“Ideal location for families”
The key was available so we were able to get straight into the apartment. Mrs McWilliams was very friendly and helpful. The apartment is very spacious. It has lovely views over the gardens, and the swimming pool was nice and warm. The snooker table was a great asset, especially when it rained, as was the swimming pool. The dining room had a Spanish feel to it with beautiful floor tiling. It is at the top of a hill, but not far from Swanage town with its shops, restaurants, tourist information office and beaches. Slight problem was no bathroom cabinets or shelves, so difficulty with toiletries. The lounge is long and narrow, and would be a problem TV watching for a family. What we most disliked was the approach road which is full of potholes that cannot be missed! Thankfully this was quite short.
“Excellent facilities and value for money!”
We recently spent a week in this apartment, it was great value for money and the facilities were excellent! My daughter learnt to swim in the pool within two days of being there and my son learnt to snorkel. The couple were very friendly and even left milk for us to start the holiday. We went on long walks, which the children loved, through fields with plenty of wildlife which are just at the back of the house. The pool, sauna facilities are excellent and it was great just to lounge around the pool during the evening and the children did not ever want to get out! The grandparents loved it too, just spending quality time together in lovely surroundings was great. I would definitely reccomend this to our friends.
“Had potential, but very disappointing, definitely not good value for money.”
We are writing this because if we had had the opportunity to read this before booking, we wouldn’t have! We have tried to keep it short – believe me, the first version being more like an essay! We try to have two holidays a year, and having holidayed in a lovely welcoming place in Suffolk several times we were hoping to find another suitable place (indoor heated pool a must) in a different area i.e. Dorset, so that we had a second place to return to. Unfortunately, due to the reception of the owners and the pool being uninvitingly cold, sadly this establishment was a complete disappointment. Firstly, the owners gave the impression that they thought we were holidaying above our means with the odd comments they made toward us. Then when being shown around the accommodation – it was like following a whirlwind – she didn’t seem to care that my partner walked slowly with a stick. POOL: Being a ‘heated’ pool (main reason we go on these holidays) we asked if they could turn the heat up as it was far too cold to get in let alone enjoy. After a lengthy lecture on how the pool was maintained and how much better their pool was compared to public swimming baths etc, he agreed to turn up the heat. However, whether they changed their minds, after a day or two the temperature was lower than when we first arrived. We asked again, but they ignored us. I couldn’t even get in – so it was a complete waste and very disappointing. And considering he went on about how well he maintained his pool, it was amazing just how many bugs were living at the bottom – perhaps it was warmer down there in amongst the algae. POOL ROOM: Beware quite a few of the paving slabs are loose in the pool room – but if you get it right and get into a good rhythm you can create a decent tune. REMOTE CONTROLS: both TV & Digibox remotes were clearly not in good condition and so temperamental that it was quicker to get up and change channel manually! DOORS/WINDOWS: Not all windows actually closed – so somewhat cold during the night. There were nice French doors in the lounge but they didn’t open. There were two sliding doors in the pool room but they didn’t open either. SHOWER ROOM (in the pool room): the shower head was held in-place by a jubilee clip (and is very high up), which means you cannot adjust it at all. INFO PACK: We had to ask where it was for a start, but then discovered that unless you wanted to know what amenities where being provided a few years earlier, it was a little misleading. For example, it referred to the tennis court – which was no longer there; tells you, you have two car-park spaces – but you only get a small one; and it asks you to complete a visitors comments form but there aren’t any (no visitors book either). GARDEN: 2 out of 4 garden chairs were broken – I didn’t know this until I hit the deck! However, Swanage we thoroughly enjoyed and would certainly recommend Dorset – it really is absolutely beautiful.
As owners of Purbeck Cliffs Apartment we welcome comments and suggestions and have run the apartment very successfully for over 20 years. Each year we are visited by an independent Quality Assurance Assessor recognised by the Tourist Board to check the Apartment and we have consistently maintained our four star rating. We were sorry this contributor did not enjoy her holiday, despite the beautiful weather they experienced. The comments about the pool were particularly unfair; the pool is kept heated to 81 degrees and above. It is checked at least twice a week and there is certainly no algae growing in it. It is unrealistic to promise to keep the pool totally insect free but we are always happy to give the pool an extra clean if requested. Each year we redecorate and renew equipment and as part of this ongoing programme items such as the garden seats would clearly have been replaced, had this or some of the other points raised been brought to our attention at the time these would have been dealt with. Purbeck Cliffs Apartment with its own private swimming pool and 2 acre garden presents outstanding value for money and compares very favourably with similar types of holiday where the swimming pool, sauna and snooker room are shared with other guests.
