Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

WHERE WE ARE Woodland and olive-groves surround the hamlet of Iano in this quiet and unsung corner of Tuscany. The location is ideal for those who enjoy the open air walking, with footpaths that start from the property. For those who would like an Eco-Turism vacation we have pheasants, cocoo, porcupine, hedge-hoges and wild boar that roam in our property from time to time we also see a tortoise. Late October and November we harvest the olives and invite our guests to participate in what is a working feast! Picking olives, and enjoying great food and wine! Podere Le Monache is situated in the area known as the heart of Tuscany, and is within easy reach (less than a one-hour's drive) of Florence, Siena, and Pisa. It's also close to San Gimignano and Volterra. Castelfalfi, once the summer residence of the Medici family, is a five minutes drive from Le Monache, it offers an international standard 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, stables, large-game-hunting and fishing reserve.History: Iano dates back to 1004, Le Monache a convent was built during this period. Le Monache (the Nuns) would have been an order of Dominican Nuns or Poor Clares who worked and lived a life of seclution and silence in a Quiet Place. Over the centuries it passed into the hands of the locals who made their own imprint on the building and continued to farm the land. World War II also left its mark Le Monache with its underground tunnels became the hiding place for the Resistance.Today the old road now paved which connects us to Volterrra still runs through the hamlet.

San Gimignano

Places to see:The historical Cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa are 1 hour from the house, San Gimignano the medieval town of the Beautiful Towers is 20 minutes from us, Volterra once the Etruscan capital of Tuscany is 30 minutes, Vinci the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci is 40 Minutes (World famous Museum dedicated to Leonardo), Montelupo with its famous terracotta is also 40 minutes. Colleoli where the story of Pinocchio originated and has a beautiful park dedicated to children is 1.5 hours from us. Puccini's Villa situated at Torre del Lago where the famous Puccinis festival is held every summer is also 1.5 hours from us. We are situated in cultural and historical heart of Tuscany.
