Location description from owner

The Campania region

Campania is a region celebrated for its climate, the fertility of the lands and the astonishingly beautiful landscapes.

The two beautiful gulfs of Naples and Salerno with the Amalfi and Cilento coasts, separated by the Sorrento peninsula, are world famous for the high cliffs, sandy bays, grottoes and islands (Ischia, Procida, Capri), each view an enchanting postcard picture, and such a great experience for the senses, the feel of the air, the odours of the pine trees, lemons and oranges, that the ancients rightly called this region "felix ager", a happy land.

Cilento e Vallo di Diano National Park is the second largest park in Italy. It stretches from the Tyrrhenian coast to the foot of the Apennines in Campania and Basilicata, and it includes the peaks of Alburni Mountains, Cervati and Gelbison and the coastal buttresses of Mt. Bulgheria and Mt. Stella. The extraordinary naturalistic richness of the heterogeneous territory goes hand in hand with the mythical and mysterious character of a land rich in history and culture: from the call of the nymph Leucosia to the beaches where Palinuro left Aeneas, from the ruins of the Greek colonies of Elea and Paestum to the wonderful Certosa of Padula and to the long sandy beaches of Villammare. And everything else you can find in such an unexplored territory.

Cilento is a land rich in agricultural and craftsmanship traditions. The agricultural activities are still carried out with traditional and non-intensive methods and give birth to quality products which are characteristic of the famous "Mediterranean diet". The intense craftsmanship activity creates products of great beauty and extraordinary skill.

Villammare

Villammare is an ancient fishing village at the foot of the extensive Cilento National Park. The National Park is UNESCO heritage and takes in one of the most attractive strip of the Tyrrhenian coast swathed by the vivid colours of the Mediterranean flora. Long sandy beaches, a colourful seafront fringed with palms and eucalyptus trees, small restaurants, cosy venues and cottages make of Villammare the perfect seaside resort for travellers from all over the world, in search of friendly and charming spots off the beaten track.

Breathtaking views from the hills covered with centuries-old cork oaks, trekking the mountains and cruising along the Cilento coast, mouth-watering regional cuisine and the special friendliness of the locals captivate visitors all year round.

A spotless and peaceful villa, overlooking the Bay of Policastro, near to two towns Villamare, a gem, and Sapri, which has wonderful food shops (fishmongers , old market, fresh pasta shop etc ) We had it all to ourselves but it would suit a family group staying in the different and well decorated appartments. Anna, the housekeeper, helped us with anything we wanted and the owners were very hospitable.
