The chalets are very near the boats, and supply added comfort for your stay on the boats with larger toilets and kitchen.

The climate is pleasant From April to October

The scenery is breath-taking, spectacular really - no wonder it's a World Heritage site!

Our Marina is a lovely little spot on the river, perfect for people that appreciate nature and outdoor activities.

Nearby there are charming little family-run restaurants where you can have superb meals at very reasonable prices.

At the marina our guests also can find: small sail boats, kayaks, bicycles, barbecue, even a swimming pool.

Give it a go. It's great fun, great value for money and thoroughly enjoyable!

Northern Portugal region

The Northern region has some of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal. Amidst vineyards, orchards and rich historical heritage stand little hamlets and villages of granite and whitewashed houses. Lovely lagoons, Trout Rivers and steep mountain slopes create a panorama of unsurpassed beauty.

Porto

The Port vineyards cover approximately 250,000 hectares, of which 40,000 are under vine. They are planted along the steep, spectacular hills overlooking the River Douro and its tributaries. Generations of men and women have toiled tirelessly to build terraces into the rock face (an essential element for supporting the vines on these slopes) that have created an impressive landscape of unequaled beauty where hot summers are followed by warm autumns, wet winters and beautiful springs.

It is the region’s characteristic poor soil and uncompromising Mediterranean-like climate which produces one of the most sought after wines in the world, Port.

You can explore it on our boats and stop where ever you like, take tours by train along the valley, walk in the vineyards, visit farms and small towns or simply swim in the warm clear waters of the river.

“A fabulous experience”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2015

Seldom do holidays exceed all expectations, but in the case of Dourovou we could not have had a better experience. The Douro is a perfect place to visit for a short sailing holiday, with an almost guaranteed breeze every afternoon and some mornings. The equipment and boats at Dourovou were in perfect condition and beautifully maintained. Jose was a perfect host and skipper, considerate of our desire to learn about sailing and a mine of information on the history of the river. I can't think of a better and more relaxing holiday. It was surprisingly easy to drive to Ferradosa, though the train from Porto is an easy option. The countryside is beautiful, the whole river amazingly calm, quiet and unspoilt and the wines glorious. Do ask Jose for directions to the local restaurants, all of which offer outstanding value and quality. Thank you for a great holiday and visit.

For me, it was one of the most enjoyable cruises I ever done... It was big fun... in good company!!!

“magical spot”

Reviewed 19 Jul 2015

We woke up in the morning and could only listen to the birds! The view of the river and its valleys was spectacular. Jose was very kind, the boatrip he arranged was magical and we enjoyed it a lot! Thank you Jose!

“Adventure and tranquility”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2012

If you like adventure and something more rural and 'off the beaten track', I would highly recommend a holiday with Dourovou. We chose the yacht charter for 6 nights (11th June 2012). The journey to the destination/ yacht pick up (near Ferradosa train station), is a metro trip from airport to train station (45 minutes), followed by a train ride (2 and a half hours) to Ferradosa train station - the train journey is very, very cheap and amazing in itself winding its way round the Douro. On arrival we were looked after by Jose; had a comfortable night in one of his chalets, meal and lift to the supermarket to pick up supplies for week ahead, then shown how to use the boat and we were away. Jose also gave us a itinerary which we found useful to follow and made sure we had lock times etc. There are many places to moor, a fair few restaurants although take enough food to have evening meals and lunches. The walk on the old railway line in Barca d'Alva is amazing. The restaurants are very cheap - less than 20 Euros for 2 people with 2 courses, bread and lots of wine. The best thing about this holiday was the tranquillity, the culture and beautiful scenery… and of course it was good fun being on a boat all week!

“Sailing Douro river”

Reviewed 31 May 2012

Charting a 26 MacGregor for a week or more is the best way to visit Douro river by your own . The boats are easy to sail and very confortable . Mr. Alberto gave us a river map and sujested places for having excelent meals at nice and cheap restaurants and also to stay at night . The landscape is overwhelming . It was a diferent week vacation and unforgetable for life . I pretend to return in some September to see the mountains red colored .

Hi Joao Great Pics!!! Thanks Jose
