Description

Spiti Stelios Traditional Restored Artisan House (sleeps 6 in 4 bedrooms)

Situated in the trendy mediaeval hilltop village of Pyrgos. Spiti Stelios originally served as an old artisan house and winery dating back to the early 18th century. This traditional building with beautiful caldera and island views, has been restored and converted into a simple and friendly family holiday home. Teams of local artisans have used traditional crafts, techniques and materials to create this comfortable Santorini 4 bedroom dwelling.

Approached via a footpath which has breathtaking views across the island and the Aegean beyond, the entrance to the property is into a large cobblestoned courtyard with outdoor dining area and barbecue. There is also a roof terrace, ideal for sitting with a glass of local wine and enjoying the spectacular sunsets (which are almost guaranteed on this island). On a clear day it is possible to make out as many as 7 different islands in the distance.

Spiti Stelios Traditional Restored Artisan House (sleeps 6 in 4 bedrooms)

This traditional building with beautiful caldera and island views, has been restored and converted into a simple and friendly family holiday home.

Inside, the living room features two traditional Santorini couches, scattered with cushions and an alcove which serves as a snug (used to be a tread for the white grapes). The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances. Adjacent to the kitchen is one of the single bedrooms. An arched passage leads to the other 2 bedrooms and bathroom with its loo with a view. The master bedroom is light and airy, with caldera views and double doors opening onto a second enclosed courtyard. Adjacent to the master bedroom is the other single bedroom. In total there are one master bedroom and two single bedrooms on this level.

In addition there is a cool double bedroom downstairs with en-suite wet room. This benefits from having its own independent entrance from the second enclosed courtyard (which also has an outdoor shower). This double en-suite yposkafo is carved out of the rock in typical Santorinian style and served as the workshop where cheese and other artisan products were made in years gone by.

The beautiful sugar-cube village of Pyrgos is one of the prettiest places on the island, built around the remains of the mediaeval castle, in a charming mixture of winding lanes and white-washed churches with distinctive blue domes. Pyrgos is centrally located with access to multiple beaches.

Beaches

There are at least 2 beaches which are only 15 min drive from Pyrgos (1. Kamari and 2. Vlychada). In addition, Perissa and Perivolos beaches are a 20 min drive from Pyrgos. While public transport is available from the village square, renting a car is strongly recommended.

On the other side of the island there are several beaches most notably Vourvoulos, Baxedes, Pori and Cape Columbo. Cape Columbo is somewhat secluded and a perfect location if you are looking for peace and quiet. It is reputed to 'sit' on a series of mini volcanic craters deep under the sea bed and the far end of this beach is a naturist/nudist beach.

Walks

You can walk along the cliffs from Fira to Oia, about 11 km. Start out in the morning when it's cool and be sure to take along plenty of water, a snack, sun cream, sunglasses and a hat!

There is a hiking trail between Perissa Beach and Kamari Beach that passes by the archaeological site of Ancient Thira at the summit of the mountain. The Perissa side is a dirt trail. The Kamari side is a paved road with steep switchbacks. Not counting the time you spend exploring Ancient Thira, the hike will take you about 2 hours.

Restaurants

In the village, there are several local restaurants and tavernas, all within a short (7 min) walk from Spiti Stelios. We are also conveniently situated near two of the best restaurants the island has to offer: Selene restaurant and Metaxi Mas taverna, both a mere 15 min walk from the house.

“Perfecto!”

Great location, great house, great holiday! Spiti Stelios is a fantastic place to stay, far enough away from the madding crowds but close enough to savour the authentic essence of Santorini.

Owner's reply: Thank you Brian for your kind words. We are pleased to receive your review and read that you had a great stay. It is great to see that you appreciated the location away from the 'madding' crowds yet close enough to the 'authentic essence'. This is really what Spiti Stelios is all about!.... We look forward to having you back with us someday soon.

“A superb villa in a wonderful location with breathtaking views”

Reviewed 28 Sep 2013

A beautifully fitted out traditional villa with wonderful panoramic views across the island and the sea. Sunsets to die for! Comfortable, cool and spacious. Would highly recommend. Well located in this very pretty village with tavernas, shops and a bakery for every day needs .

Owner's reply: Thank you for your review S**, we are really pleased you had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. We look forward to welcoming you back again one day soon!

“Amazing villa - just want to go back every year”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2013

The villa is beautiful, very clean, wonderfully designed and really stylish. It feels like home from home. There is great outdoor space with a roof terrace which offer panoramic views of the whole island. This a perfect spot to watch the beautiful sunsets. There is a great big terrace which is perfect for breakfasts / dinners and bbqs. Location is not overlooked and right by a small path where the donkeys go up and down on a daily basis. It is wonderfully quiet and a real place to unwind on holiday. Rooms and bathrooms are very spacious and decorated to a 5* standard. Kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could need. All in all I cant recommend this villa enough and would choose to return here year on year.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words L****, glad you enjoyed your holiday and we look forward to welcoming you here again soon :-)
