The Cyclades region
The villa is situated in the northernmost part of the island of Paros, a 20 minute drive from the port of Paroikia. It has direct access
to a beautiful sandy beach and enjoys magnificent views to the bay and village of Naoussa, which is only 7 km away. It is also at a
10 minute walking distance from the popular beaches of Monastiri and Kolympithres.
You can see Monastiri from the double bedroom's windows. It is an organised sandy beach, ideal for families with small children.
The sea has shallow waters and is always sheltered from wind. There is a beach bar, water sports, an open air theater for music
concerts, a cinema and extensive walking paths, one of them leading to the lighthouse.
The Monastery of Agios Ioannis itself is old, small, a marvel of local traditional architecture. Its courtyard is just above the sea and
offers a beautiful view. I recommend you to go there just before sunset. On Saturday evenings there are usually weddings.
On August 28th there is a celebration with free local alcohol, folk dancing and music all night long. You are encouraged to
bring a picnic.
Kolympithres is in the opposite direction. Taverna " ????? " serves fresh fish, locally produced meat and vegetables and the
traditional soft white cheese, " xinomizithra ", usually served with " xoriatiki "salad.
Just across the taverna, a short path leads to the beach, famous for its unusual rock formations.
At about 5 minute drive to the south, is Naoussa Camping with a mini market offering fresh cheese pies among other things in the
Naoussa is a picturesque fishing village, the centre of the area, very lively in the evening with many shops, restaurants, bars and
night clubs. The tiny fishing boat harbour is an absolute must. Walk the narrow streets and stop for sweet " loukoumades " with, or
without ice-cream in a small pastry shop, easily spotted thanks to the queue outside.
My favorite Souvlaki is Franc's, in Naoussa's main square.
In the open area close to the church is a small folkloric museum, a doctor's practice open only in the morning and a paediatrician's
Before entering Naoussa and exciting Naoussa there are two super markets, Carrefour Μarinopoulos and AB.
Leaving Naoussa, heading east, if you follow the signs you'll find Ampelas fishing village. The owners of " Christianna "
taverna there, have their own fishing boat.
Lefkes village, further along, is the island's most beautiful mountain village. Visit sometime after 6 o'clock, walk through its beautiful
narrow streets, have coffee, dine at " Klarinos " if you wish for a variety of greek dishes, or at " Agnanti " if you prefer traditional
greek meat on a spit
On the road leading from Lefkes to Paroikia, you'll see some flags on your left hand. Go up the hill and you'll
arrive at Yria, an unusual ceramic studio in an excellent location.
Paroikia, Paros' port, has beautiful, picturesque streets, flooded with tourists having breakfast. " Ragousis "
bakery offers a big variety of sweet and savoury delicacies.
Ekatontapyliani, a magnifiscent byzantine church dominates Paroikia. You can have a guided tour there in English.
Close to Ekatontapyliani is the Medical Centre.

"Large rustic house on the beach with lots of privacy"
We loved this house! We thought it was an excellent value for the money. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, 2 balconies on the second floor, a very large patio around most of the house on the ground level, a kitchen, a dining room, and a living area. However, other than sleeping, we spent most of our time outside at the beach (only 100 meters from the house), or outside on the patios or balconies. The house does not have air conditioning, but since the house has thick walls of stone, it stayed cool enough for us during the day. We got to pick and eat mulberries from the tree just outside of the house, and the bushes along the driveway were still in bloom and were beautiful. There is a lovely sitting area just outside the front door shaded by a very large hibiscus plant. The house is rustic (lizards in the garden along the rock walls), but very clean and comfortable. The house is also very private, as there are no close neighbors. You also have a beautiful view across the bay to the town of Noussa, which is a short drive for a meal or for groceries. The only surprise we had had nothing to do with the property. It turned out that while we were staying at the house, everyone else that showed up to use the beach in front of the house wanted to sunbath in the nude. I've had skin cancer, so nude sunbathing is not for me. We didn't care, but it did add an interesting element to our time at the beach. And since you can't see the people on the beach from the house's patios or balconies, the house felt very private. Olga and Alexandra had a bottle of wine, some sesame candy, and plenty of bottled water waiting for us when we arrived, which we really appreciated. I also had some problems with my payment going through, and Olga was very kind and patient about it.
