stay at Villa Aries. You won't regret it! *NB. It has been a long time (years) since I've posted on TripAdvisor, after a previous HONEST and ACCURATE review almost saw me in court. The apartment itself was lovely - spacious, clean and airy bedrooms with doubles and twins so this will suit most large groups. The upstairs is even better - very spacious kitchen/living/dining, but this was secondary to the outside portion of the first floor, where there is a shaded table to seat 10 for al fresco dining and an outside sofa area with stunning views over the local bay - we spent a lot of time up there! We also spent a lot of time at the pool, which was surprisingly large for a single apartment and came equipped with plenty of sun beds, deck chairs and yet another table and chairs. The local beach is a 5 minute walk away and isn't ideal for infants as it gets deep quickly but is great for snorkelling with lots of fish in the shallows. The beach at Koukanaris(bus stop 26, 15/20mins on the bus) is more suited to infants and has lovely white sand. The two local food outlets, Infinity Blue restaurant and Xanthe pool bar were also willing (and did!) to serve your meal in the apartment, so cooking is strictly optional. The taxi journey to the apartment was relatively short, about 20mins, and it is situated a few hundred yards off the main road, right next to bus stop number 15 that is very well serviced and gives good coverage of Skiathos at a very reasonable price (€4.80 for 2 adults and 2 kids single). There are also lots of bars, restaurants and shops within reasonable walking distance (all food is of good quality and reasonably priced). Lynette was extremely helpful with local knowledge, any queries we had and also booked taxis for us if required. Maids came to clean everyday and didn't get in your way if you were in whilst they were there. One note to remember which we forgot is that toilet roll and bin bags for the kitchen aren't included after they run out on arrival. If you have children then I would advise taking a baby monitor so you can hear them whilst you relax upstairs in the evening as you are unable to hear them as the downstairs is completely seperate(stairs outdoors). All doors have a key lock on the doors rather than keys which is handy in a large group and no chance of losing keys. … see more

I have one word to describe this place...superb. The villa was immaculate on our arrival. The views from every room and by the pool were stunning. You have all the essentials you need for a holiday provided for at this villa. We were left a welcome pack of fruit, bread, wine, water etc which was very thoughtful. Near to the villas you will find two good restaurants with excellent views across the sea and down to Skiathos. Skiathos Town is approx a 10 minute drive away with a large selection of restaurants. This villa is the best place we have stayed at, a car is essential, but the pay off is the stunning views. When we return to Skiathos, this is where we will stay. … see more

A real gem for discerning travellers

The “Little House” is more like a little “home from home.” Peaceful location, uninterrupted spectacular view from patio & bedroom. You could almost feel like the only tourists in town. Why put up with dodgy hotels & studio apartment complexes, when you can have your own little home? Salli was fantastic, waiting hours for our delayed flight. Actually the included transfers to and from airport are a real bonus, reducing stress, whilst clearly saving a taxi fare or two. The property is very cleverly designed, benefitting from the main house being so close, and set in their beautiful garden - yet it still feels very private. Great attention to detail from the owner enhances the “home from home” experience - the generous 1st day provisions, the fluffy towels, a good hairdryer (!), and quiet yet very effective air-conditioning. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property ...I only hope it doesn’t get so popular that we can’t get availability again! … see more
Starlight Villas Skiathos,
Our best holiday to date !

This villa is perfect in every way , from the cleanliness to the full equipped kitchen to the breathtaking views . We where a family of 8 , 3 adults, 4 teenagers and a 6 year old , we fit into this villa perfectly, lots of room . On arrival into skiathos airport we where meet with friendly smiling faces from Jill, Tony and Dimitri . They gave us a memorable short journey to the luxurious villa , and wow what a villa . Jill showed us around the villa and made us feel very welcome. ( while the children jumped into the very deep pool ) Dimitri brought our suitcases in and them pored us his homemade Greek spirit ( wow that warms you up ha ha ) . Before we arrived at the villa we ordered some food , stifado , pepperoni pizza cheesy chips and Greek salad all homemade from Dimitris wife , it was delicious! We hired a 4x4 Jimmy off Dimitri so we could on all the off roads/ dirt tracks ( this is a must, brilliant experience) Dimitri cleaned up after us everyday around the pool And he was always there if we needed anything , he really is amazing funny man . So if you’re looking for the perfect villa with an amazing view and the most loveliest hosts , then this is the villa for you . We all can’t wait to go back next year . Beachfront Greek Villa with Semi-Private Sandy Beach
PARADISE FOUND ... NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the owner of the villa, Fred was absolutely amazing. Nothing was ever too much trouble and he made us feel like we'd been friends for years. We were on Skiathos to get married and honeymoon and Fred went out of his way to ensure everything went smoothly and stress-free. As for Fred's villa ... there aren't enough words to describe how magical, beautiful and tranquil it is ... we truly found paradise. So much so, we've already booked our stay for next year. Although the beach is semi-private we had it all to ourselves during week two, week one we shared it with a couple of families which was absolutely fine because the beach is big enough to accommodate all guests from the nearby villas. If you're looking for a peace of heaven on the beautiful island of Skiathos, then Fred's villa is the place for you.
