Description from owner

Description

Walnut Cottage was originally built in the 16th century but has been lovingly restored to combine a high standard of modern comfort with traditional stonework and a dramatic granite fireplace which provides for a cosy winter fire and makes the cottage available all year round. The mezzanine double bedroom overlooks the open plan living area with lounge, dining room and modern kitchen facilities.

Surrounded by 5 acres of land there are plenty of picnic areas, patio furniture for picnics or a bottle of wine in the sunshine and of course, lots of off-road parking.

The kitchen is well equipped with a hob, small oven, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster.

The shower room is on the ground floor, it has a built in wash basin with vanity unit, large mirror and a WC.

There is a stone table and chairs to the side of the Gite that used to be a Cider Press Wheel. There is also a picnic bench, sun umbrella, a two person swing and a barbecue for out side dining.

Location description from owner

The Basse-Normandie region

The Western Manche coast has long beaches and thick fine sand. At Granville there are beautiful beaches and many delicious seafood restaurants on the Port.

The Bayeux Tapestry, Domfront, Fourges, the D Day Landing Beaches in the North, Mont Saint Michel which is surrounded by a magnificent bay and the British War Cemetery, all of which are within an hour’s drive.

The River See is renowned for being one of the best Salmon and Trout Rivers in France. You can go fly fishing in Brousains or in Vengeons.

The area is great for walking and cycling, with many marked trails - two of which are 5 minutes from the cottage.

Kayaking and rock climbing are also available in the Suisse Normand region.

Vire-Normandie

Our peaceful cottage is located between the pretty market towns of Sourdeval and Vire, close to the beautiful Lake Dathee and St Sever Forest.

The cottage sits in 5 acres of grounds including an old cider orchard and a cider press wheel that has been retained as an outside table with stone chairs.

A five minute drive will take you into the Centre of Vire where there are plenty of restaurants, bars and sporting activities, including swimming pools, golf, fishing, boat hire, off road cycle paths, beautiful walks, Las Cascades Waterfall, rivers, extensive forests and local markets.

Lake Dathee features boating, fishing and a fabulous 18 Hole Golf Course which overlooks the lake.

Vire is an ancient walled city, built in the 12th century by Henry 1 Beauclerc, Duke of Normandy, son of William the Conqueror. After the 1944 bombings parts of the medieval town were spared and are still visible today in the re-built city.

The property is ideally situated to visit Bayeux Tapestry, Mont Saint-Michel, Domfront, Fourges, the Landing Beaches in the North, the War cemeteries and the beautiful beaches around Granville.
